We are visiting Newton...family time. Boston traffic is so annoying, so we decided to have sushi at home. This sushi bar is close to our home (5 min walk). This sushi bar is for take out only. It is run by a cute elderly couple. (Mom&Pop Shop). Don't pay attention to what the place looks like inside and out. The... More

This is a hidden jewel. Located in a sleepy downtow suburb, this is one of the best sushi places around. Don't waste your time trying to find a good sushi place. Just go here.

The sushi is ok - very large and filling rolls. I showed up a bit late so my sushi isn't as fresh as it could be but I've definitely had better. The gyoza however - so good! Bit pricey for what it is too if you ask me. I got the crunchy tuna roll (HUGE!) and the shrimp tempura roll... More

We don't get takeout that often, but Takara will change that. The Sake-Don couldn't have been fresher, and it came in very large slices. The Udon noodle soup was also excellent, a simple, flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles. While the Newton Maki didn't stand out (it was fine) the Unagi Avocado was huge and just full of flavor. Be... More

Takara Sushi is great - fresh, authentic and prepared for take out only. The owners are very nice, and recognize repeat customers. There is often a long wait on weekends, so be sure to call 30 - 40 minutes before you'd like to pick up. Only request I would make is please provide more soy sauce!

Just tried Takara for first time. Food was great. Pick up only, waited about 30 minutes for food, but well worth wait. Generous portions and fresh fish!!

I see another sushi restaurant is opening around the corner. I am a loyal Takara customer for many years and will remain so. Always fresh and delicious. We are very lucky to be able to walk to this little gem that otherwise we would be willing to drive through lousy traffic for the dependable reward of their sumptuous delights. Do... More

You have to give credit to Takara, their portions are extremely generous. The sashimi is thick... and I mean THICK but therein lies the problem. It's like a big slab of fish and great sushi is all about balance. It's really good value and good quality but the overall experience was a bit disappointing.

The sushi is phenomenal. They use large pieces of very fresh fish, just enough rice, and everything is on time and perfect. It's dinner every friday! But don't tell anyone - because I already have to call well in advance.

Tried them for the first time. The rolls are great!!! Ingredients are fresh, portions are larger than average, and they taste delicious. If you want good sushi takeout reasonably priced, w/o any glamour - this is a place to go to!!! Excellent!!! Had to wait for an hour, but that was well worth it!!!
