We had a reservation, two couples, seated right away and Denny the manager came by and introduced himself, took care of everything . Quite busy room, good music, not loud ambient, Food ordered , the manager came by a couple of times and kept us aware of the cooking, served a branzino al sale that was very well prepared . Overall a great food and good evening, we will be back.

There's no sign or address and the neighborhood is sketchy, and we circled around to make sure we had the right place. The valet parking and courtyard in the alley told us that this was the place. The service from Michael and the entire staff was 5-star. The kids and a grandmother from our party went outside and when they weren't back when the entrees were delivered, Michael covered the plates to keep them warm. And the food was delicious. The brag on the menu about the "best lasagna you will ever have" was substantiated.

Returning to Michigan, my husband and I decided to take an alternate route to our hotel due to snowy conditions. Heading north on Woodward Avenue, we remembered a special place to eat. Actually, we had met there 17 years ago & eaten outside on their cozy patio. It was here that our long romance began & continues in our retirement today. After sharing a char charcuterie board, we enjoyed a tableside Caesar salad. Romaine was fresh & our salad was perfectly balanced & finished with freshly ground pepper. Next came 2 bowls of clam linguine. Likewise, pasta was al dente, deliciously seasoned & presented. While we brought our Brunello to dinner, an extensive wine list is available along with premium cocktails. If you want a special Italian Detroit restaurant, this is it!

The patio is the best thing about this restaurant. It is beautiful. The food was just average tasting but the portions were very small. NOTHING comes with the entrees - not even a stale bread stick. Other local Italian restaurants with similar or even lower pricing normally offer either soup or a salad along with the entree as well as bread or bread sticks. The service was poor. There was a long wait for drinks to arrive. No refills of water glasses were offered. Food was slow to arrive. Somehow you got the feeling that you were inconveniencing the staff by being there. The restaurant including the patio were sparsely populated despite being a warm Saturday night which might be reflective of the high prices, low value and poor service. "Valet" parking was $7.

Had a reservation for 6:45 PM. Was seated shortly after 7:00 PM. It was another 10 minutes before a server showed up at our table With water. She asked for drink orders and both of us ordered iced tea. It was at least another 15 minutes before the iced tea arrived. We placed orders for salad and entree, and waited over 40 minutes for that to arrive. Our server never checked on us until she brought the salads. She never checked on whether we needed anything else or wanted refills. I asked for a refill on my iced tea and she said they were out of iced tea so I would have to make do with water. Two iced teas, two entrees, and two salads, came to $110 with tip. There are many other places around with good food and better service for a lot less money. BTW: parking is valet only.

Such a treat to find this Italian restaurant in Detroit. Excellent appetizers - we had the calamari and antipasto platter. Both delicious and great for sharing. I chose the chicken piccata and was not disappointed with the succulent chicken which was served with scalloped potatoes and asparagus in a mouth watering lemony sauce. Beautifully prepared. My companions enjoyed the linguini and clam sauce and the penne Mezzogiorno. La dolce vita has an extensive food and wine menu with something for everyone. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Such an enjoyable evening. Will definitely return!

So sorry to write this but I want to spare others from a bad experience. LDV is under new ownership. All previous staff members are gone, the menu is changed and the decor is changed, not for the better. The lighting is bright, as if in Costco. We ordered calamari and after a period of time we were informed they were “out of it.” Our entrees were inedible - none of us ate. Nothing tasted homemade; I was left with an artificial garlic taste in my mouth that stayed with me for hours even though I only had three bites of my meal. There were only 6 people in the restaurant for most of the evening. No owner in site. The hostess and server were nice, but untrained. I feel sorry for them being put in a position to fail. So sad.

I dined here with my wife and another couple on March 4, 2023 and E-Dede was our server. Full disclosure I have had the pleasure at dining in some of the finest restaurants and hotels so my bar is high. Started with a bunch of apps, prawns, beef tips, antipasto board with cheese & imported Italian meats. Beef tips were under cooked, and the anitpasto board was a disaster. Cheap, thick cut low quality meats. Entrees were (2) lasagna, branzino, and lobster ravioli. All entrees were just meh at best. One piece of the fish entree was good and the other was not fresh. Lasagna was just okay, and lobster ravioli were just okay. Told the waiter about the fish and he said its the same fish and the 2 sides cant be different? I asked him if he cooked it and he said no! I cant recommend this place to anyone. 3 apps, 4 entrees, 6 glasses of wine and 2 deserts and our bill was $299.37 with tip. For this kind of $$ I would go else where.

We arrived late on Monday evening and learned restaurant was open for only the second Monday in a row. Service was excellent and food was better. We enjoyed calamari before our entrees. I ordered a seafood dish from the menu and chef made my husband's entree to order. Server was so careful to ensure my glass was clean he thought the ice was something that didn't belong in my water. I discretely inspected glass before he poured water and KNEW floating object was only ice.

Tried to make a reservation but couldn't reach the restaurant or make one online in any of the apps. Finally, when I did get a hold of the restaurant, they told me I can only make a reservation for the inside of the restaurant and not the patio because the patio is first come first serve. This place is known for its patio, the inside looks like a retirement home. I just can't take the risk not knowing If I will be eating at an amazing place or at a retirement home.

My husband and I stopped by for brunch last Saturday and I have to say it was delicious! We had Mimosas and Eggs Benedict (one regular and one with lobster) and both were great! The waiter was very good. Sad to see only a few tables. I know they changed ownership but I think everything was excellent!

Although we had a reservation were asked to wait in the bar while we waited for our table. Despite being the only ones standing in the bar we stood for 40 minutes and were unable to get a drink. I mentioned we were waiting to order and the bartender snapped she was busy. Still without a cocktail the hostess sat us where we waited 25 minutes for the waitress. Finally we ordered a bottle of wine and a beer for the 4 of us. It sat on the bar for 10 minutes before the waitress delivered it. I wrote the restaurant about our horrendous service. He called me but instead of being concerned he argued and told me he wasn’t sure what I was saying was true…..really?

I would have to agree that much has changed. We were not aware that the restaurant was under new ownership, but changes were apparent. We sat at the bar under garish green lighting. My trip to the women’s bathroom sealed the negative impression. It was Monday night, the toilet was plugged and wastebasket overflowing. My husband did have a nice pasta/meatball meal, but only after his first choice of lasagna was not available. I ordered a salad and arancini. The salad was pretty, but lifeless in taste. The arancini (4), were the size of gum balls. Maybe rolled together they would have made two of decent size. Too much to speculate, given they were also cold. It just wasn’t worth the hassle to mention anything, given I was still thinking about the bathroom! Yes, the outdoor space is unrivaled in beauty, but there are just too many other great Italian restaurants in metro Detroit to consider returning to LDV.

If "Hidden Gem" is a way to describe a restaurant that you wouldn't expect, then "Hidden Gem" is how to describe La Dolce Vita in Detroit. It's in an inner-city neighborhood, just off of Woodward Avenue, Detroit's "Main Street" near McNichols Road ("Six MIle Road). The facade is a gray building with the letters "LDV" on the Woodward Side. Turn the corner to Valet Park, and you will immediately see an ivy-covered outdoor patio. (It was too hot for me the two evenings I was there, but there were people dining outdoors.) The menu is a Northern and Southern Italian gem. There's seafood, pastas, appetizers, as well as cocktails and wines. The service is friendly, and the food is really wonderful. The first night, I had scampi that had to be the best scampi I have ever eaten. I was able to substitute a side of pasta marina for mashed potatoes, while my dining companion asked for pasta bolognese. He had the veal piccata. The seafood and veal dishes were both very enjoyable, and wines are available by the glass or bottle. The service was polite, but not intrusive, and the desserts were most enjoyable, as well. The interior decoration with white walls, a semi-visible kitchen, red flowers and several crystal chandeliers is very tasteful and beautiful. My experiences there make me want to return on my next Detroit visit.

To say this place is underwhelming is an overstatement. My first time here was 5 years ago. It was cute, quiet, and delicious. A great date night. Tonight was polar opposite, and then some. Normally we all give grace for a problem or two, and write it off as chance, and focus on the good. But there's not enough good to salvage a good review. Tonight, LDV might try to tell you that our experience tonight was due to a portion of the restaurant being under construction. If that's REALLY the case, give me back my $490 - you should NOT have been open. The number of items that they were out of needed more fingers than 1 hand can count. The "Special" for the evening was just adding 2 prawn to the filet (cooked in the absence of any kind of seasonings), calling that combination surf and turf, and then adding $45 to a $45 plate, just for the new description and 2 prawn. My bad. I've never had a $90 dinner taste as mediocre as that. And as far as I can recall, I've never paid $22.50 each, for 2 prawn. The camel that broke my back tonight was the rear dining room, which has no construction in progress - is an echo chamber. The floors, the walls, even the ceiling's are exactly ideal to pick up every single person's voice and exponentially broadcast, at even louder volumes than they originated. I had schooled my 4 kids (8-17) to be on their best behavior, given a very nice, classy restaurant. In fact, our trip to the circus 2 weeks ago was even louder than this room. I could NOT hear the person next to me, and my head literally RANG. You might mock me with some "get off my lawn" comment - but we are a loud and boisterous family, when it's appropriate. We just wanted a nice plate to eat. That was impossible. My fault for not knowing this wasn't a classy restaurant, but just another loud bar. My bad. The mens bathroom, which has a urinal and sink room, and private room with a toilet, has a door, which locks. But that door not only doesn't lock, but it doesn't latch. So when someone opens the first room, your locked door just pops open several inches. In the spirit of Detroit Grit, the bathroom met those standards. It generally reminded me of the mens bathrooms at old Tiger stadium. The paint job, cleanliness, and so on. If you are going to call yourself "inspired by regional Italian cuisine" as the website purports, maybe don't have your dining room look like a 6th graders cafeteria. I'm not a decorating expert, but if the intended vibe was "1970's government secret research laboratory basement", you've nailed it. Perhaps the cherry on top, or in this case the strawberry that never happened, was when my family of 8 got 4 pieces of cheesecake, but mine (with strawberry) was accidentally swapped with chocolate. In the end, the 4th piece of cheesecake, with chocolate erroneously put on it was the LAST piece of cheesecake in the building (at 7:45pm). He offered then, to bring back the strawberry drizzle, to add on top of the chocolate. Worth a try - he returned with raspberry and described that actually they have no strawberry at all. In the spirit of credit where credit is due, the appetizers were amazing. We got the antipasto italiano with cured meats, artisan cheeses, and more. We also got the portabello, calamari, and the gamberi (shrimp) scampi with garlic, and other amazing flavor. I would 100% get these again (to go).
