And it was really good back then, too. This is a unique place, and pretty famous. A small doughnut shop that started as a place to help revitalize a small town that had lost all its manufacturing jobs. The police officers banded together and started to make this work. They are so successful they bought out the Clare Bakery that... More

Doughnuts and cop memorabilia, what more could you ask for? Always stop with my son on our way up north for deer season. A great variety of doughnuts, pastries, and cookies. They even have their own brand of coffee. You can also get food in the café. The raised doughnut with chocolate glaze and bacon is so sinful that it's... More

For a little town in the middle of Michigan, we sure have a lot of visitors thanks in part to Cops & Doughnuts. Great breakfasts, lunches, and of course sweets. My favorite, if you love coconut, you'll love it too, is the Driftwood. Second favorite, is Apple Fritter, and then there's the giant cookies, Molasses, yum. Cup of nice hot... More

Unless you are there first thing in the morning, don't bother. Their advertised donuts are gone and they don't make more until the next day. The donuts left in the afternoon can be bought elsewhere for cheaper. We stopped three weeks ago and complained about the selection and was told they would send a gift card to make up for... More

Travelling home from up north and stopped in. Quaint town, great bakery. Had a triple chocolate donut and lemon bar, take out rather than eat in. Both were excellent!

Went to visit Clare specifically to check out 'Cops and Doughnuts'. What a great choice. Set in a Quaint town of Clare, is a historic bakery, rescued by 9 cops, which has the largest variety of pastries I've ever seen. In addition, if you don't just want doughnuts, you can order any one of a variety of sandwiches. ( make... More

Every time we are in Claire we stop at Cops and Donuts. The pastries are good and very large. There is also a lunchroom with many items with interesting names. Such as the misdemeanor wiener. If you're in the area make a point to stop.

I actually don't find their doughnuts to be anything special. I've had far better apple fritters. Their coffee is okay. The best thing about the place is their Reubens, but they jacked up the price of them so much that it's not worth it anymore. I think most people go in for the novelty. It makes the doughnuts taste better... More

Driving through town we had to stop at a place called Cops and Doughnuts. Busy local joint with a large selection of doughnuts and pastries. The coffee was hot and fresh brewed, the way cops like. The doughnuts were fresh and melted in your mouth. The Apple Fritters were a meal. The staff is helpful and patient while you make... More

Never been, but told it is a must stop for those living in lower Michigan when traveling "up north". On a Sun morning this place was buzzing, but line for donuts moved quickly. Spoke to someone in line who just happened to be an employee buying donuts and asked for a recommendation.... Long Johns, apple fritters and cherry blossoms. So... More

Description
There is a doughnut shop and bakery in Clare, Michigan that has been in constant operation since 1896. This foundation business was within weeks of closing when the members of the Clare Police Department came to the rescue. All of them. That's right, all nine members of the local police department banded together to save this historic business.Dubbed "Cops and Doughnuts," the business boasts handmade confections of all types. Join us for a warm fresh doughnut and a steaming cup of Cops Coffee while you enjoy the police decor and friendly, and very safe, atmosphere. Come and see the new store in Clare that everyone is talking about.Since opening as Cops & Doughnuts our business has expanded in to other adjoining store fronts allowing us to ad the "Cop Shop" our apparel and souvenir shop. And the "Traffic Stop Diner" featuring many American Diner favorites.
