Stopped in with 4 of my friends to watch the championship NFL football game. Had a blast. The Anchor Bar had more TVs in there then I could count. Our group loved that they even played the game overhead so we could hear play by play.
While watching the game we enjoyed their garbage can nachos. They were finger licking good! We also shared the crispy Brussels which were the best I have ever had.
They had a great selection of beers on draft along with reasonable prices for pitchers of beer to share. Our server was very attentive and had a bubbly personality. Can’t wait to go back for Super Bowl Sunday!

It may look like your average neighborhood bar/restaurant joint, but Anchor Bar is anything but!
I wandered in with two friends on a Friday night, and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and incredible aroma not to mention great signature drinks. The restaurant was filling up quickly (it was almost 7:00 pm) but we managed to snag a table.
We ordered the Big Nosh Totcho’s to share and followed that up with 2 Better Made Burgers.
The Big Nosh Totcho’s were little bombs covered in yummy goodness, and the sauerkraut was robust but not overpowering. When our burgers arrived, our expectations continued to be exceeded.
The burger was juicy, flavorful, and the chips just added the right amount of crispness. The toppings worked together beautifully. By the end of the meal we were planning our next visit.
Exceptional food, great staff and very affordable what more could you ask for?

We recently came here for some afternoon beers and lunch, and we enjoyed the local feel to this bar. It is clear that this place is a favorite with the neighborhood and isn't trying to fit in with any trend. They have stiff drinks and a small selection of your classic corner pub beers. The smell of food was really good, however when we had our meals we found everything to be over cooked. I can't say you would be surprised, but perhaps it was just the day. Their homemade cheese sauce was really good and I should have gotten more of that. If you want a mid day drink or to catch sport game, this is a nice local no frills place that I would recommend.

Stopped in the Anchor Bar before the Red Wings game with a group of my friends. The staff was very attentive. The server mentioned to try the wings because of the 7 new sauces they offer. The Faygo BBQ Rock & Rye was my FAVORITE. Before we left we seen they had games in the front. So we decided how fun would it be to play a quick game of Jenga like the good old days. Perfect place to bring friends and family. Can’t wait to go back!

Visited Anchor Bar while I was in Detroit this past weekend. Wow, what a fun place. Popped in for a quick bite with friends and ended up staying for hours. Played games and spun the wheel of fun, got a discount on my food! Not your average bar in Detroit. Food is creative and upscale but still comfort food.

I bout a $16 meal carry out Nov 7, 2023. My debit card was shortly thereafter hit with 3 fraudulent charges totalling $192. These people are thieves!!!

Great, newly remodeled “hole in the wall”. Excellent burgers and friendly service! Makeda was fantastic!! Restaurant is clean and right on the “People Mover” track (Fort-Cass Station).

First time at the Anchor since the Owners/Management. They removed booths for tables and basically took away any privacy. There was maybe 2 foot of space between tables. Sat at bar as it was better than setting at table. Had the grilled cheese with beef bacon. Plenty of bacon but so tough and fatty that wasn't worth the effort. Why beef bacon? Left a greasy unpleasant coating on roof of mouth after meal. Service was great and efficient. Maybe if visit next time will choose other options for lunch. Asked for no chips with meal as I don't eat them but received them anyway.

Had only an hour for lunch and popped into the Anchor Bar for a quick bite. Staff was very friendly and the food was excellent. The menu is somewhat limited but the burgers were great. You can also get various sandwiches, salads, etc. Basic bar fare. They had a nice selection of local craft beers on tap as well. I can see how spending an evening there watching sports or hanging with friends would be fun.

This bar offers bus rides to the games at the LCA ( not sure if there is a charge)
Ordered some food while I was there got the Lafayette chicken sandwich, chicken strips & tonachoes.

the waitress was quick and prompt with the drinks, however we thought the food would never arrive. This was our third visit , and each was slow on getting our food but this time was beyond terrible.

A few of us stopped in after the boat show. What a great little venue. Looks like there is some construction going on. When we talked with the manager he told us about all the new things happening at the Anchor Bar. Sounds like when it’s all done this could be a happening place. Food was simple but very good. Enjoy watching the chefs cook in front of us. Drinks were good and at a reasonable price for downtown. We will for sure be back

SHAME ON NEW MANAGEMENT!! We were here after the Detroit Free Press Marathon. Everyone INCLUDING marathoners had to pay a $5 cover at 11am. COMPLETE cash grab. Runners should have been FREE!! Then the manager made the decision to STOP selling pitchers of beer and customers were forced to buy glasses of beer. The excuse was that it was taking too long to fill the pitchers and not enough pitchers available. We offered our pitcher to refill but NOPE couldn't do that. COMPLETE CASH GRAB!! Horrible abuse and gouging. SHAME ON YOU!! We won't be back during regular hours. The ONLY reason you got 3 stars is the service was AMAZING!

So first understand it is just a dive bar. It is absolutely NOT one of the many gentrified, hipster, too cool for school vibe where folks take their cocktail crafting waaaaay to seriously to be a chill environment. Anchor is a dive bar with decent food. Also, they are not in race to serve you quickly, and because the place smells like a dive bar...it can become annoying. It is a place folks love to go to before and sometimes after Tiger's game - so it can be a very friendly atmsophere. Although I like it more quite honestly when the place when it is less busy - you may have to chase down the barkeep or the cook...they tend to go walkabout. However, I have found that during low customer tide - that's when the bar pours get better and the food and portions are really good. My fave is the Billy Joe Sandwich. It's a $7.00 Sauteed steak on rye bread with Swiss cheese and grilled onions. All food is very reasonably priced and the burgers never fail.
