After a week of rain and sniffles, we were ready to enjoy adult ambiance! Thoroughly enjoyed the mellow sounds with a close up seat to the stage. The drinks and food was on point. A great choice to get the weekend party started!

This is a very small place. We arrived at 6:30 and the show started at 8. Parking was $5 at the flat lot next to the club and then they charged $15 ea. to get in! I think that was a lot since we were...ordering food/drinks as well. There were only 2 waiters so it took a very long time to get drinks and dinner. Food was great! All on all it is a fun place but make a reservation. As we left around 9 the line was out the door.More

While visiting Detroit last weekend, my sister and I met two older ladies in a restaurant while eating breakfast. They were seated besides us and we began talking. As Detroit natives, they have us a few pointers and told us a lot about the city’s...rich history. We already had our itinerary planned for the entire trip, but we thought it was worth trying out Baker’s after hearing about the tasty menu items and live jazz music. So a with a few adjustments, we were about to eat dinner at Baker’s on a Sunday night. Though the restaurant was packed, we were seated rather quickly. The first table’s hanging light’s bulb was blown and there was no replacement, so we asked to move and our waiter, Darion (sp), obliged. He was very busy, but he did do his best to ensure that we were taken care of. Another employee who worked there asked if we were ok a time or two also. The music was AMAZING, and it’s almost as if we time traveled to an era where jazz was king. Each instrumentalist (trumpet, saxophone, bass guitar, drums, keyboard) had a solo opportunity to showcase his talent, and there was a talented female vocalist. There was no cover charge either! Now, the food was just plain GOOD! I ordered the whiting (4 pieces), mac-n-cheese, and collards. All of the dishes were seasoned just right. The fish was fried perfectly. The meal came with a corn muffin. My sister ordered the same thing I ordered except for the Mac-n-cheese. Instead she ordered black-eyed peas and rice which she said were good too. I would return for the music alone, but the soul food and atmosphere are added bonuses. I wanted to try dessert; I was stuffed though. I’d definitely return!!More

The food was wonderful!! The service was horrible! The happy hour musical entertainment was truly inspiring. I am from Louisiana so I know was REAL jazz sounds like, the musician and voicalist along with the wonderful food saved the entire experience! The wait staff was...rude, thoughtless, and sacrificed one group of customers reservation ( which btw was made one month in advance) for another's. Our friends at Big Blue will get the word out on this place. Ridiculous.More

Loved the food, the jazz, the service and the atmosphere! Server Shonnel and the busser (forgot his name) were very busy but still on top of everyone’s needs. Catfish, baked herb chicken and short ribs were excellent, as were sides of yams, black eyed peas,...collared greens and dinner also came with tasty corn bread. Cover was $15/head plus $5 parking and entrees about $15-20. Good size portions so too full for dessertMore

What a great place to have lunch on a weekday in Detroit. The young woman singing was accompanied by seasoned Detroit jazz artists. The place was packed. No cover charge. Workers in uniform, retirees, couples, made it a diverse and welcoming atmosphere so fitting for...Dtroit and its rich history of great music as a community tradition. I had fish. Delicious and generous portion. Two friends had the chicken livers. They enjoyed them very much. Can't wait to get back next spring. Planning on late April, early May when winter in Detroit might be over ;o)More

This place is a must dine spot! Even if you don't like the music, you will love the food. This is an awesome date spot. I used to live right down the street from there and never got tired of this place. It is a...small venue and one wonders if they expanded, would they lose something. I am very picky about my chicken and pork chops, they never disappoint. That being said, if you haven't been, get there!!!More

Good ribs and drinks, cool decoration from the 80s, the loveliest waitress and great live music. We went in a Thursday so it was cheaper and less crowded. Can't wait to come back soon!

How can you not give Baker's a 5 star? Yes the decor hasn't been updated since I first went there in 1990, but you wouldn't want anyone to ever remove the awesome keyboard bar and it's well lived because it always rocks awesome jazz music....It's a piece of history here. Food is all great soul food, so you can come hungry too! Eat up while enjoying live music in an intimate setting. It'll make you happy!More

Every jazz legend has played here, and you feel the history in this place. The soul food is delicious and portions are large. The mixed drinks are strong so you only need 1 or 2 to last all night. This place is small and intimate...and the musical acts put on a great show.More
