So this was my 2nd time out to Palmer just to visit this restaurant. The building sits on what was an old Railroad Station, most likely an Boston and Albany stop originally. The building has the fun location of having a crossing Railroad pattern just outside and is apparently fairly well used, abeit I have never seen a modern running engine through in my limited experience. There is however a beautiful Steam train right outside of restaurant, and a beautiful coach car that one of these days I will be able to get into. But that is just the cite. The food on both occasions has been superb, I got the famous 1/2 lb burger with onion rings. The portion of onion rings could have been bigger, but that is a minor complaint as the main part of the meal, the burger was massive. Burger was cooked exactly to my asking (medium/rare, closer to rare) and was flavorful. My wife got the loaded mac and cheese with grilled chicken and was quite happy, and finished off her meal with a reeces pie. She also came away with a lovely beverage, the locomotion, and our waitress was kind enough to share the parts per, so I can add to my mixology knowledge. This place is a must visit if in the southern central Massachusetts area.

And the ambiance is delightful..........but sadly no trains went by when we were there. However, we had a wonderful dinner, after switching tables because of wobbles. The waitress was quit agreeable to the switch, then later fixed the wobbler so others could enjoy the window seats. As for the food, DELICIOUS. My husband was served one of the best cuts of prime rib he has ever been served anywhere, and I tried Limencello haddock with sun dried tomatoes and artichokes. FANTASTIC. I ate it all, and I NEVER clean my plate!! Good waitress, Christine, good service and excellent food. Won't wait as long next time before returning. Definitely worth visiting for the history and the restoration. And the food!

We had spent time at the Brimfield Flea Market and were on our way home and hungry and remembered this place as being great. Unfortunately, today it was not so good. I orderedk the sirloin tips, medium rare and while they were cooked as ordered, they were very salty and tough. I ordered the onion rings (which were a $2 up charge) and they weren’t crisp at all and also were kind of bland tasting. The broccoli side salad was tasty and somewhat refreshing. My husband had one of the daily specials which was supposed to be a blackened swordfish in a tomato based sauce. While he said it was tasty, it was a small, thin slice of swordfish. The rice pilaf appeared to be Nesr East Original rice Pilaf. We also ordered the bread pudding to go and asked them to skip the whip cream and put the rum sauce on the side. She brought the pudding in two containers so we asked if the sauce was on the pudding and she said yes. We told her we had wanted it on the side and she said it wasn’t a problem snd replaced the order. She was a very cheery, knowledgeable snd attentive waitress. Later, we were ready for dessert and could not believe the volume of sauce they gave is snd we were thankful we had her replace the first ones. The pudding wasn’t as creamy as we remembered nor did it have as much cinnamon. My husband had a draft beer snd I had a seltzer with Tito’s. Our bill came to $87 and some change, a little pricey for the level of food we were served.

We are sorry to have disappointed you and appreciate your feed back. We don't serve Sirloin Steak Tips. Our steak tips are from the Teres Major which is the 2nd most tender cut from a cow (after the tenderloin of course). Our onion rings are a prebreaded beer onion ring. The Swordfish special was a 10 oz loin and our rice pilaf is Near East Rice Pilaf. It happens often when people ask for the sauce on the side for the whiskey bread pudding, the dessert person does give extra as the sauce tends to stick to the bowl when pouring over your dessert. With regard to the pudding we do not use cinnamon.

I have always wanted to have a nice Sunday dinner here so did so this past . Treated my husband , son and myself . First I must say , it can be hard knowing the difference between great and not . My husband is a chef , my son has been in the restaurant for the last 20 years and is very good at what he does . Myself has had over 40 years of experience . That being said , believe me when I tell you , our meal was a huge disappointment . We started with a clam chowder . It was good as from past experience and many a food show , we believe it was a Sysco product . Therefore it was good . The salads that came with our meals were tasty but not professionally made as they had huge hunks of onion in them . The steak tips although tender , all the tips were various sizes so when ordered med-rare , some were so , some were well and some were raw . Also the peppers , onions and mushrooms looked like they were cooked days ahead and seemed bad and completely drenched in salt .The mashed potato was discolored and dry around the edges like they had been sitting in a steam table for hours and they had just opened . My two stuffed lobster tails ($45,00) had bread stuffing no haddock or scallops like the waitress said and the stuffing was so salty it was inedible . The cold corn vegetable was a joke . Horrible ! My son's sirloin steak ordered medium came out raw so had to send it back . They gave him the same piece back instead of replacing it and it came with fries all for a whopping $39.00 . After waiting 20 minutes to get it replaced as we were not able to flag down our waitress or hostess as it seemed they were all running around with their heads cut off . And this was at 4:30 in the afternoon . All said and done , bill was $154.00 not including tip . After reaching out to the owners by email (no response) then placing a review on their facebook page , only to have it removed , we are done with this place . Yes it's a beautiful building and I wanted my son to experience it but shame , it just wasn't worth it . No value and just all around bad food and lack of respect for the customer to even take the time to acknowledge the problems . Apparently they have all high school kids working in the kitchen with no professional on site to train or over look things . Shame on the owners for taking such advantage of peoples hard earned money that decide to treat themselves to a special day only to have it ruined due to lack of caring and training and how about spend some money on someone who knows the business and can teach and train a staff . That goes for the dining room as well . As sweet as our waitress was , she definitely lacked training big time . I have gone here many times over the years and this was a last for us .

There’s a lot to like about this restaurant. It’s housed in a large old train depot and family owned with a number of dishes that I think would be good on a normal weekend. Their waitstaffers were always smiling and never stopped moving... but... We were there on the night after Valentines Day. Oops. I tried calling at 4pm for a 6pm reservation. That took fifteen minutes. We were seated at 6:10 and didn’t get our meal until 7:30. That was lots of time to enjoy the architecture and occasional trains running by from DC to Montreal. I ordered the Limonetta (haddock in lemon sauce over artichoke). The sauce was terrific, but not really hot and the artichoke was tough as truck tires. I had the squash as a side and they seemed to have missed any seasoning I’ll give them another shot and the ambiance was great, but they missed the mark on this night. They knew it, too, because they were comping everyone’s desserts

We were really enthused about trying this place, and after five hours in the car traveling were looking forward to a good meal. Each time we ordered something in the menu, the waitress came back with a rueful look on her face. "We are out of the turkey dinner." "The soup of the day wasn't cooked properly and I don't want to serve it to you." Finally, she told us that the special salad of the day wasn't available with the special dressing created for it. The staff were nice but they had no product behind them. Our third and fourth choice foods (happily still available) were not great--a Reuben and a hamburger. Bread pudding dessert was very dry, crumbled bread in a cup. If you come here to enjoy the atmosphere snd architecture and very kind staff and just have a drink you'll have a nice time, but don't come for the food or after long travel. I am sure the problems are temporary but we spent a lit of money on a reuben, a hamburger, and a salad with dry tasteless "local orchard peaches"and sad, wilted romaine.

Four of us stopped in at 4:40 on a Friday evening with reservations. Three of us had the Turkey Dinner and the 4th had the fish. All 4 were great. We took some of the turkey home for a 2nd meal. The waitress was terrific. With a drink before hand and a split dessert after, the bill with T&T came to $90.00.

We were passing through Palmer, Ma. and decided on dinner at The Steaming Tender Restaurant on Saturday night. We made our reservations ahead of time. We were quickly seated, our drink and dinner orders taken, and within 15 minutes, our entree's were on the table. The food was outstanding, the prices reasonable, and Christy our waitress was "above and beyond" with our needs during the dinner meal. We will definitely be back for dinner next time we are in the area.

We were there as 2 couples plus a single . We had heard through a person who lives in the area that this was a great place so we went as we were in the area to attend other business. It is a converted train station Depot and it appears that trains still pass by . Very rustic and well appointed with the old and new fixtures and train type exhibits. Quite a history documented on the menu . 3 out of the 5 people ordered baked haddock with rice &corn or potatoes and coleslaw or some other vegetable, 1 person ordered blackened ribs and 1 person ordered a pulled pork sandwich with cheese and & mashed potatoes. All were satisfied . The menu was large in scope so you had your pick . It had a Good range of sandwiches as well . 2 minor complaints were the haddock was brought to the table only warm and not hot and the mashed potatoes needed seasoning as they were bland. We will go back and sample more of the menu now that we have found out about the place and found out where it was as it was off the beaten path . Lastly, The bar looked good as well we just sat at a table. The menu had a good variety of meat dinners as well.

We had some excellent dishes and tue staff is great! Short walk or drive from the Trainmaster Inn (same owners) and currently open Thursday-Sunday. We checked into our room after having dinner first and learned that guests of the Inn receive priority seating and free dessert and we took advantage of that another night. Definitely worth choosing for a nice but casual dinner when in the area!

Loved this vintage train station!! So unique and a fun place to visit!! Nicely maintained with all the historic pictures and atmosphere. The trains go by also which adds to the charm of the place. The food was RC and reasonably priced. Great choices on the menu too. There were 4 of us and we had fried fish that was lightly battered and flaky, not greasy all. The others had ribs that were tender and tasty. Veg and potatoes and nice fresh salad and rolls. Everything was very good. The servers were friendly and welcoming. Take time to look at the old photos and vintage artifacts. It's a great piece of history!!

. . .great photo ops, amazing service and overall just a good time. If you love trains this is your place. It is lovingly restored and beautiful. Ask to see the train car. The food is excellent. I had A fried Haddock with cream sauce, artichoke and sun dried tomatoes. I had rice pilaf with it and it was amazing. My husband had the steak special (because we wanted to try both) and it was also amazing. I truly don’t know which I would pick if I could only have one. The kids meals were excellent, offering homemade Mac and cheese and Kraft Mac and cheese (as well as other yummy options) but our kiddos got one Kraft and one homemade as well as lovely drinks that actually had fruit them. This restauranteur gets it. Our kids now want to live here !?! We had a lovely experience here. If you are a train person look for the caboose on Airbnb, we are staying at the caboose and for our kids, this is a highlight. Whyever you are in town, I highly recommend you eat here!

Tonight after a long absence I, my wife and daughter and granddaughter visited the Steaming Tender with a 2 hour trip to the north shore of Mass, we waited for a table and were not disappointed. Each of us ordered separate but truely different entrees. I will only speak to what I had and how it was. First a long Island iced tea. I haven't had one this good since I don't know when it was large luscious and potent.period. My entree was aromatico Parmigiano and it was Scrumptious . Chicken creamy parmesan sauce bow tie pasta and parsley . This was a very splendid outing our waitstaff was erricient and pleasant.. I will be going back again soon. Mr Q 129 Trip Advisor.

Train buffs will want to visit this restaurant in what was once the 5th largest train station in America, but there is something here for everyone. Let's start with the warm, friendly welcome you'll get from members the Lamothe family who saw the potential in a run-down wreck of a building and spent a dozen years restoring it. As you work your way through the long, varied menu, don't forget to look up and about to enjoy the beauty and authenticity of the restored spaces, especially the original ceiling that soars above you, having been preserved because for decades it remained hidden behind a modern low ceiling. The woodwork and colors are just beautiful. Moving on to the menu, the dinner fare includes dishes, particularly home-style ones, not generally seen in restaurants of this size. In keeping with the railroad theme, you can treat yourself to things like Hopper Car Haddock, Steaming Tenderloin with Horseradish, or the Hobo Bowl, with its layers of mashed potatoes, baked beans, and pulled pork topped by coleslaw. There are many daily specials, too. Desserts are to die for. We dined here twice, once in the main dining room and once in the alcove off the bar, which is cozier, making it easier to see the wonderful collection of railroad memorabilia. Both places have trackside views and, if you come for dinner, there is a good chance you'll see a train whizzing by. On the CSX (formerly Boston & Albany) track running alongside the main dining area, we were treated to Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited running between Chicago and Boston and passing through Palmer at about 6:20 pm. It was so close we could feel the rumbling. On the bar side dining area, you'll find the New England Central (formerly Central Vermont) tracks, with freight trains rolling by pretty regularly. We saw one when we returned for dinner on our second and last night in Palmer. Our dining experience here at the Steaming Tender was A+. We've got it on the list for a return trip as time permits. Highly Recommended.

A converted train depot now serving as restaurant we had heard others talk about. We arrived at opening and were seated immediately and orders taken shorly after. A wonderful waitress told us the specials and a littlehistory of the Restaurant. The room is a good size area and it was filling rapidly and within 1/2 hr probably 15 or so tables filled. Our meals Lobster mac/cheese and haddock were very good and fairly priced.we enjoyed our lunch and will someday come back.
