The Thimbleberry Margarita was really good. Nice to have something a little different. Great food at a reasonable price. Busy place with friendly service.

Carmelita’s is a quaint place with fascinating decor. Service is prompt and very friendly. Food is fantastic and the best thing there is the Thimbleberry margaritas! They are a MUST!

I should preface that we went here as a group of 4 couples, and in today’s business climate everyone is struggling with getting staffing up to appropriate levels. On to the review: Well, the drinks were excellent. The bartender was quick and the drinks were...great. Most of our folks had the Thimbleberry margarita and all recommend it highly. The chips, salsa, guacamole and cheese sauce were really good too. From there, things really went downhill. Nearly everyone’s meal was lukewarm at best. One of our group had tortillas with the meal that were cold - almost like straight from the refrigerator… Not sure what species of fish in the tacos - they were not good. I had the the Green Chile Cheeseburger- I would suggest ordering something else.More

Our party stopped at a restaurant after a long day out celebrating an anniversary. Upon being seated, we were given the option of nacho cheese or guacamole with our chips and salsa. We requested nacho cheese, but unfortunately, the communication regarding this was not passed...on to the next person. In top of that, our chips tasted stale and old. We experienced a delay of approximately 15 minutes in getting our drink orders taken. Furthermore, our food took over an hour to arrive after we had placed our order. We specifically asked for mild sauce on the side for a burrito, due to my personal medical condition called parosmia and anosmia, which affects my taste and smell. Despite our request, the burrito arrived with the sauce directly on top, rendering it inedible for me. Unfortunately, when the server inquired about any issues, she engaged in an argumentative discussion instead of addressing our concerns. To add to our disappointment, only two individuals out of our group of six found the food to be of satisfactory quality. We unanimously agreed that the rice and beans were notably subpar.More

I had the chicken fijitas, and they were disappointing. There were 9 small pieces of thinly sliced chicken with no seasoning whatsoever on them. I also had the chips and salsa. They give you a huge basket of chips and a tiny little cup of...salsa that don't last long. The service wasn't that good either, but they appeared shorthanded also.More

We had a nice dinner with our family; there were some chefs in the group. My food was very good. A few people thought it was average. Service was friendly and good. Recommend.

Walked from Airbnb. Waitress was a bit odd. Chips & salsa are not free but only $2 for unlimited refills. The salsa is a bit spicy. I had a taco salad & my husband had a quesadilla. The quesadilla was HUGE. We both had chicken...which was delicious. The beans in my salad kind of ruined the salad. You could tel they were straight from a can. Not our first time eating at Carmelitas and won't be our last when we're in the area again.More

After waiting by the door for over 5 minutes, I decided to take a peek inside and try to get our party seated. 2 bartenders advised (scolded?) they couldn't be bothered and I needed to stand by the door until hostess seated us. (Place was...not busy at all). Several employees walked by, did not acknowledge. We were all literally Googling restaurants when we were finally offered to be seated. Waitress was nice, obviously sick of tourists, but did an adequate job of fetching food even though not sensitive at all to food allergy questions and seemed unfamiliar and unexcited about most menu items (steaks, fish, chicken, sauces) If you want an OK meal, prepared and served by people who just don't care, this is your spot. They have obviously had too much business this summer and are over it. I get it. It happens in my town too; that's why I prefer to eat at home most days. The one plus: most menu items & domestic beer prices are fairly reasonable.More

Visiting from "down state", looked at local options and, fortunately, chose to eat here. Grandson enjoyed special alcoholic drink featured and unusual. I have to eat gluten-free and found a nice selection to choose from on the menu. Weather was conducive to sitting outside, we...were in no hurry and the young man playing his guitar, singing was a refreshing bonus. I highly recommend Carmelitas and would return if in the area.More

Terrible service! They are short staffed, but the one waitress there was detached and gruff. In the beginning we were “please, thank you, when you have a minute…” but she was not polite in return. she brought me a Golden margarita with 2 fruit flies...as garnish. Asked for a lid for the salsa I was taking and a kid threw it into my to go container. Also, their website shows they are open on Mondays. They are not. When I suggested they correct the website, the waitress said they have, several times. Based on the service we got today, I don’t believe she was telling the truth. Just my opinion. Oh, the lettuce used in our salads was “old and wilted.” We will not be back.More

We staying in Calumet for a family vacation and were recommended to Carmelitas for dinner. It is great Southwestern food. The beans are delicious and the combo platters are a good deal. We even had live music while we dined.

My niece had a hard time getting her dairy free/ gluten-free salad made. She had severe cramps after the meal because of possible dairy in the guacamole. The young waitress needed to slow down and take better notes or the kitchen help needed to read...the order better. I had the taco salad and my shell was not crispy at all and I tried to cut it and found a paper napkin under it.More
