Sometimes you find a gem....great food, great drinks, great service, all in a funky little bar where things are actually affordable in a city where a thirty dollar plus entrée is the norm. Gerry Rath and Jim Duratti ran the Gallery and Grille in the same location, but had to close 12 years ago. They're back in the kitchen, getting... More

While wandering around Newburyport on a warm February day, we happened upon The Thirsty Whale. The daily specials board advertised Fish & Chips which were perfect for the warm weather. The Fish & Chips were light, flaky, and delicious. It wasn't heavy or greasy at all. The restaurant itself is small and dark, but it only added to the ambiance... More

The Whale is a great place to play darts & hang out with friends in Newburyport. The bartenders are wonderful as is the rest of the staff. They always make us feel right at home.

This place should be put into a different catagory. Its pub food not a sit down and eat for three hours kind of place. The staff are friendly and the locals who are everywhere here are more than helpful with anything you might need. Before you go to that overpriced nwbpt restaurant and basically pay for there decor not the... More

My girlfriend and I came for lunch and got a fried haddock sandwich and lobster roll. The best part of the visit was the waitress who was very friendly and attentive, and the sweet potato fries that came as a side. They may actually be the BEST SWEET POTATO FRIES I've ever had. Unfortunately the rest of the meal was... More

This place was really bursting at the seams with fun! Only stopped in here for drinks. Drinks were good and bar was packed. There are tables also to sit at and you can order food.

Popped in for lunch while visiting Newburyport for the first time in a long while (will definitely be back to that city soon, nice changes have taken place). Small place, simple menu, not expensive, service was fine, food Ok, had a nice IPA from the local brewery. Got the impression the bar was probably the focal point and not the... More

I'm going with 'fair' because the menu is fairly limited. I had fish and chips and while the fish wasn't all that great the fries were perfect. The service was good and it was a good location. Two of the people dining with us ordered the same meal, but they came out look very differently. Just didn't seem really consistent.... More

Excellent experience after a day of shopping. Everyone was so nice. Music was good. bartender was excellent with drinks and service. Plenty of seating in the side room and at the bar. Window seating to people watch right in the center of town. Lot of history with locals and memorabilia.
