Shaanxi Gourmet is my favorite restaurant in Metrowest! Such kind, prompt service and delicious food. We get the cold skin noodles, green beans, tofu in homestyle sauce, and dumplings. I'd go every day if I could! Feels very safe during COVID.

Not the "Americanized" version of Chinese food. My girlfriend's mom is from Xi'an, and so she was thrilled to find a place that serves authentic Chinese food in the Boston area (Not an egg roll in the house)! The fare is from Shaanxi province, hence the name. Dinner was amazing and we sampled many dishes. My girlfriend picked a few, and the nice young server made several suggestions as well. We started with some appetizers like Lazhi Style Chinese Burger (made from ground pork on a biscuit type of bread), Crispy Fried Dumplings, Lamb Skewers, and Roast beef w. scallion pancake. For our entrees, we had Shaanxi Three Delicacies, Eggplant in Brown Sauce, and a couple of other dishes that I can not remember the name of. I will post photos. BOTTOM LINE: If you want to taste authentic food from Shaanxi, this is a great place to go.

I was searching for a quick lunch on a stretch of road that seemed to have only residential, business, and a Subway or Dominoes. Being very hungry but also unwilling to eat chain food, I found Shaanxi. I couldn't really make heads or tails of the menu - so asked for spicy pork. After seeing a bunch of them come out of the kitchen, I asked for what they call 'Chinese hamburger'. Wonderful, awesome, delicious, quick, spicy lunch. Heavy on the garlic and peppers in the pork dish. Chinese hamburger (pulled pork on a steamed bun) was amazing. Don't be intimidated by the exterior - grab a meal you won't forget.

To be honest, I've driven by this place for years. I don't know how long it has even been on Route 9 in Natick; I noticed it a few years ago, but it didn't seem anything special. How wrong I was! This offers unusual dishes and good, solid service. Most everything is on the spicy side as it should be considering the part of China represented by the menu. Whole fish was excellent, great chicken, but next time I'd try the home made noodles. I went with my mom who enjoyed the experience very much. Really unusual beverages as well: a salt plum drink that was so yummy!

I have been four years in Shannxi. 大盘鸡拌面here is really good. Just like what I ate in Shannxi China. Size for two people. You can choose the level of spicy. I recommend additional noodles in it

We were we very pleasantly surprised to find a Chinese restaurant serving authentic Chinese food (no Suburban Chinese here) in a strip mall on the outbound side of Route 9, but it's true! We must visit again to delve deeper into their menu. The only problem is no liquor license and no BYOB. No wonder there is so much takeout here.......

Running into this problem more than I want to- I REALLY think 5 should be used for a restaurant that you daydream about at least once a week (reviewed my 5-star reviews, and aside from several restaurants that have closed, and a few local sentimental choices, I mostly stick with that philosophy). So pretend it's a 4.5. My intermediate (and bottom- sometimes "Terrible' doesn't do justice) rankings: 4.5 Really really good 3.5 Better than average 2.5 OK in a pinch 0 Get sandwich materials, a drink, and a bag of chips at the supermarket Tried to go here last year when I was just down the road, but there had been a plumbing mishap, and we ended up at the Framingham Beerworks (didn't review it, but it would be a 3 since there is no 2.5). Wounded Warrior charity game in Westwood (note to other geography-impaired: Westwood is NOT Westford, and is in fact next to Norwood, NOT just a few miles south in I-495...) put us on 128 mid-afternoon in heavy traffic, so it was clear the food gods wanted us to detour on Rte 9 (Worcester St. in Natick). Shaanxi province is, with the exception of the Terracotta Army in Xi'an, not as well known as many other destinations in China, but the cuisine is big on thick noodles and lamb, two of the most important food groups. The wife was skeptical, but is more or less a convert now. I won't be able to convince her to make a pilgrimage there, but I don't think it will be hard to persuade her to make a reasonable detour if we happen to be in Middlesex county during any time that can be reasonably construed as mealtime (11:00-3:30 for lunch, 4:00-9:00 for dinner, and the gap from 3:30 to 4:00 is negotiable). (Mid-review update: we might go again tomorrow, as a friend's son is in a soccer tournament in a neighboring town, and the wife was pumped at the idea of eating here. Might get a 5 after all...) Lamb skewers were meatier than average and abundant, with nice dry rub but not enough cumin for my taste; we each had our own extremely slippery Spicy Hot Oil Seared Hand Pulled Noodles, since I was in no mood to share. We did share, and had enough for a lunch serving midweek, a lovely spicy eggplant that I cannot locate on the menu. Thinking about who we should drag along to expand the number of dishes we can try. The proofreader in me is compelled to report that I could find no typos in the menu, which also appears to be perfectly aligned.

This is by far and away my favorite Chinese restaurant. It is authentic Chinese food with unique offerings. The cold skin noodles in the Seabass with brown sauce are absolutely delicious. The Broiled eel rivals any of the best Japanese restaurants, and is a very generous portion. The spicy noodles are delicious. Everything they serve is fresh, generous portions and served in a homey atmosphere with prompt, friendly and knowledgeable servers. The eggplant in a hot pot is absolutely delicious. I love the tianjin pancake- like a chinese crepe filled with spices, greens , egg and chicken. The Szechuan style crawfish is a very generous portion and delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

My cousin visited from Malaysia and we stopped by for lunch. We ordered a couple of standard Chinese dishes and they were as expected. The green beans were a tad over salted. I suspect they offer other specialities as I noticed a couple slurping enthusiastically on cray fish.

You have to love all the people raving about how "authentic" it is--very few of whom have a clue where Shaanxi is, much less what people eat there. I've been in Shaanxi, but far too briefly to be able to comment whether this place is authentic or not. What I can tell you for certain is that the style and flavor is remarkably different from other Chinese places in the area, from the excellent Sichuan Gourmet and dim sum places all the way down. Local Chinese come here to eat noodles, dumplings, and especially the "burgers," which are sandwiched on a central-China steam-roasted flat bun. The noodles are hand-pulled, so they say, and I do think they've got that bouncy quality. The food is good, the flavors remarkable and unusual (much more sour, for one thing, as in Hunan), and the prices excellent. My only objection is that sometimes they clearly alter their food for roundeyes like me. This is not a guess, by the way: unbeknownst to the management, I speak decent Mandarin, and I was therefore able to get a definite visual comparison between the "hot and spicy hand-pulled noodles" I was eating and those being eaten by a Chinese customer nearby. Surprise surprise, hers were a quite different color, and mine were somewhat bland and sweet. I don't know what you do about this problem, honestly. I guess you could say, "Please, can I have the dishes the way you would eat them yourself, not dumbed-down for stupid white people?" But I don't know if it'd work. IF YOU ARE ON THE MANAGEMENT, please take note. Serve the same food to everyone. You don't know who's eating at your place. I'm not the only non-Chinese who speaks Mandarin, after all. What you should do is ASK: "that's traditionally very spicy, is that okay, or would you like it a little toned down?" I hope they get the message and stop hiding, because done honestly, this place deserves to be known widely.

Heard good things about this place and it didn't disappoint. Staff was efficient, decor was OK, but we came for the food and that was great.

This is one of those restaurants that you come to when you're sick of every other kind of Chinese food. This is about as authentic as you can get. If you decide to come don't be afraid to try something new. We had veggie dumplings and pork with fried rice cake. Both were outstanding. The waitress was very helpful helping us pick out dishes since the menu is mostly in Chinese.
