Me and my partner went here for dinner and it was truly an amazing experience. We had an 8pm reservation (I highly recommend a reservation for this restaurant.) Our table wasn't ready yet so the host kindly showed us to their sister bar, which is connected to them called the Dragonfly, so that we could get drinks while we waited. They also have a cute lounge area if you don't want to grab a drink while you wait. Once the table was ready maybe 10 minutes after 8pm, the host came back to get us and sat us at our table. We were offer a complementary choice of sparkling wine or a nonalcoholic option to start our experience which I thought was a very nice touch. We also had two servers who could help us which made our service fast and both were very friendly. After we placed our order for all of our courses, they start you with bread/butter and a salad while you wait for your first course. We picked different things from each course so we could share and try each others dishes. The size of the food starts smaller and gradually gets bigger, the sizes of the dishes are good to make sure you are full but we didn't have any left overs. My favorite dishes were course 1- oysters (I ate one so fast before I remembered to take a picture) and my 4th course which, I picked the Steelhead Trout(Get it! Truly amazing). The price for dinner is always the same $90 for the 5 course meal and you can choose to add either a cocktail or wine pairing at $50 to go with that. We opted to just order drinks off the menu, which we were happy with. Overall Freya was great and worth every penny, but you will be spending at least $100 per person so maybe for more of a special occasion dinner or when you want to really treat yourself and others.

The dinner is a prix fixe. When reservations are made you select either the meat, fish, or vegetarian option, however, it appeared the selection was not important because everyone was offered a choice at each course. There was no menu, rather, the server gave the choices for each course. Service was impeccable, fresh silverware was brought before each course. Serving size was appropriate for each course and everyone in our party felt satisfied and not stuffed after the multicourse feast. Food presentation was as nice as any MIchelin higher rated restaurant. Bar Service was a tad slow, in fact, old first course arrived before our ordered drinks were served - we were given a complimentary aperitif and that almost was enough until our slightly tardy drinks arrived. The restaurant is casual and you should comfortable wearing almost anything reasonable. I saw no men in sport jackets, most were wearing slacks and a nice shirt. Likewise, ladies appeared to be dressed in dressy casual outfit. There is no parking lot and the restaurant doesn't have an easily visible sign. The neighborhood is a tad dodgy and you should not leave valuables in your car. I would highly recommend Freya. It would be appropriate for a comfortable special celebratory dinner.

We had a dinner at Freya in May 2024. Common verdict is "it was a nice experience, but we are not coming again". The restaurant does not have its own parking. Adjacent parking lot belongs to another restaurant. It was a busy evening in that part of Detroit, I circled the area for a few minutes before finding a spot about 300 yards away on an opposite side of Grand Blvd. We got a fixed menu of 5 courses for a price of about 100 dollars each. The menu had some interesting choices, it was not easy to decide what to pick. The food we got was generally very good, presentation was really artistic. Seasoning, freshness - all was great. But my major issue is that I was half hungry when I left and I am a relatively light eater with healthy habits. Polite and friendly waiters were more of curators, and we appreciated the effort to educate us, but sometimes it was just too hard to hear. And on a couple of occasions it took more time to tell us about the course than for us to eat it. The final bill of about 270 dollars included two fixed menus, a glass of wine, a cocktail, gratuity and tax. This is "high end" for Detroit. And while I enjoyed the food and new unusual concepts and combinations, I did not think it was worth that much money. It is good for customers who really appreciate the art of cooking and who can sacrifice portion size for gourmet experience.

A reservation is a must. They precharge you 25$ per person at the time of making the reservation and is applied to the bill. We were first sitting and were sat near the door. Dont let them seat you there on a cold day, door lets the cold air right in to you, all at the table were cold for the entire meal. Food was unique in style, some were great.. some not. The salad was salty, but the other dishes were seasoned well. The waitstaff was fantastic. We had each a drink. The portions were what I expected at this type of place, small. If it wasn't for the delicious bread with salted butter, I would have still been hungry. The bill for a party of 4 was $500, never going there again unless a a guest where someone else pays.

Amazing restaurant that provides amazing an experience. This was my 2nd visit, and all details were perfect for our table of 6. I think between us, we had every item of every course, and all were delicious, seasoned wonderfully and they looked beautiful. We had the wine pairings with each course, and appreciated the non-alcoholic flight for the pregnant lady. The service was again exceptional, with the team providing the proper amount of attention, without hovering. It is a challenge to pick out outstanding items as that was everything, so here are just some items we enjoyed: the breads, scallops, hangar steak that melted in your mouth, oysters that were superb and of course 3 delicious desserts. We highly recommend Freya!

Had a wonderful meal with family at Freya. The five-course fixed price menu allows for plenty of choice within each course, so we were able to try most of the items across the menu. Dishes are well composed, with a nice mix of textures and flavors, though there's a lot going on with some of them. Be warned that some dishes have some spice, so be sure to ask about the heat of the peppers that are liberally used throughout. Given the amount of food, we felt it was good value for such a fine meal. The space is not typical for fine dining - concrete floor, wood tables, and open high ceiling - but that contributed to a more down-to-earth experience. Staff was very friendly, attentive, and well-trained. Wine pairings were unremarkable (next time I'd opt for the premium selection), but cocktails at Dragonfly next door were fun pre-meal. Definitely worth a trip for a high-end, but unstuffy meal in Detroit.

We just had one of the great dining experiences of our lives at Freya. Each of the dishes was amazing but, as always, what made the dinner truly amazing was the HOSPITALITY!!! The hostess, Abigail, was truly exemplary, and our servers were also exceptional. They all made us feel like they were truly happy that we were there, and went out of their way to make sure our experience was next-level. The food was creative and beautiful to look at, but also tasty and satisfying. The venison in particular was outstanding. The next time we are in Detroit, our first stop will be Freya. Thank you Abigail!

This is a great restaurant. The cocktails were terrific, and each of the courses in the tasting menu were pretty spectacular, though not large. Nonetheless, we were full when we were finished and everything was delicious. An added bonus: Service was first rate. I would very happily return.

I am generally not a big fan of fine dining, but Freya was just PERFECT! We had the set dinner with wine pairing and every single dish was delicious and beautifully presented and was the wine. Highly recommend!

The food was amazing! Served at the perfect pace. I did the wine pairing and each wine was spot on with the dish. They also offered a cocktail pairing. An amazing experience.

Freya comes off as being fru-fru in food, in contrast to its very casual setting. The fixed menu ($85) of five courses, including dessert, is limited but interesting. Portions are very small. When I arrived home I was still hungry; I'm not a huge eater. A wine-tasting menu to accompany the five courses is available for an additional $50. We did that, and the wine selections were excellent. Kudos on that! What is most-off putting about the ambiance is the relatively loud music, making conversation difficult. We were a group of six and initially could hardly here each other across the table. Making it worse was the placement of the speaker -- directly above the table and pointed down directly at the table! Makes no sense! Three requests to turn down the music yielded some lowering, but not enough. Finally, a server realized that our individual speaker could be turned completely off, which was a relief to all of us. Freya is run by the same people who have created "Chartreuse", adjacent to the Detroit Institute of Art. Chartreuse was recently a Detroit "Restaurant of the Year"and is truly excellent, one of our Detroit favorites. Frankly, if your time in Detroit is limited and you're looking for an excellent dining experience, choose Chartreuse over Freya. Bottom line, this Freya experience was less than satisfactory; there's no chance we'll return.
