The Independent is a great restaurant, The food was good and plentiful portions. The mac & cheese I had was such a wonderful warm mouthful of home style goodness. Prices were good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Nice to have a place open on New Year's day especially after the bitterly cold ceremony on Prospect Hill to raise the original 1776 flag. Hot toddy and mulled cider warmed us up. Irish Breakfast was a delicious mix of meats, eggs and home fries,...almost too much. Ken;s Benedict was good too. Very friendly, prompt service.More

Two bars, plenty of table seating, good service, excellent food, and a pretty respectable beer/liquor menu. What's not to like?? I had the fish and chips, which was on point, and the $1 raw oysters were amazing! I'm really picky about my oysters, and I...was impressed; these were fresh and delicious. I'll definitely be back when I'm in town.More

I went in to see if I wanted to stay. It was hoping with the afterwork crowd. Looked classy with well-dressed people, pretty full. I think it's the place to go in the area. Looked historic unlike lots of other places around the area. The...area is improving and under construction.More

We enjoyed an excellent dinner here. The zucchini noodles were well-prepared and the grilled chicken on the the very fresh strawberry and arugula salad was tender and flavorful. Our waiter was particularly attentive to the needs of the gluten-free diners in our party.

I was recently here after work for some drinks and apps and it didn't disappoint. It has a great little outdoor seating area perfect for a group of friends and their drink list is long enough to find something for everyone, but not too extensive...where you struggle to come to a decision. They take average bar food and really elevate it with great flavor, all served by great staff. Be sure to get here early to get decent parking. That would be the only struggle during busy times.More

We came here for my daughter's 21st birthday and came back for the food and good service! The Independent didn't disappoint. The service was excellent and the food was even better! We had the beef tips and a chicken dish I can't remember the name...of, they were all delicious. We had the leek and potato soup which was excellent, we had the leek and potato soup which was sublime, we had cocktails and beer all superb, but it was their delicious bangers we came for... so we took 3 orders home with us! Eat here you won't be sorry!More

They have excellent Mac and Cheese. I enjoyed the Croque Monsieur. Our favorite choice and would eat here every time we are in the area.

We came here around lunch time on a Saturday since none of us had ever been here and we wanted to give it a try! It looked like they have a vast brunch menu, but we were all more interested in lunch. Our server was...great, attentive and really chatted it up with our table, which was nice! We ordered the poutine for the table and I have to say, it was delicious. The fries were cooked perfectly and were thick enough to handle all of the gravy and cheese. I ended up having the deep fried chicken sandwich which I enjoyed. Nice and crispy, but juicy on the inside and the aioli that comes on top was good. Everyone enjoyed their meals here and I could easily see us coming back in the future when we are in the area!More
