The way things are (still) going with the pandemic we are seeing places close up shop and have been sitting on a gift card for more than a year so we figured while we had an Indian Summer day, let's go eat on the porch....When we called to make reservations, they only had later times available. We called back later because they wanted a credit card to secure the reservation (apparently a no show pays $35 for tying up a table), and were delighted to hear that they had a cancelation and a 5pm porch table became available. We had a nice sunset and eventually they had a heater turned on, but it was 65 degrees and fine. The hostess pleasantly took us to our choice of 3 tables on the porch, we chose the one by itself. Our waiter, Tom, was quick to tend to us, and their strict policies require us patrons to don our masks every time he came to our table. They had hand sanitizer on the table, disposable menus, silverware wrapped in a napkin in a gallon ziplock storage bag, and water in a large bottle that you refilled yourself. He did minimize trips to the table to minimize mask wearing for us, but he was there at all the right times. Everything is priced piecemeal. Bread is extra. Salad is extra. I ordered a blueberry soda from Maine Root Beer? ($5) which was great. Light flavor and in a bottle to pour myself over ice in a glass. I ordered the filet mignon ($40) with mashed potatoes and green beans. It said 8 ounces but it seemed bigger. Very tasty and tender. My wife chose a Blue Heron cheeseburger, Carmelized Onion Jam ($18) and great tasting handcut French fries, cole slaw, and a pickle. She ordered a house salad ($8) with vinaigrette dressing. Dessert was Chocolate Truffle Torte with brandied cherries, whipped cream, and coffee ice cream for me ($12), and my wife got 4 cinnamon ricotta donut holes with caramel and fudge toppings on the side ($6). The other tables filled up, as did the parking lot. I don't think the pandemic will take this place out, currently open Wednesday through Sunday from 5pm -9pm. Checkout was right at the table with a remote credit card device. A better than expected meal and evening that with a $20 tip only cost us $15 out of pocket.More

Kudos to blue heron for a lovely take out family dinner for 11 Saturday night. Everything was delicious and generous. Flawless ordering, pickup etc. even the garden salad was terrific! I hope to come back again when we can enjoy dinner in person...or even another...family dinner to go! Thanks so much for a wonderful dinner. Aes1@nyu.eduMore

Ordered a wine and then the pan fried oysters as a first course - oysters came, 2 out of six had girt and shell bits - wine came 1/2 way thorough the oysters - slaw was really good - oysters were OK. Main was a...lobster roll - this slaw was pedestrian, lobster was mediocre (far better one at Scotti's in Leeds at- hole in the wall at a driving range at 1/2 the price) - chips were really good. Service was appropriate.More

We wanted to eat on the patio but because of the weather, we ate inside. Always a good experience to dine here. We had the warm olives with a glass of wine. None of the entrees appealed to us so we each ordered a couple...of appetizers. My wife's oysters were delicious and her farmer's salad was quite good. My gazpacho was ok but a little heavy on the raw onions. My scallops with lentils was very good, especially the scallops were seared perfectly. Recommended but not cheap.More

Amazing food, ambiance, and safety. I’ve been here before and always had an incredible meal and wonderful service, and the steps they’ve taken for Covid safety are wonderful. Upon arriving we were greeted outside and told that they would come get us when our table...was ready. They ask that you wear your mask whenever not sitting at your table, and also when an employee approaches your table. All of this was clearly and kindly expressed to us. They also provide hand sanitizer and a little sign laying out their guidelines on each table. Which takes away a lot of confusion and worries about forgetting your personal stash of sanitizer at home. The outdoor patio has very well spaced tables and exits. It was the first time my health-compromised partner had been out since March, and his anxieties quickly subsided after seeing all these wonderful precautions. And now for the food and drinks! For appetizers the tuna and bacon wrapped blue cheese stuffed dates are incredible. We also loved the salmon and seafood stew entrees. For dessert, the donuts and roasted strawberry cheesecake were absolutely delicious. Lisa Smith (an incredible mixologist and bartender) made us some epic drinks (I suggest the New Green Deal and Paper Planes). Megan, our server, was a delight as always. Even with her mask on you could feel the warmth from her lovely smile. All in all it was truly one of the best dinner experiences I’ve had in over a year. Even if you feel comfortable with indoor dining I highly suggest their patio, the ambiance is truly amazing.More

105 days after eating fast food at an airport quick-casual restaurant, my wife and I tip-toed in to a favorite restaurant last evening for a trial run at a decent meal out. We weren't disappointed - food, service and Coronavirus protocols were all outstanding. We...had booked the patio, but after two straight days of rain and three highly professional calls received from the restaurant, we accepted indoor dining the evening after our original reservation. The dining room this Sunday evening was well under capacity; we felt very comfortable. We had dined at Blue Heron several times previously, and it was an excellent choice for this first venture in to the revised world of restaurant dining. My wife and I were warmly greeted by the hostess and whisked to our table. The open window and fresh breeze were a nice touch in this old, beautifully restored building. The patio would have been nice, but it was way too rainy this evening. Our server was prompt, friendly, and followed every imaginable protocol throughout the meal service. When he approached, up our masks went (we agreed with the restaurant that we should be mutually respectful in that regard). Our specialty gin cocktail was excellent; better than anything I can possibly concoct at home. We shared a burrata-tomato salad, each enjoyed the mediterranean seafood stew (undoubtedly the very best polenta I have ever enjoyed anywhere), and finished with strawberry shortcake (again, the biscuit was clearly house-baked and superior in every regard). We also each enjoyed a glass of provence rose wine; BH's wine list is respectable and at a reasonable price point. This was an outstanding dinner in every possible regard, and probably seemed even better due to the fact we hadn't dined out in 3 1/2 months. Given the new protocols forced on the restaurant industry due to the ongoing virus, it really was remarkable how Blue Heron pulled off such a wonderful 5-star meal. Highly recommended, and we plan to return even more often that we have previously.More

Table for four for a business dinner. It was recommended by a colleague and we were not disappointed. Very tasty selections, many locally sourced ingredients, and a wonderful historic building. I would love to come back during warmer weather to enjoy the outside seating. Our...server was very attentive and friendly.More

We (two couples) recently dined at the Blue Heron to celebrate a birthday. We hadn't been here previously, but we were very impressed by the lovely interior decor; the lighting, artwork, and music contributed to a very classy and relaxed dining environment, and the spacing...of the tables in the room gave each group the ability to converse comfortably without raising voices or straining to hear. Our waiter, Henri/Henry, was helpful and polished and showed a perfect subtle sense of humor, and his timing for check-ins throughout the meal was excellent. Finally...the food....wow. All four of us chose different appetizers and meals, then shared a couple of desserts and every bit of it was fantastic! We are always on the search for great dining experiences, and the Blue Heron is definitely a place we will return to!!More

We visit the area often coming from Boston and have found Blue Heron has one of the best menus and restaurant service in the area. We look forward to dining here but try to book early in the week as they often are booked for...weekend nights.More
