I've driven right past here for YEARS without even a glance. Well, I was hungry and decided to stop in. It's a nice looking bar, with a mix of high and low top tables and booths. The burgers are to die for, and the fries...are amazing as well.More
Clean, pleasant atmosphere, helpful friendly staff. The food is average Coney Island/bar fare. The bar is below average, lacking proper glassware, liquor varieties and bottled beer selection. They do have 40 taps and a great craft/draft selection but lack of proper glassware and warmish beer...detract from what could be a top notch craft beer destination. So if you like average food and warm draft beer, this is the place for you.More
With a phenomenal extensive menu paired with 40 domestic and craft beers you honestly can't go wrong visiting VBT.

Although this is a tavern, it’s worth a visit for lunch! I had the fish and chips, which is hand batter in house. Cole slaw made in house. And priced well ($8). It has an open air modern look. I don’t like loud music, they...were happy to decrease the bass. But this is not a place for a quite meal. Service was great! Quick, helpful and friendly- what more can you ask for.More
Wife and I visited Van Born Grill over the weekend. Yes I was a skeptic because I seen allot of Restaurant Businesses come and go in this location, but it looks like Van Born Grill will be around for a while if they can continue...with and at the same pace.
So this review is a little in Depth but well worth the read. I have the Breakdown Listed below on a scale of 1-6 (6 Being the Best)
Food = 5.0 Very good so far we have eaten here twice in as many days - different food orders and it seems consistent. The Beef Tip Appetizers are a 5+ (The Zip Sauce they come with is about a 2.5)
Service = 4.8 I only rank this a 4.5 because there seemed to be some confusion with orders / waitresses during our two visits - not a show stopper I am sure they are finding a rhythm i am just being honest.
Ambiance = 5.8 Although this restaurant has TVs and a Bar it is nice that the sound is low so you can have a table conversation. I really hope this doesn't change. The restaurant overall has been redesigned - tall tables, booths around the window area and a nice garage door opening to get the breeze moving. I think they did a tremendous job with the redesign nice work
Menu: Your typical Tavern Food - Burgers - Fish - Appetizers - Salads the food is good so no questioning that portion of it.
Dress Code: Casual for sure, then again i guess it doesn't matter if your out having fun
Prices: 5.5 Average prices as anywhere else - same as a Coney or a Rams Horn etc.
Wait Staff / Employees
Our waitress Pauline was good, she had her hands full with allot of tables so not sure she was overwhelmed or new - But overall she did just fine (Nice Work Pauline)
For the Blonde Headed women who was working the bar playing on the phone when your Boss asked you to help the staff on the floor! The last thing you want to say is "What - there is nothing to do, or I am caught up, or They don't need help". Honestly where is the work ethic these days? I can only surmise you know the owner, or some family ties are happening because honestly I never heard someone talk like that and still work. Just my advice, like i say to anyone i meet "your on a job interview everyday of your life" it takes that one person to see your work ethic and BOOM! you landed the perfect job. Again just my advice.
Overall I give Van Born Tavern a 5.5 out of 6 - The place is fairly new so i am giving some room to grow a bit.
Ciao For Now..... SteveMore
It's walkable from my home which is always a bonus. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was nice, predictable fries. Nice food. The moscato was an inexpensive moscato (along the lines of Barefoot or such). Please upgrade this with something nicer.
That being said,...it will be a place that I come to regularly as we do live around the corner. I hope it does great business and thrives!More
