Excellent food! Placinte cu visina and Placinte cu branza are great. Will be back again. The best Eastern European food in New England!

Excellent, authentic food. Eggplant caviar was my favorite. Everything was very fresh. Service was friendly and unpretentious, as it should be in a family place.
Went with a date to Moldova because I has seen good reviews but we were both disappointed with the food. My main course was an oily pile of meat and potatoes with a few strands of pickled red onion top. It became a monotomous task...just to get through it. There was little variety in the flavor, the only brightness was brought by the onions which ran out quickly. The TVs in the restaurant also bever stopped showing promos for the country of Moldova. It made me wonder if the restaurant was some weird guerilla advertising for the country's tourism business Perhaps I ordered the wrong item but I do was not satisfied with my meal at Moldova and do not intend to returnMore
This was our first chance to experience the cuisine of Moldova - the selections we chose were great comfort food for a cold winter night! The potato dumplings and pan fried cheese filled bread we chose were great appetizers, then we shared the stuffed cabbage...and grape leaves, served WARM, which was also nice. Had not before had wines from Moldova either - had a nice, bright, fruity varietal that was new to us. The ambiance is a bit plain - would love it if it were more representative of Moldova to enhance the experience. At our request, they switched the music to Moldovan (rather than a station streaming American “Christmas” music which seemed bizarre while eating this delicious unusual fare). Highly recommend!More
The Moldova Restaurant in Newton is the first eastern European restaurant we’ve visited in the Boston area. Eastern European food seems to be mix of Russian and Greek. We had a very nice pie with potatoes to start – a phyllo dough pie stuffed with...potatoes and feta cheese. My wife had a glass of Moldavian wine – a drinkable light red similar to a pinot noir. Service was friendly and quick. Food came out quickly. Restaurant ambiance was comfortable with photos of Moldova (we assumed) on the walls. I had a dish with grilled minced beef and pork rolls, served with fresh cabbage salad, baked potato topped with sour cream and scallions, pickles and homemade hot sauce on the side. The hot sauce was more tangy than hot, but I liked it a lot. My wife had the roasted lamb, stewed in special wine and rosemary sauce, served with roasted vegetables. Both were very good. Both are on the bland side of the flavor spectrum, but we enjoyed them none the less. I would classified Moldavian cuisine as comfort food. If you are looking for something delicious and different, we highly recommend the Moldova Restaurant in Newton.More
Stumbled across this place through Groupon. Excellent food and lovely space. I had never tried Moldovian food before, and it distinguished itself from other Eastern European food with the high quality savory pastries. Also, the apple dessert was the best dish I have eaten anywhere...in years. If they are hosting a wine tasting with accompanying dishes make sure to get tickets. It is an excellent value and enjoyable night out.More
Our recent dinner at Moldova was our second meal there and everything was delicious as before. The room is cozy and the staff is friendly, and the cheese pie and polenta are amazing. This is our new go to spot for a special meal.
The restaurant as such is good –friendly and helpful staff, quick cooking, reasonable prices, and quiet environment. I have been there twice and both times were completely satisfied. I specifically like Placinta cu Brinza si Verdeata (traditional pan fried pie with cow cheese and herbs)...and Friptura de Miel (Roasted lamb, stewed in special wine and rosemary sauce, served with roasted vegetables). The only thing I really missed was “Buket Moldavii”, very famous sweet vermouth style wine. It is most likely not imported to the States but I wish it were. Before going to the restaurant you may want to check Groupon, they sometimes have ones like $24 for $40 I used last time. And just FYI, if you have never had a chance to try Moldavian cuisine – it is sort of country style, rather nutritious than delicious, rather fresh than spicy, and rather affordable than fashion.More
My wife and I wanted to like this place, we really did. We found ourselves kidless on a Saturday night and went there last minute. We didn't have reservations so they sat us in the middle of the side room in the flow of traffic...which was okay. We ordered drinks and this is where things get a strained. We waited about 15 minutes for our drinks and when I asked about them, the waitress gave me this frowny faced agitated response like, "It's coming, it's coming." Then she dropped off the drinks, got our appetizer, served that and while we were about one minute into checking out our appetizer, she dropped our entrees off without a care in the world. So my wife and I are stuck looking at this table full of food and wondering why the rush. Things didn't get easier from there. The dishes were snatched up the second we were finished and then she promptly asked us if we wanted dessert as if to make a point that she wanted to rush us out. For an appetizer, we ordered one of those small pies which was good. The lamb was delicious and the chicken was good but not great. After the whole thing was said and done, we found ourselves in the car wondering why we didn't go out for Indian. This was a one and done for us and it has nothing to do with the food. This was service served up with an attitude!More
We were in Newton for a dress fitting and decided to do lunch. The Moldova was right by the parking lot so we walked. They have a lunch special for 10.99 at this time consisting of chicken soup ( excellent)or salad ( today was a...cabbage slaw that was great). The entree choices were either chicken, pork or one of several traditional pies. My wife chose the chicken with mashed potatoes that was excellent. I chose the cow cheese pie. I had never had this before so I was quite surprised to taste the subtle savory flavor of these filing. It was so good I am looking for recipes to try this dish at home.More
