My family chose the Balck Cow for my birthday dinner. My birthday coincides with the Newburyport Half-Marathon so we celebrate in Newburyport. The restaurant is walking distance from the Clark Currier Inn. Simply stated the service was excellent and the food was delicious. Although the restaurant was large and crowded we enjoyed our interactions in relative privacy. At the end... More

As it was pouring rain we decided to take a drive north out of Gloucester and hit the antique shops. Well, suddenly it was lunch time and viola there was the Black Cow. Perfect! Crowded but we only had to wait a few short minutes for a great window view table. Friend had the nachos and said they were great... More

Saturday afternoon lunch was pretty quiet, but atmosphere was nice. The food was disappointing though--a fried tomato dish that sounded delicious and creative was anything but. Fried garden tomatoes (not green) were mushy, unappetizing. and left largely uneaten. It would have been better as a traditional caprese salad. A butternut risotto was over-salted and still pretty bland. The clam chowder... More

Decided to take a day trip to Newburyport (a short 76 mi., 1-way drive) and stopped for lunch at the Black Cow Tap & Grill. The restaurant is located right on the waterfront. There is limited parking in front of the restaurant, and also an adjacent lot (pay by kiosk, approx. $1/hr.) We were seated promptly at lunchtime as it... More

We went to Newburyport on a limb and happened to stumble in here when there was some sort of town festival. We went to the Black Cow and asked for a seat outside which they explained would be a while but they would call us via cell phone when the table was close. We took the time to walk the... More

Went there on Friday night and got a nice window table. Very friendly and efficient service. The food was wonderful - best/freshest octopus we ever had and the steaks were top notch as well. Excellent value for your money.

During my first trip to the area, my sister and I stopped for lunch at the Black Cow. We thoroughly enjoyed our fish and chips meals as well as the beautiful view from our table. Add in the friendly, attentive service and you have yourself a perfect experience!

This was my first visit to The Black Cow and I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is right on the ocean with a beautiful outside seating area. I had the Clam chowder followed by the walnut and goat cheese salad. This place is a must for anyone in the area

We sat out on the patio and it was a beautiful view of the harbor! The special at lunch was salmon and two people ordered it! Wish I did too! It was a large piece of salmon, that was delicious, according to my friends!! Very reasonable! Everyone loved their meals!!! I would return there in a heartbeat!!!
