We go out to eat once a quarter with two other couples. It was our turn to pick so we picked Giovanni's because I had never been there before. Everything was fabulous, from the service at the bar to the guy refilling water to the waiter. We actually had 2 waiters and we could not have been better served. Everyone's... More

Reach this restaurante is not easy but It makes a lot of sense. After a guy park your car, you enter in a smart and warm atmosphere where the owneress propose to you delicious real italian food. 3rd generación in the kitchen remains sticked to the traditions. A place to go during your stay in Detroit.

Visited here for the first time. Was headed to see Phantom downtown. This place was great! Don't let the location fool you. This place has been here through thick and thin it appears. Very fancy place, professional employees, outstanding food, great ambiance. Prices were moderate. The place is just outside of the refinery area so kind of strange path to... More

I hope last night's dinner here was a fluke. This has been my favorite restaurant in Detroit and it pains me to drop them to 3 stars. My husband and I share a birthday and we decided to spend it at Giovanni's. It's a Friday and the holiday season so we made a reservation. We arrived on time for our... More

Who would have thought you would find an outstanding Italian restaurant in the midst of an industrial section of the city? The food is outstanding and the service exceptional. The staff makes you feel very welcome, almost like you were dining in their home. The owner usually makes the rounds at the tables welcoming you to her restaurant inquiring if... More

When we arrived, we were greeted by the hostess and the owner. Asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. It was our 35th Anniversary. After that point, it seemed that every employee knew. Our waitress, Lisa, was the best. Great recommendations, service, personality. Food was delicious, best calamari I have ever had, homemade pasta! Atmosphere was wonderful. After our... More

I came here at 6:30pm after a day of exploring Downtown Detroit. I made a reservation beforehand as was promptly seated upon arrival. I used valet, which was $5, as the areas is sketchy and since it was going to get dark soon, I wanted to be safe. The bread, which was free, was decent. The house salad was good... More

This gem is located in an almost surreal setting adjacent to a huge Marathon Oil facility. But please don't let that deceive you. Once we stepped inside, I was back in my beloved Italy. From the welcoming hostesses to the outstanding waitpersons (the lovely Dawn and Lori) to the skilled Master Chef Randy Truant, this establishment is clearly the reflection... More

If you love Italian...say no more. This is the place. For as hard as you'll work to find it, the more you'll enjoy your meal. Totally safe area, just off the beaten path. The pictures of the luminaries who have eaten here only add to the charm and ambiance. It is a gem. A total gem. Family-owned and operated. They'll... More

Giovanni's house-made pasta is fabulous. Do not miss the calamari strips or the linguine with white clam sauce - they are worth hiding from anyone you share a table with! Off the beaten path but well, well worth the trip.
