Had dinner here for the first time with friends and family. Menu has both entrees and sandwiches and salads. Full bar and many craft beer choices. I don’t believe they take reservations but we had no trouble getting a table when we arrived. Two of us ordered the prime rib dinner special ($21.95) that included two sides and a loaf of fresh baked bread. One tried the hot beef sandwich that looked delicious and came with mashed potatoes and was smothered in gravy. Another tried the chicken Caesar salad (that needed more dressing). Two tried soup and both said it was very tasty. Waitress was attentive but did not hover or rush us. My only complaint was that each of the prime rib dinners came with a loaf of the bread but only one loaf was delivered to our table. When we asked for another loaf we were surprised to see we were charged for it!!

Good Lake Fish - Train New Employees

On Monday night in Bellaire, we quickly learned that only a few restaurants were open. Initially, we attempted to get into Shorts Brewery but with over a 30 minute wait and their noisy dining room, we opted to have dinner at Toonies. While they have a limited beer and wine menu they brag on their Meat and Fish. Opting for the Perch sandwich and white fish sandwich, both were very good and exactly what we wanted for dinner. Initially, a new employee waited in us. Sad she had not been trained as she didn’t even know if they served wine. In my opinion a twofold issue 1) management should have her shadow a seasoned waitress and 2) as a new employee she also has a responsibility to acclimate herself with the restaurant, the menu, and all they serve even if management does not have a good training program. Interesting to watch as a seasoned employee took over our table and easily managed our dinners and drinks with ease. She could have been a role model for the new employee. Sometimes hard to determine where issue was. However, the bottom line is appropriate training program is managements responsibility.

Breakfast Delight

Breakfast was pretty good. I ordered biscuits and gravy. Gravy had a different taste from what I’m used to, but it was very tasty. Wife ordered a ham omelet and thought it was tasty. Waitress was excellent!! Waitress actually put some faith back into Bellaire hospitality. The waitress from a previous restaurant the day before and the receptionist at the local resort were very rude. I would go back and eat here again. I wouldn’t mind trying lunch or dinner.

Don't make a special trip!

We were in the area for vacation and someone in our group suggested we try this local spot. We had a long wait which was expected due to having a large group. Once we got a table, it took a long time for someone to come and take a drink order. The girl that took the order was not our waitress. We only had one person order a drink from the bar, which never came. After an extended period of time the waitress finally showed up and acted like the wait was normal. We ordered an appetizer only to be told 15 minutes later that they were out of that appetizer. Then when the salad came we were informes they were out of ranch. Which became an even bigger issue for our two kids who ordered chicken strips. Then the our food came and it just kept getting worse. Three people in our group had steak and it was the worst steak all of them had ever had. They all agreed it was horrible. Ice cold and under cooked. The food was old and nasty. To top it all off was the waitress with an attitude. She never apologized, she was very snoty and rude. We will never go back and we will tell all our friends to avoid this dive.

Small lunch portion

We visited here for lunch because many places didn’t open until later in the day. The menu looked good but since it was lunchtime I opted for a steak sandwich and was under impressed with the size of it. Waitress was attentive.

Fish fry was good, sandwiches were not so great

The waitstaff was extremely friendly and helpful and they had a takeout window for Covid restrictions. We really enjoyed the fish and chips, but the sandwiches we ordered were just ok, and the chips were stale. I was really disappointed to see the kitchen staff without masks as well.

Worst rib eye I ever had. Too tough to chew, under cooked, sent it back, came back microwaved and still under cooked. Service was fine, french fries were great, steak sucked balls.

Best breakfast of the whole trip

Stopped in for breakfast on our way out of town. Staff was friendly and efficient. Nice to see regulars there having coffee and visiting. I had the breakfast skillet - husband had omelet. Both were outstanding. Their wheat bread was so good we asked if it was homemade. Will definitely put this on our list as must do when we are in town again.

Best Pie EVER!

A local shop owner recommended this diner to us. The menu was a good blend of home cooking and healthy choices. My partner chose the Smothered Bull, an open face burger with garlic mashed potatoes and gravy. He was in burger heaven! I went with the homemade chili. It was a large bowl with the right amount of 'kick'. There was a wide range of beer selections to go with our meal. My partner had the ‘M-43’ from Old Nation Brewery - 2 thumbs up! The big surprise was the pie! We decided to split a piece of blueberry pie ala mode. It was EXCELLENT! The best we've ever had - and we eat a lot of pie! We 're already thinking about when we can go back to try another kind!

Good food!

We were in town for three days and ate here for many of our meals. Great breakfasts - good lunches and wonderful evening meal specials. We had the whitefish, and rib specials. Service was good and the food was excellent - all at a reasonable price. The ambiance might be a bit less than some of the other places in town, but the food can’t be beat.

100 Mold on the tomato in my frozen salad. That told me everything I need to know about the kitchen. My server's response was, "Oh, sorry." The apparent indifference to proper storage and handling of refrigerated food, coupled with indifference by the server, hints at deeper issues. You may want to try somewhere else.

Excellent Menu Variety, Good Food

Toonies has a nice variety of choices, from sandwiches, salads to entrees. Meat, fish, and vegetarian options. Also good for those who want healthy options. I got beef vegetable soup plus one of their salads, both were delicious. My dining partners all got the Wednesday dinner rib special, which they all enjoyed. Highly recommend.

Consistently good fresh food every time we stop in!

Tried the Friday fish fry today first time. My wife and I enjoyed it. Atlantic whitefish, lightly breaded. Very very tasty! AYCE for $13.50 each. That’s a deal! Fries were hand cut, cole slaw was fresh and ice cold. Staff is always nice and very good at there job. Breakfast also very good. Not open on weekends probably because they don’t have to be and I bet the staff loves it and I am ok with it. Well worth a visit, good food, enough to fill you and very clean.

Great Food

Very Delicious Food! We went to order an appetizer and honesty couldn’t decide, there was a few things that sounded really amazing. We settled on the crab dip. It was incredibly good, I would highly recommend giving that a try. We split a steak with a side of sweet potato and chili. Then to our surprise, the hauled out a giant loaf of bread to go with the meal. The chili was pretty spicy, but that’s honestly what I prefer. I would definitely return. Food was very good!

Just the right place to have a nice meal. We were there for breakfast. Oatmeal with pecans, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, toast. Service was very good. Came back later to enjoy the wannabe entertainers for karaoke. While we watched and listened to them we enjoyed cocktails.
