First thing I noticed was the eclectic mix of people there: older, younger, families... We could hear live music coming from (I think) downstairs. Always a nice option to find a place with live music. It was very busy the night we went but they got people seated fairly quickly. The bar had a nice vibe to it. LARGE selection... More

Great casual place in downtown Newburyport. Very good beer selection and dollar oysters at the bar every day. Food is typical pub fare, but well done. If the downstairs is crowded, try the upstairs bar.

This small, charming town near the mouth of the Merrimack River was once a maritime powerhouse that played host to a who's-who of early American luminaries. The Grog, with its cozy brick and dark hardwood surroundings, including a very lively bar, still manages to convey that mystique. And yet it is also quite up-to-date in its menu choices, and family... More

If you like old style New England classic environment, this is the place. Food is okay, a bit lackluster but well prepared, and service is efficient.

I can't visit without making at least one or two stops at the grog. They have extensive beers on tap which has something for everyone in my large family! It's fun to try the diverse selection of beer. Hands down the best clam chowder I have ever had. I have been impressed with everything I have ordered there. Love just... More

I have been wanting to go back here for many years - I remembered the clam chowder being so good. Not anymore, very watery, what clams that were in there were probably from a can. I was so disappointed, service was not that great either. The place is nice and sandwiches are good. Just don't get the clam chowder so... More

We met some friends with n turn to enjoy invitation night. We started with some drinks and apps at the grog. I lived in nbpt years ago and enjoyed the Grog then it's nice to see that some things haven't changed. There is a fear pub atmosphere and the menu has something fur everyone. We stick with apps. Fondue, poutine... More

My wife had a salad with grilled chicken and I had a monte cristo. Both items were outstanding. The Grog has been a staple in Newburyport for over 35 years. The waitress was pleasant and efficient and it is a nice relaxing atmosphere. Last but not least the prices are reasonable.

This funky little basement bar offers live bands Friday - Sunday I believe. Fun spot for dancing ! There is also a restaurant bar upstairs which I personally have not had the opportunity to try. My friends and I usually go down to the basement bar for the entertainment. This is one of the few places with regular live bands... More
