I would like to preface this review by saying that I am a nursing student with a significant amount of college debt, and I have not been working since I started my program about a year and a half ago. Tonight, on my way home...from a 12-hour clinical rotation, I decided to surprise my boyfriend with a nice takeout dinner from Artichokes to celebrate his birthday. When I went to pick up my order, I was greeted by a woman whom I now know is the manager. She told me that I owed $52 and change for my food, so I handed her $60. She then asked me if I wanted change (which was ignorant in itself), and when I responded that I did, she appeared none too happy about it. When she gave me my change, she proceeded to shame me into tipping for a takeout order by saying, "You don't want to tip the girls?" I hesitated at her rude advance and told her that she had given me the correct change. She then repeated, "You don't want to tip the girls." I was appalled, and at that point, I said, "No, I'm all set." She laughed in my face as if I had done something wrong, so I then turned and walked out. I understand that the restaurant staff had not been working for two and a half months, but the manager was extremely presumptive to assume that I had any more money in my pocket than has any of her staff. It is very likely that they have all been collecting decent unemployment checks during their furloughs, and for management to be putting customers on the spot tells me that manager is ignorant, rude, crass, and an embarrassment to the restaurant she represents. If I'm not mistaken, we live in a free country where we are able to CHOOSE whether or not we want to tip. It will be a cold day in hell before I or any of my family and friends visit Artichokes, and I will be sure to spread the word about town as to the demoralizing treatment I received from this despicable human being. Arthchokes should be ashamed of themselves for putting this poor excuse of a manager out front as their representation.More

Many years ago we frequented Artichokes in Malden where there was no bar but they served beer and wine. More recently we have visited the Wakefield location and sat at tables for 6. Tonight (2 of us) we went and sat at the bar early...on a Saturday night and although the drinks were good, and the food pretty much as usual, we found the bartender loud and obnoxious so not sure that we would return to eat at the bar.More

Delicious food and excellent service. We arrived right at 4:30 pm and were pleasantly greeted with home made bread. Dinner was wonderful and everyone was very attentive. The cannolis were light and creamy. I would highly recommend. We can't wait to go back!

I went here for the first time tonight with my father and sister and we all loved it. I got a calamari appetizer and frutti di mare for my main course. For dessert, I had a delicious chocolate cake. Everything was wonderful. The food tasted...great and our waitress did a great job serving our meals in a quick, efficient manner. The restaurant was a nice place and I hope to return there soon.More

I was taken here for a Business Dinner. Everything was amazing. From the food to the service. The meatballs are the best I ever had.

This is a small restaurant in the heart of beautiful Wakefield, MA. Food is great. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Highly suggest reservations for Fri/Sat evening. Bar area cozy place to have a drink as you wait for your table.

Dear Owner, I was looking forward to writing a positive thank you letter to you. Unfortunately I am writing you this letter to complain. In July I called to make a reservation for a Monday night at 6:30PM. The reservation was for 8/13/18 the night...before my wife’s birthday. I asked the hostess if we could sit at the large table with the curtains in front of it. She explained to me that if there were large party that wanted the table, they would be given the table, which makes sense. I told her that was fine. She said where it was a Monday night and early it would be likely the table would be ours. I was very excited because this would make the birthday dinner more exciting. So this past Monday night we arrived at Artichokes on time. I told the hostess we had a reservation. She didn’t even bother to look at it and showed us a corner table. I explained to her about our reservation. Now before I go any further let me explain, the restaurant was maybe at best, half full. Probably not even half full. I told the hostess about our reservation. She said it wasn’t possible since the restaurant was almost full which it clearly wasn’t. She said that whoever made the reservation was mistaken and they couldn’t possibly seat us there, even though no one was sitting there. This is ridiculous. All I wanted to do is something a little extra special for my wife’s birthday. I am very, very disappointed in your restaurant. I have been an outspoken supporter of Artichokes on social media but I don’t feel I can do that anymore. Let me say, the meal and our waitress were great but that doesn’t make up for the ludicrous behavior of the hostess who didn’t even look at our reservation. Please do something to rectify the situation and give me a reason to come back to Artichokes.More

We had a call ahead, no reservations taken, 7 people for dinner. Owner reassured us that she tries to accommodate large parties esp. if an 81 y.o. in the group. Arrived at 6:30 sat downstairs in disorganized room with bar where bar tender was rolling...her eyes at people, where hostess would walk through room yelling for particular people. Finally seated at 8:45(painfully too long), they were out of bread and specialty pasta, no compensation for food delay, still haven't eaten at 10pm!!! Owner called over, unapologetic, rude and justified the lack of meal. We walked out hungry and angry!!More
