Tasty food, moderately priced, amazing bartender!

I was told when I arrived for my first experience with "The Lakes," that I might want to sit at the bar, since the moderately sized restaurant was packed at 6:45 on a Monday night! I did as I was told, and was happy with the experience. Ordering their fish and chips, I noticed the bartender, Sophia, placing a dish on the bar in front of me, shortly followed by a bag containing a delicious bread loaf. After scarfing most of that down with my beverage, two lightly beer battered hunks of cod arrived, served with homemade tartar sauce, delectable coleslaw and a goodly supply of fries. As I observed Sophia doing her thing, practically running the restaurant from the centrally located bar, I was impressed with her ability to multitask, at the same time meeting the needs of individual diners. Amazing!

Delicious Filet Mignon

My husband and I ate here on a Friday night and the place was packed. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, but it was well worth the wait. My husband had the fish and chips and the fish was fresh and not overly battered. I ordered filet mignon with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables and a cup of corn chowder (one of the specials). I wasn't a big fan of the chowder (the pieces of potato were far too big and it contained bacon pieces, which I think is icky in any soup because they get soggy). However, the filet mignon was EXCELLENT. It was cooked exactly to my liking (medium-well), with a wonderful sauce and a butter topping. The mashed potatoes were good. Though they looked plain at first, the vegetables tasted lovely and they were cut just right. (Some places cut carrots too thickly to cook at the same rate as zucchini, but here they were sliced thin and cooked well without being overcooked). Overall, I would definitely return, though I might make reservations. I used to come here fairly often for lunch with girlfriends, but they are closed for lunch now, sadly. Don't be fooled by the strip mall exterior, the inside has a nice decor and ambiance (especially when the fire is going) and the food is fantastic.

Great food and great portions

My friend told me that the perch was the best in the area and he was right. The sweet potato fries were plentiful and delicious as well. I will definitely return. Reservations recommended.

Nice people, delish food, but LOUD.

The food was good. The staff super nice. However, it was uncomfortably loud. The din was unbearable. Put up baffles to help reduce the noise.

Quiet, friendly, great service

Lakes has the best filet mignon around, imho. Great place for conversations--the walls are covered with a cloth like covering and it keeps it quieter than other places we've been.

The whitefish had too much breading and the vegetables & redskin potatoes were coated with butter. What a disappointment!

Not Very Good and is high priced

went for lunch today slow service and food was not quality perch had bones in it and grease was on top of it. The plate my food was on had large chips in 3 corner of plate was not a dinner i liked at all and was expensive too will never return.we spent over $84.00. for lunch. there was my husband and i and our grandaughter

Mike K - I am sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations with regards to the food and service. Your comments have been shared with managers, chef and his staff and the servers. Sharing your comments with the manager would have allowed us to right the food and the server' advised of what expected service should have been.

Wonderful Taste of Food in Commerce that needs more upscale places such as The Lakes Bar & Grille

I have been eating at the Lakes Bar and Grille for year. In the Commerce area we do not have many options for upscale dining. The food and menu are always top notch, with new items on menu all the time. The Lakes Bar & Grille service goes along with the top notch food as well as explaining specials on the menu. I would hope you try them, as you will find the food, drinks, and services fits the bill for a nice dining experience when just standard won't do.

Cool atmosphere, great food: firecracker chicken, fresh fish specials, very fresh salads, love the wedge salad, great salmon. Josh the bartender the best in the business. We live nearby and are not related to the owners!

Great for a girls lunch date

Restaurant is in a small strip mall, with a parking lot out front. There’s seating at the bar with tables and booths available. The restrooms are easily accessed in a walkway and it’s all flat, no steps. A number of tables were occupied but it wasn’t too noisy. Had an affordable and delicious lunch - small Mediterranean Salad (artichokes, olives, bell peppers, cucumber, mixed greens & dressing) with a side of fries. The fries are amazing; chunky & super crisp, very tasty. Can’t wait for my next visit there!

This is our go to for a good casual dinner (don't think Applebees) and wine or cocktails. Great daily specials and standards like firecracker pasta, French onion soup, dry rub ribs). And DECENT WINE!. Sit at the bar to meet local neighbors and eat dinner. I like the front of the restaurant booths or bar. Back is nice too but not my first choice. It's a great choice!

Great Little Place

We went here for lunch and I loved my rib dinner. Two of the guys had asparagus soup and it was delicious. The fish & chips were outstanding. The fourth entree was the Michigan salad and it was yummy, too. Would definitely return to try more menu items. Service was great. We stayed a little after to chat and didn't feel rushed to leave.
