It's a delicious treat worth the trip and off the beaten path. The dishes can be a bit exotic to good old family favorites. I've been twice so far with a social group and plan to take a friend who is a foodie, when she visits next.

This place has a great menu...Italian and Mexican. I had a Mexican dish and my daughter had a pasta dish...both were excellent. Good wine selection as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely be back soon!

Two thumbs up for the alfresco dining and polite service. The menus has both Italian and Mexican fare and is quite large. The consensus among the four diners was that food was average.

One often sees different cuisines combined but in this case they are on separate menu pages as the chef was raised in Mexico and trained in Italy. We were only there one night so didn't get to explore everything. Two of us had the Popian which had the best green mole sauce I've ever had over a perfectly cooked chicken... More

We have been to this restaurant three times. It has the best salsa verde I have ever had, and the mole enchiladas and margaritas are so good, we will probably go back. However, while on our first visit, we only had to look around once and a server would be there to assist; on subsequent visits we had much less... More

We want for a family Friday night dinner at El Barzon. The weather was great; we dined in the covered outdoor area; a beautiful spot. The service by Alex was generally attentive. But the food was outstanding. One of the specials skirt steak melted in you mouth. Some ordered Mexican and some ordered Italian. I think the Italian has the... More

If you're looking for excellent mole and pipian dishes made from scratch, this is the place. It is an elegant oasis in SW Detroit. I love this fact because many restaurants in Mexico are white tablecloth restaurants. We have such a variety in dishes as well as level of restaurants. Too bad that the image of Mexican food in the... More

El Barzon presents itself as a white tablecloth restaurant; a touch that suggested this would be a "fine dining" experience. If only that were so. I wish I could say it was; it wasn't. We had an early dinner here on a beautiful summer Sunday afternoon. We sat outdoors and were very comfortable. The restaurant bills itself as Mexican/Italian with... More

We went to dinner with two other couples and got a nice table outdoors. It was a warm night and very nice to eat outdoors. We had to swat a few flies away, but the setting is really nice. The inside of the restaurant is also very tastefully decorated and is a nice space. The menu is a mix of... More

Although we had thought this restaurant would contain numerous Mexican dishes according to the website and location adjacent to Mexican Town, we felt that more emphasis had been placed on the other menu selections of Italian related food. However, you can find assortment of chicken and fish dishes as well. The menu contains food selections suitable for lunch and dinner... More
