I was smiling from the time I entered the front door till I left. The atmosphere was really nice, I had the curry chicken and it was great to top it off their plantains were like no other I’ve had before. My husband had the...jerk chicken and the flavor was mouth watering of course I had to try his as well and at that moment I knew I would be back. The lighting and cleanliness of the restaurant was great.More

My wife and I went to Norma G's on Jefferson near Chalmers. I wasn’t aware of a sit-down Jamaican restaurant in the city, but there we were. She ordered Oxtail sliders and I had jerk chicken tacos. As a licensed chef, my wife I can’t...help but be curious about any restaurant we go to, and this one was no exception. The food was hot, the service was quick, and the atmosphere was beyond pleasant. The Oxtail sliders had a level of spicy heat that was noticeable, while not too hot for the palate. They were incredibly tender and very tasty. I loves spicy food, which is a good thing because the jerk chicken tacos were quite the fiery bite. We both agreed that the food was delicious. On this night there was live entertainment- a singer named King Mellowman. He sang R & B, Reggae, Calypso, and even pop favorites. He engaged with the audience and had us dancing and enjoying the entire evening. At this time I will be bringing friends to experience this place in the next few weeks.More

I absolutely love coming here whenever I'm in the Detroit area, my family and I have made a tradition of coming here whenever we're all in town for the holidays. The drinks are great (I highly recommend the Sorrel punch!), as well as the veggie...options. The food is flavorful without being too spicy, and the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this spot for a causal family dinner or date!More

We chose this cozy, quaint eatery to celebrate my sister's birthday. Located near the border of Grosse Point City and Detroit's Jefferson Chalmers community, we found the carribean cuisine to be very palatable and the staff extremely personable. Will definitely frequent this restaurant again and...again. Free parking and affordable prices are a plus.More

I've enjoyed Norma G's twice - once to take away (they were far too busy to dine in) and then getting to dine in the 2nd time. The food is comforting - richly spiced and offering traditional dishes to expand the palate. My favorites are...the Vegan Pelau and the Melongene. The Sorrel beverage is delicious - I had to restrain myself from ordering a 3rd. Constructively, the service was not on the same level as the food during my in house visit. Our server rarely smiled and was not available. Also, as the dishes were served in large shallow dishes for presentation, they cooled quickly as a result. Still, I recommed Norma G's and I look forward to their continued success on the Detroit Food scene!More

The food was okay but those jerked chicken wings were far from being jerked and looked very burnt. My chicken pelau was good but cold.

Carribean food at it’s finest, jerk chicken, curried goat & chicken, the vegetables are to die for,why isn’t there a location in downtown Detroit, proven establishment. This place should be a destination stop, just as good,if not better than the current list of continuous listed restaurants Find a spot, the old pizza...place on Broadway that just closed next door to BWW,and give the same support and promotional ads you give to your current downtown placesMore

Interesting menu featuring oxtails, goat and cod fish. There is a vegan menu. I ordered vegetable curry which didn't seem real fresh to me. The drinks are good but pricey. A rum punch was $9.00 and needed more rum for that price. It's new so...I will give it a second chance. Service was great. The tamarind sauce on the side is lovely. The bar was popping at 6:00 pm with a diverse crowd.More

Norma G’s is a great spot for dinner. The menu and specials were very tasty. Jerk chicken was flavorful. Curried goat and curried chicken were perfect as were the cod fish balls. Presentation was upscale. Looking forward to frequenting this unique spot. Full bar with...Caribbean speciality drinks.More

Enjoyed a dinner with friends last weekend at Norma G's and it blew our socks off. Tried the oxtail special and almost licked the plate clean. Thoroughly appreciated the melongene, a flavorful eggplant dish, as well as the chicken pelau. We ordered a side of...the house mac and cheese for the table, and I only got one (yummy) forkful since everyone else dove in quickly. Note to self: order more mac and cheese next time. For dessert, sampled more of their luscious plantains to go with the frozen custard. Our very friendly and helpful server recommended several nicely rounded wine and beers as well as island-inspired cocktails. We kept leaning over to the table next to us to ogle their food as well, gave us some ideas for the next time around (sliders!). And there will be a next time --- looking forward to coming back soon.More

This is a small restaurant serving limited menu with Caribbean food located with easy access to Jefferson ave traffic. It has authentic island menu with curries and biriyani. Service was good and food was plentiful in the main course. The manager stopped by to check...on our us. Even though some of us asked for spicy food, it meals lacked the spicy flavors that we expected. The small containers with various kinds of chutney were tasty.More
