Started going to Bub's while attending UMass many years ago. Now we make the trip out there at least once a year. Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pok, all fantastic The buffet of sides was always a big draw and I wondered how much I would miss...it in due to the Pandemic. Our combo plates came with 3 sides, which was more than enough. The kiddo got a burger with double fries, which made him very happy. Lots of tables outside too! I miss in ambience of indoor picnic tables, but they handle everything really well.More

We ate dinner after a trip to the butterfly place and yankee candle. My parents and the reviews raved about this place. We were disappointed on every level. The restaurant is cramped and awkward, the meat portions were small, the sides were cold and overall...did not taste good, the sweet bbq sauce was way too sweet. They offer too many side....make only a few sides and do them well. For reference we are from the boston area and Blue Ribbon BBQ is our gold standard for BBQ.More

The best bbq joint in the area. Very informal but very tasty. Excelent choice for dinner. Sides are all you can eat and the brisket and pulled pork are exceptional

I'm rating Bub's against New England BBQ restaurants (not the south) -- it is excellent and one of two I"ll drive out of my way for. It's on RT 116 near Amherst/UMASS. You order and pay at the counter.... get your beer and get your...side dishes from an all you can eat side dish buffet.... get a table. They call your name when your main dish is ready. I had 1/2 a rack of ribs. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich. $33 for two dinners and two draft beers. Great value. Counter service only. You bus your own table and pick up your own food. The food is excellent. The sides = beans, cole slaw, roast potatoes, vegetable soup, bread & butter, potato salad, succotash, salad fixings....... Dinning inside, on a porch with picnic tables and outside under a tent. We'll be back.More

When my wife and I moved back to the Valley in 1990, we lived in North Hadley, and Bub's was an absolute lifeline. There was almost NO BBQ in New England in those days, and Bub's did a a very solid job, and also offered...an unlimited hot/cold buffet that was paradise for our kids, and also offered some very nice things for the older crowd. There was also a free jukebox, and I have many incredibly happy memories of being there with my kids going nuts with pleasure. That said. the Valley upped its bbq game at some point (Holy Smokes R.I.P.) and even though Bub's still had an extremely full lot -- especially when school was in session -- trends (including the trend of my own ass and waistline) eventually pointed us in other directions (especially after we moved to Franklin County in the later '90s). But then, the other night, It was too hot to cook. I had nothing ready for the grill. And when I said, "Bub's?" My wife's eyes lit up. She had cajun catfish, I had kielbasa, and man, it was solid! The hot-cold bar had evolved a but, but not enough to keep anyone from going ape, the food was solid, and the juke is still free, It is just great Bub's is doing what its doing, giving generations of people good, basic smoked meat, with more add-ons than they can swallow! and for a great price! Bub's provide the kind of introduction to bbq (for students from literally EVERYWHERE) that will make them want to go home and figure out their own version. Once you've had Bub's, you will know that BBQ is the best thing on earth. Dig in!More

If your not a big fan of BBQ, just the sides will bring you back. Bubs's is a no nonsense joint on thr side of the road with picnic tables and paper towels on them. Many choices will greet you from fried alligator to ribs...but I go for the sides. Sweet potato casserole with Rice Crispy topping is like having your desert with you main meal. Other goodies include collard greens, cold bean salad and chicken and sausage gumbo.More

Let's start with positives. Pulled Pork is great. Most meals come with unlimited hot/cold sides. Now, no more vegetable soup. Always a great thing to have while you wait for the meats, But today, it was chicken sausage gumbo. A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Second, potato salad...no longer has dill. The unique seasoning was a signature dish for Bubs. Lastly, sides were limited and about half of the choice in my past visits. (Was it because it was a weekday?) Sorry.More

I don’t understand why so many people come here? Younwait on a long line for your food, find a table if you are lucky, and then eat sauce drowned food that is only just average.
