Many historic places are made to look as if they still existed in 1925 or 1899, but Horton Bay General Store feels as if nothing has changed since Hemingway sat on a bar stool here and had his nightly cup of coffee. Magical, writerly place to dream! The food is fresh and well prepared, too, if you need more than... More

Great historical setting in one of Ernest Hemingway's old favorites. Casual and gently upscale. Chef provides excellent variety of delicious and imaginative tapas. Service is very good and Owner is always there to meet, greet, and insure good food and a fun dining experience. Wine list is very good and reasonably priced. A very nice alternative to typical fine dining.

Very interesting store, just a shame we were not hungry. Everything looked very tasty. We plan to stop back on next trip.

It is like stepping into a museum! the owner was charming and so nice! Food was yummy and we felt like family! baked goods were especially wonderful! Great for breakfast and lunch. Sorry we could not have their tapas for dinner, but they were booked. Make reservations for dinner!

We had a wonderful al fresco dinner of many tapas for our somewhat lively family group. The staff did a great job of organizing our ordering and serving delicious food which everyone (including kids) enjoyed! Would happily return!

We made reservations here for a Sunday night dinner. The seating is small, quiet and relaxing--no competing with street noise here. The tapas portions are generous, intended to serve 4, so two can eat well with 3 dishes. You choose your bottle of wine and can take it home with you if you don't finish, so economical for budget keepers.... More

Stop here on our bike rides to/from Charlevoix and enjoy their home made sweet treats, but the deli and evening tapas menu also looks wonderful.

Make reservations for the Tapas dinner @ Horton Bay General Store. It feels like your oldest friends invited you over for dinner as you sit on a perfectly quant backyard patio. And the food wows at every course. We went with a group of 10 and ordered one of everything to share - the meatballs, duck and scallops had us... More

This store serves tapas during the summer season. They have a back room for dinner service but as the place was full, we were seated in the store. The food was excellent, the wine was very reasonable. Darlene Kline was the chef and came to our table to discuss the food preparation and selection. We all complimented her on the... More

It's a bit difficult to rate HBGS by typical restaurant standards. It is easy to give a 5 star rating but the experience is unusual: open for dinner on Fri/Sat/Sun only; a limited (but creative) tapas menu (really "small plate"; no particular Spanish influence was noted); an informal and charming atmosphere, but diners expecting white tablecloth ambiance may be disappointed....
