When a friend who grew up in the Detroit area and was visiting and asked about having lunch in Greektown, we ended up eating at The Golden Fleece, one of only two traditional Greek restaurants left. The restaurant underwent a renovation in the past few...years, and with its tin ceiling, its old-timey feel is appealing. We were greeted enthusiastically and seated quickly. Water and menus were provided. We ordered the Saganaki appetizer. Opa! Tasty as always. For my lunch, I ordered the Spanakopita (Spinach Pie). My friend ordered the Gyro platter. The Spinach Pie was decent, but definitely far from the best I've had in other Greek restaurants. The Gyro platter was generous, with lots of delicious traditional gyro meat, satziki sauce, tomatoes and onions, plus the sandwich wraps, and a heaping pile of tasty french fries. We would give them another try!More

July 4, 2022 We wanted to order online for pick up but the system for doing so was not working. So we stopped by and were glad they were opened on a holiday. We waited about 20 minutes for our order to be freshly prepared...and packaged to go. The gyro platters for $16 each included delicious gyro meet not overcooked but with a grilled sear to it, side of tzatziki sauce, several large slices of tomatoes and sweet white onions, fries that were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, a large warm fluffy pita bread with a grilled toasty warmth. We ordered an extra side dip of hummus (3 dips for $17) that came with more pita bread. Total for our family of four $90 with tax and without tip added yet. TripAdvisor has thia restaurant as $ but can also be $$-$$$ so see menu prices. For the price of $17 the plates had a large quanity of food. We ordered four plates and 3 extra dips with pita bread for my family of four and ended up with an complete platter leftover for later. The atmosphere inside was updated for being one of the oldest restaurants in Detroit. Greektown was a unique experience for our trip through Detroit. I would visit this restaurant again but order one less platter for a more economical experience but still a very filling meal for our family of four this trip. Not sure how the longterm parking is there and for families with young children or conservative especially later at night this might not be the appropriate area.More

I have been eating here for over 15 years and the food and service are always excellent. That’s way I was so sad with my visit yesterday. The remodel is beautiful. The food was the worst I have ever had there. The lamb tasted bland...and the fires were cold. They seemed to have been sitting. The chicken lemon and rice soup was not even the same and wasn’t that great. I am disappointed with the food. I know places need to make a changes after the pandemic, to raise prices to pay staff but these changes are fails. If the food was the old quality I would say it was 100% worth the price, but with what I ate absolutely not. Also there is a new 20% gratuity, which was ok because the service was good. Overall am going to be looking to replace this old favorite with something new.More

I’ve been going to the Golden fleece for Saganacki, Gyros and Shish kebab for 20+years. It was the main reason I went to Greek town, I assume there’s new owners because of the latest remodel and the food has gone way downhill. My Gyro platter...looked good BUT the meat had no spices and tasted like plan hamburger. After my visit there yesterday (2-6-22) I probably will never go back. I would not recommend eating here if you’re craving real Greek food and They added a mandatory gratuity to your bill even for just three peopleMore

Food is delicious. Atmosphere is great. Service is good. The outdoor dining option is lovely on a sunny day. Try the lemon roasted potatoes!!!

We’ve been coming here for over forty years. It’s kinda fast food Greek. The new remodel is nice but putting an automatic 28% tip not good. Recommend saganacki (flaming cheese) and gyros, with beers around $57 Food and service was good. BS was automatic 28%...tip on bill.More

My girlfriend and I stopped in Greektown for a day. We figured we would eat Greek. This place was recommended by a man we met on the street. He said it was one of the best. We ordered the flamming cheese appetizer. It was really...good. My lamb kebab meal was tender and flavorful. My girlfriend however, did not enjoy her gyro. She claimed it tasted funny and it ended up not agreeing with her stomach. Not sure what the issue was. I hate that I had one experience and she had another. She did at least enjoy the appetizer as well. I would return, not certain my girlfriend would be in agreement.More

Went to this unassuming place for dinner on a Friday night and were immediately seated. The spits of meat were turning up and they smelled great. Service was very friendly and helpful all evening. We split some flaming cheese, Greek soup and a gyro plate....Everything was delicious and the portions are large. Their bread is great. Prices very reasonable. You will walk out happy after visiting this place.More

The Golden Fleece Restaurant is a must if you love Greek food! The place is kinda small, and sometimes you have to wait for a table, not long, but the food is worth the wait. You have to order the OPA, flaming cheese, of course, but my...favorite is chicken souvlaki, double, and chicken lemon soup.Wonderful staff, and if you are lucky enought to have comps from Greektown casino you can use them there.More

I went in the yesterday to ask how long the wait was & the man standing up front said 15-20 minutes. I said ok & he asked how many in my party, I said 6 & than he asked for my name & told him...My name. I went out to call the rest of my party to come in a min later. I went back in there was a different man upfront with a paper & pen & he asked how many & I said 6 but I told the other man & gave him my name. He wrote my name on the list bc the other man didn’t & he gave me a beeper & said go upstairs & wait. 40 minutes went by & nothing, I asked him & he said I know I know 6. 20 minutes later & still nothing & by then we were all very upset 😡 & decided to leave. I gave him my beeper & said buy with a disappointed look. But he didn’t care did not apologize . He was very rude, disrespectful.More

We went to Golden Fleece after the football game. Extremely busy, the servers were working very hard to deal with the over flow crowd. I thought they did a good job. The lamb chops were delicious but the steak was over cooked.

Unfortunately it sounds like we got the server as previously mentioned in another review. So right off bat we were turned off. Ordered a drink and left.

I would give this restaurant 0 stars if I could based mostly on the rude server. We ordered beers and the server brought us the wrong ones because they were out of what we asked for. She was annoyed when we asked for a different...beer option than the one that she chose to substitute without asking us. Then we asked a couple of simple of questions about the menu and she was very condescending because we didn’t know what one of the dishes was. The food arrived after a long wait and was just okay. Not terrible, but not good either. Our server rolled her eyes at me when I politely asked for a refill on my water. We waited 15 minutes for the check and then when she finally returned with our receipts she hovered over us/pushed us out of the restaurant as fast as she could. The other waitstaff seemed to be more pleasant so maybe we just got very unlucky but she was extremely unprofessional and it ruined our dinner.More

We had to wait to be seated since it was very busy. They had a craft beer and standard beer on tap, we had one of each and found them to be good. Service was very good and pleasant as well as speedy once we...ordered. We had gyros, souvlaki and greek salad as our meals. All was good but not very authentically greek unfortunately. Can't complain, just more of a greek-american fusion than authentic greek. Probably geared more to the local market. That said would definitely return to the area again after years of staying away. Seems a bit safer again.More
