A step back in time through the screen door of this general store that Ernest Hemingway visited daily as he was growing up in the area. Unique gifts, bakery items, souvenirs.

What a wonderful time don't know how Chip and staff do it. The atmosphere was close to prefect the food!!!!! And again the people made a night we will long remember. Thank you so much. Have a fun summer we will be back.
Although it was kinda neat, the place is nearly barren of merchandise and certainly didn't carry a large assortment of "old time" goods, as was the word around town. (Cracker Barrel has 100 times more Old Time items in it's restaurant stores, for pete's sake!
Incredible atmosphere, fantastic service, and best tapas I’ve ever eaten. You won’t be disappointed!
We have had breakfast there many times. Never again!! We went to buy cookies from their glass case. There were big black carpenter ants running all over the baked goods. Disgusting. Can’t even imagine the cleanliness of the kitchen area!
Wonderful friendly service and the food was great. I especially loved my quiche. My husband's favorite was the Turkey provolone with cranberry horseradish relish.
We visited this general store the last time we were in Boyne City and I must say how disappointed we we're in this visit. There is no friendliness. The provisions they use to have are gone. Very very little selection. Over hyped and disappointing to...say the least. They rely on the Hemmingway connection.More
Neat store, eclectic selection of goods and gifts. Fun candy counter. And this store gets a "shout-out" in Hemingway's short story, titled Up In Michigan!
If you are visiting the Charlevoix or Petosky area be sure to make reservations for dinner at The Horton Bay General Store! The atmosphere is charming, the staff is delightful and the food simply scrumptious!!!!
We stopped in because of the Hemingway history and it didn't disappoint us. Memorabilia, articles, and pictures were displayed. The floors were uneven and creaked when you walked. This is an old building. We bought a couple of cookies and sat out back in the...garden and enjoyed themMore
I had lunch there. The food is wonderful and the ambiance so nice. We ate outside and although it was cool that day the terrace is protected from the breeze and it was delightful. The owners are ever-present and so very helpful
Many historic places are made to look as if they still existed in 1925 or 1899, but Horton Bay General Store feels as if nothing has changed since Hemingway sat on a bar stool here and had his nightly cup of coffee. Magical, writerly place...to dream! The food is fresh and well prepared, too, if you need more than a literary feast.More
Great historical setting in one of Ernest Hemingway's old favorites. Casual and gently upscale. Chef provides excellent variety of delicious and imaginative tapas. Service is very good and Owner is always there to meet, greet, and insure good food and a fun dining experience. Wine...list is very good and reasonably priced. A very nice alternative to typical fine dining.More
Very interesting store, just a shame we were not hungry. Everything looked very tasty. We plan to stop back on next trip.
It is like stepping into a museum! the owner was charming and so nice! Food was yummy and we felt like family! baked goods were especially wonderful! Great for breakfast and lunch. Sorry we could not have their tapas for dinner, but they were booked....Make reservations for dinner!More
