good reputation, crowded when we got there; right downtown. i found the help to be good, friendly servicve even though they were super busy. Beer selection and food was solid. I had irish curry which was actually terrific and a great looking dish. Happily there are millions of great places out there esp. in the coastal new england area but... More

Earlier this week, some work colleagues and I were looking for some lunch/comfort food to combat the cold and wind downtown Newburyport. The Port Tavern has a really cool vibe. One colleague likened it to a place in New Orleans that he enjoyed last month. We started with poutine (ok but not great ~ all the gravy was at the... More

I visited the Port Tavern last week for a nice dinner with my husband. In the past the food there has been delicious and the service fine. On that particuliar night we ordered the French Onion Soup (tasteless), the Bangers (Amazing!) and the Shepherds Pie. I was sorely disappointed! To start the French Onion soup did not taste like onions.... More

Before walking in I was just hoping for a nice pub atmosphere with at decent burger. Expectations exceeded when we walked in. Very comfy vibe (we sat at the bar), lots of food choices (we got the chicken parm sandwich - very good, the crab cakes - very nice, and the chili - yummy). Service was good, they made a... More

Warm and cozy on a January Saturday! Great burgers and draught beer choices were what we wanted and the Port Tavern delivered. Our waitstaff was very friendly and efficient. A nice place, glad we tried it and we will return.

Don't go here if you want to talk -- noise is the major drawback so ask to be seated way in the back or outside. BUT the food is good and mid-priced, lots of different beers -- not gourmet but all your basics and reasonable service. It's up State Street in downtown Newburyport - three-minute walk on the west side... More

Good food and drink. It's up State Street so it does not get a lot of tourist. A hidden gem for date night and to hang out. Plenty of TV to watch games.

Saturday night -- prompt service, not too noisy and hot, good food. What's not to like? The small salads are more than ample ( the Tricolore was really tasty). Go with the solids -- shepherd's pie, beef stew and fish and chips were all hits at our table and eagerly shared. The onion soup was nothing special. Onion rings were... More

It's a pub out front, sidewalk seating in the warm weather. I like the menu, it's got the sports going at the bar, but you can sit away from it pretty easily if you want less action. Go.
