The starters were fine but our main course - which both of us ordered at $35 a piece - was AWFUL. Seafood pasta drenched in oil / butter / gobs of capers. So rich our stomachs are upset. Scallops and swordfish in it both tasted...funny. We didn't complain because the staff was so nice.More

For many years we have celebrated special occasions at Barker Tavern and have always been pleased. Recently we were there to celebrate a special birthday. We were very disappointed with our evening. Although we had reservations and were seated promptly, service was very slow and...inattentive. Our waitress disappeared for long periods of time. We waited a long time for our drinks and even longer for our meals. My favorite dish, the lobster casserole, was nothing like I have had on previous occasions. I asked for light on the crumbs but received more crumbs than usual and very little lobster. The other meals were satisfactory, but the service and my birthday meal were disappointing. I have always given Barker Tavern a five star rating in the past, but our recent experience was nothing like our previous visits.More

My brother-in-law declared the Beef Tournedos the best he’d ever had (and he is picky.) My hubby loved the Mediterranean swordfish (he is a swordfish fan and swordfish appears to a Barker Tavern specialty.) Clam Chowder was also excellent.

My boyfriend and I sat at the bar for lunch. I had swordfish for lunch. It was amazing. Cooked perfectly. The bartender, Robin, was friendly and engaging. The portions were perfect. If you’re in a rush, don’t go here. It took awhile for our entrees...to come out but we were didn’t need to be anywhere so it was fine. Honestly the food was worth the wait. My only other comment is that it was a little chilly in the bar area. When I go back, I’ll bring a shawl.More

We had a 6 PM reservation and were seated immediately. The staff are truly an exceptional group of talented professional individuals. Our party had two people with food allergies and the staff member who was our table server was well-versed in every menu item that...could cause a problem for those people . Every appetizer was presented beautifully and arrived well in advance of our meals. Each meal arrived hot off the line and was presented with eye appeal which only made the enjoyment of eating each meal more enjoyable. I had the 16oz center-cut swordfish, a signature menu item, broiled with twice baked potato and spinach and it was incredibly delicious. Other items ordered were the rack of lamb and a special swordfish item which were also throughly enjoyed. Coffee and Indian pudding finished the meal. This restaurant is the only place I have been able to find a center-cut swordfish filet. I can’t imagine visiting Barker Tavern and not enjoying this menu item. The food is outstanding and the physical building is like stepping back into New England history. As a final note, the Executive Chef and kitchen staff are extraordinary as well. Food doesn’t arrive at a guests table without a truly talented back of the house caring staff. Kudos to Mike for loaning me his tie I really appreciated it. Looking forward to a return visit.More

Our first time at the Barker Tavern. Friends have been raving about the restaurant and their swordfish for years. I opted for the petite swordfish and one of my fellow diners opted for the signature swordfish entrée which is a much larger portion. Both dishes...were cooked perfectly, and were moist and delicious. The swordfish can prepared in several ways, I opted for grilled the other diner opted for Cajun. Other diners had the seafood casserole and enjoyed that dish. Shrimp cocktail, little necks, and oysters were enjoyed as appetizers and all were excellent. The shrimp were jumbo and the little necks and oysters were fresh. I was a little disappointed with the escargot appetizer. It was not what I expected, but I probably didn't read the description carefully. Desserts did not disappoint. Service was excellent. Suggest you make reservations if you wish to dine during peak hours. Parking not a problem. Overall, the meals are pricey, but worth it.More

The Barker is undoubtedly one of the finest restaurants in town. You can dine in a formal restaurant setting or in the "Back Bar" in more of a casual setting. You can get the same menu in either location. It's been said that you get...a smaller portion if your in the back bar, I haven't experienced that. The food is unbelievable. The bartender Colin is a extra treat, he can also "Whip Up" some of the best cocktails I have ever had. Cathy the other bar tender hasn't been there for a while, I think the two of them were inspired to be the best bartenders in the world. I think they succeeded. There may be a little wait if you try and go at peak times. Prices are fair for what you get. It's our favorite restaurant. When friends visit it's an automatic. Large parking lot out front. Excellent place.More
