Stopped here for lunch on a recent visit to Rockport. That day they had a steamed lobster special (3/$35) which was fresh and delicious. Served with melted butter and cracked. My wife had a lobster roll (served with chips). She was thoroughly satisfied. Chunks of lobster, lightly dressed in mayo, served on a bun. Another member of our group had the clam chowder, Delicious. The last 2 members of our group passed on lobster. Their loss! The only complaint was the restaurant was busy and there were no tables available. So we had to find alternative seating to eat our food. Will come back if in the area again. Definitely worth the stop.

It's a hole in the wall place, literally. You'll find it either by the line of people waiting to order, or by the smell of cooked lobster. There's a window to order and take away. That's it. We had two boiled lobsters and two fish cakes. Both were tasty and real New England staples. Nothing fancy, just really good fresh lobster, reasonable prices.

A very charming unassuming little ‘shack’, we ordered 3 lobsters for $50, we sat out back on picnic tables with a view of the harbour. The lobsters arrived super quick with melted butter on the side. To say they were scrumptious was an understatement. They were superbly cracked so very easy to eat. I think we may go back tomorrow for more of the same. The owner was very friendly, as were the other staff. The guy who took our order was very handsome, which was a bonus.

Walk-up counter service for take out, or seating out back with a no-frills view of the back of a harbor. 6 picnic tables shaded by umbrellas probably offer a better view at high tide. Very friendly, efficient, and enthusiastic staff. Limited menu offers steamed lobster and lobster rolls at market price, clam chowder, fish cakes, shrimp cocktail, and a few other items. Other establishments in the area advertise that they obtain their lobster from Roy Moore. The fish cakes were fried at their full service restaurant down the street and reheated to order. They were very flavorful and did not seem "reheated," served with a tartar sauce. The lobster roll was simply that: naked, fresh lobster meat on a plain sliced bun with a lettuce leaf, and served with potato chips. The lobster was delicious, and filled the bun to overflowing. However, there was no butter, no schmear of mayo, no embellishments of any kind. Had I known this I would have asked for some melted butter on the side. The clam chowder was piping hot, with a thick and creamy texture and tiny bits of clam and diced potato...but lacking any real flavor. I kept eating it and tried to discern...something...but all I tasted was a thickened broth soup. Lunch for 5 with tip $175. It was sort of disappointing.

As others have described this 'hole-in-the'wall place, it's: walk-up to the counter (on Rockport's main 'downtown' street), order your lobsters, chowders, soft drink, pay there, and by the time you walk down their narrow side alley to picnic tables in back, your order is coming out the back door for you on trays. Some reviewers have complained about this, but when many Rockport restaurants have limited hrs or limited available outdoor seating (due to shortages of help), this place was excellent! Plus, the front counter guys and the cooks who wander out back are great talkers & group picture takers. Our party of 6 enjoyed their availability, outdoor seating, and the speed of service. Lobsters (both rolls and steamed) were decent, and chowder was excellent.

Unfortunately we arrived well before Tom's opening hour so we missed out on what I have been told is some of the best, the freshest and the most reasonably priced lobster in all of New England. We did get a great photo of his colorful and rustic storefront but we were on a tight schedule and had to move on. Sorry Tom

Their boiled lobster is a good size and cooked to perfection! What more can I say?
Sharing a picnic table out back gave me a chance to meet some interesting and really nice folks. You can go sit down in a restaurant & eat anywhere…this is the authentic Rockport experience, right down to the trash-talking guys behind the counter. They’re a hoot… and when they say go out back and they’ll bring you your food, it’s amazing how fast that happens!

Everything about this place is superb. Excellent lobsters at a great value. They cooked and cracked our lobsters one day and we had them with drawn butter and cole slaw. Since we we were staying two doors down at the Tuna Wharf, we bought their lobster meat by the pound another day and prepared our own lobster rolls. Terrific service by owner and staff.

These guys are a lot of fun and they enjoy what they do. I love to go here and have chowder on their back section. I only wish they would make their chowder less thick and more hearty with clams. It is good but I have had better. But the experience makes up for this. We love the Neck and Rockport. My brother owned the restaurant at the end of the Neck, My Place by the Sea for many years. We know some of the shop owners personally and it is always fun t visit.

My last visit to Roy Moore Lobster Co was on August 1, 2013, and now, after 11 years, I returned on July 23, 2024. Why? Because it's that good and worth the special effort to make a dedicated trip to experience the great taste it left in my memory 11 years ago.
A few things have changed, but not much. The price for a whole lobster has doubled, but what hasn’t doubled or tripled in the past decade? The exceptional customer service, however, remains as stellar as I remembered.
A memorable instance from 11 years ago still stands out: I left without paying, and when I returned later that day to settle the bill, they kindly told me not to worry and that I could pay next time I visited. Well, the next time came after 11 years, and I made sure to pay this time even before being served the meal.
Roy Moore Lobster Co continues to impress with its outstanding service and delicious lobster. Keep up the fantastic work boys!

It's a hole in the wall. Rustic and almost dirty looking more like a bait shop so if you're a fancy pants go look elsewhere. The reason why I like it is because they have clean sea water under the shed circulating in the tanks so the lobster meat doesn't leach out the fresh flavor that you lose when in any artificial brine tank. Also, the local lobsters feed on many of the mussel and oyster beds and fishing catch excess throw-overs. Even the York or Alginquit Maine lobsters don't taste as good. There's a full, saltiness sweetness to the meat that you just can't find anywhere else. I've eaten lobsters everywhere, including my own from South Shore (hard shell) waters but it's not comparable. And they know how to steam em too so the fat doesn't melt off the muscle into a watery claw puddle. Ray Moore is the best. Only mine were close in taste when i brought em straight home from a good haul and steamed em with some sea weed. Take from an old salter, I know.

Just incredible! A real lobster shack in the middle of what is otherwise a pretty but highly touristy town! The lobsters were fresh off the boat - and I think we saw one of their boats docking and unloading when we came into town. According to one of the hard-working guys in the shack - they are definitely busy - they sell about 1000 pounds of lobster a day and have six lobster boats supplying them. We took four lobsters back to the picnic bench area adjacent to the shack and enjoyed the atmosphere and of course the fresh taste. The line, which can be long, goes through pretty quickly - the shack is quite efficient in processing orders and getting those lobsters out to you. And of course, Rockport is full of photo opportunities, something to do after taking care of the lobster feast.

First the good. There are excellent views. The oysters are some of the best I have ever had, They have a buy 3 lobsters for $50. The lobsters were excellent. For the not so good, seating is hard to find. They don't have lobster crakers so you have to work to eat the bugs.

Located on a touristy strip of Rockport, we had the lobster roll and fries. The best thing about the lobster roll was that it was stuffed - more than the normal serving - with lobster. Perhaps the whole lobster they offer is better, but the taste of this lobster roll was no better, or worse, than any other we sampled in Maine.
