Went there alone for lunch recently. Waiter did not serve chips and salsa- thought it was standard with every meal. Ordered the carnitas. Refried beans were old and dried out, rice not particularly seasoned very well, carnitas not shredded (just big chunks of pork), and not particularly fresh tasting. This is not the fresh innovative cuisine I was used to... More

The inside is small, not very comfortable. It was a beautiful day so we ate outside,Ned enjoyed people watching. The chips and salsa was very good served warm. Waitress was informative explained the menu,as we were not familiar with Mexican food. Ordered the tacos and enjoyed them.

Food and service was very good but be prepared it's a small place and isn't the place for large parties. We had five in our group and we were swished closed together. Service was really good for a Friday night.

A great little Mexican restaurant in the heart of Newburyport. The starter chips and salsa are warm and crunchy! Salsa has a little kick to it! The waitstaff is friendly and knowledgable. She was kind enough to direct me to the "right" margarita based on my needs ( I have to admit, I went in for a mojito and they... More

This was one of the very first Mexican restaurants serving truly authentic Mexican food as you would expect to get in Mexico. Margaritas and draft beers are amazing. Probably 30+ tequilas in bar. Food always fresh and large portions. The owner is often there and she is very attentive to her customers. Great staff bartenders etc.

As someone who rarely seeks out Mexican food because I am not a huge fan, Agave is a rare place that I crave whenever we are in Newburyport MA. The guacamole is prepared table side and served with freshly fried tortilla chips. They also offer unlimited chips and salsa for 1.50, which is a great deal. They have plenty of... More

Food and service are very good, but the crowds can be intimidating, and the "scene" can feel oppressive at times, so we avoid it even though we would love to go more often. We would love to take our children there, but it is not really family-friendly - it seems to cater to a childless clientele that likes to pose... More

The food left a lot to be desired. Certainly not authentic and the portions were small. The tacos with steak were bland and did not feature full fixings .ike sour cream guacamole and salsa. The drinks are the only reason this gets two stars. Margaritas were good and good frozen drink offering. The service was also very slow and it... More

Excellent margaritas. Food was good. Service was disappointing. The bartender was very business-like and did not make us feel welcome. We had the same bartender with the same result on a previous visit. The shrimp fajita was very good as were the chips and salsa. The fajita included fresh mango - delicious.
