Normally I really enjoy this restaurant, especially in the summer when you can sit on the outside deck along the Merrimack River. Today, the food was good, the Bloody Mary was excellent, but service was slow and the waitress less than cordial.

Got off the catamaran tour right next to the restaurant. We were starving and went in for lunch. Food was good and service was excellent.

This restaurant is a destination location sitting right on the river and adjacent to the lovely river walkway. Food is good, menu is not extensive but it's a good choice for us when we have out of town guests. It's really is all about the location...it's easy to park, dine, stroll along the water then rest on one of the... More

We had lunch outside on the deck, near the bar. What a pretty setting. Staff was friendly and efficient. I had a fish sandwich w fries and it was cooked and seasoned very well. All other food was good as well. Would definately go back.

Friday night was busy, and we were glad we made reservations! One of the best things about our experience was that we were not rushed! Our table was inside as that is the only area that accepts reservations. That was perfect because it was too hot outside for me;) We sat at a large booth which still had a beautiful... More

Great atmosphere, but just an average meal that is somewhat overpriced. My wife had the fish sandwich which was very bland. My son had a pasta dish that was decent. The salad was mediocre at best.

lovely place, very busy yet accommodating, but I foolishly ordered the lobster croissant which tasted like it had a touch of a cleaning agent, more likely a tarragon OD, also possibly undercooked or maybe a shedder. companion's swordfish special was well prepared and delicious .p.s. also beware the cucumber/mint martini- undrink-ably bad combo. MY choices bombed at this place but... More

If you are looking for a nice view for a romantic or casual dinner go for it. The food here is just ok. (Average). Our appetizer was perfect. But the main entrée was not cooked right (asked for a medium burger, got a well done one) the service was great. Our waitress was kind and attentive answering all the questions... More

The only thing special for me about the Black Cow is the view. We have lived in Newburyport for over a decade and this place has not changed at ALL. It is filled with tourists, which isn't a bad thing but wow...does it need some updating. The menu along with the mauve toilets and sinks have not changed in fifteen... More

Excellent place to enjoy the harbor for lunch. Food was excellent and very fresh. Service was also very good. My husband had the salmon with potatoes and love it. I went for the haricot & greens salad with chicken. Very satisfied with our meals.
