About
Since 1978, Roadside Store and Cafe has been a fixture of Monterey, Massachusetts. Roadside is more than just a place to get your morning coffee and eggs; it's a beacon of community and social enterprise. We proudly source products locally - many of our products coming right from our own farm, garden, and bakery - creating flavorful dishes that celebrate the Berkshire's bounty while providing meaningful therapeutic work opportunities as part of Gould Farm's larger program. Our space fosters connections, where locals and travelers gather to share stories, forging friendships and a sense of belonging. Roadside Store and Cafe isn't just a place to eat; it's a catalyst for social change, promoting inclusivity, dignity, and empowerment for all who sit at our tables.

We just love The Roadside Cafe. Delicious omelets and pancakes. We have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. Nothing fancy just great food, fair prices and large portions. Yum

We stopped in here recently for breakfast because it was highly recommended by everyone. We were served right away and our meals were nicely prepared. Baked goods and other local products are available to take out. The wood stove tokes the chill off an Autumn morning. Good coffee!

The Roadside Store is mostly a small short-order cafe that does a nice job turning out fine breakfasts and lunches from a limited menu. We particularly like the pancakes, home fries and omelettes that they offer for breakfast. Keep in mind that this location is part of the Gould Farm non-profit, which is dedicated to helping individuals who are experiencing mental illness. The Roadside Store employs 'clients' who are transitioning back to their mainstream lives, which is great, but sometimes I have seen customers become overly demanding when their food doesn't arrive in as timely a manner as they prefer.

Saw this cafe when driving from Monterey to Great Barrington and decided to stop for a drink and snack and we are very pleased we did. Quite small inside, v friendly meet and greet, relaxed atmosphere, full menu, we chose a waffle with apple and a buttered bagel, all freshly cooked, very tasty and large portions. The other food coming out looked excellent. We thought this was a super cafe and if in the area will revisit - especially for breakfast.

Haven't had a chance to go to the Roadside Store and Cafe yet, but did go to Gould Farm's other venture- the Harvest Barn Bakery this past weekend. Very off the beaten path, but if you want a calming environment to have your coffee and delicious pastry-this is the place. We had a pistachio raspberry scone and a cranberry orange muffin. Then took 6 scones home with us. There is a case of incredible desserts to choose from like chocolate mousse, macaroons, cookies. They also have beautifully packaged, homemade granola, maple syrup, Dijon maple vinaigrette, duck eggs, and so much more. You are also supporting a powerful mission when you buy here. We harvest hope is their motto. Check out the prairie whales as you gaze through the windows and relax on this peaceful farm in the Berkshires.

I've eaten here several times when I'm in the area. The service is excellent, and everything is cooked right in front of you. Much of the food comes from Gould Farm down the road, and I've never had anything that wasn't excellent. All the bread is baked at the Harvest Barn, another enterprise of the Farm. Try the build your own omelet. In case you don't figure it out yourself, there's a sign behind the the counter that says, 'No we do not have wifi; talk to each other!'

All breakfast connoisseurs need to make a trek to the Roadside Cafe in Monterey. The atmosphere is cozy, relaxed, and comfortable. The decor and ambience reflects its rural, country setting. The menu items are made from scratch from farm fresh ingredients and are home grown --- for example, the syrup for the pancakes or french toast is made right on the farm. You won't find any finer tasting meal in the country.

We never go to the area without having breakfast at The Roadside. Nothing fancy. Good fresh eats. Herbs picked right outside the restaurant in their garden. Fresh produce from their farm, Gould Farm. Nice people, great food and huge potions. A keeper! Try the roasted garlic in your omelet. Yum

Having been introduced to this project during a family visit we wholeheartedly recommend you visit this homely shack for great food and thoughtful service. As well as eating a very tasty meal you'll be supporting a community project assisting more vulnerable members of society. Always remembering the aims of the project you should be patient and you won't be disappointed. We remember our visit regularly as we drink our daily cuppa from the mugs we purchased as a memento.

This small little cafe serves delicious foods grown on nearby Gould Farm, its owner! The burger made from Gould's beef was likely the best we've had. The butternut squash soup was wonderfully complex and deeply satisfying. You must try the farm made baked goods as well. The maple wheat bread was dense and so good! We also bought farm tapped maple syrup and maple Dijon dressing to enjoy at home. Don't miss this little gem tucked deep into the beautiful Berkshires.

Small local charm! Delicious, fresh breakfast or lunch. I was pleased with the gluten free options as well.

Recommended to us while on vacation, this charming 20+ seating Is diamond in the rough. Using local ingredients from Gould Farms, this cafe gives folks with developmental challenges a place to learn how to cook, serve, and clean. All of the folks were wonderful and it was a pleasure to eat there. Pancakes the them size of platters! Their own maple syrup. You can even purchase Gould Farm items to take home!

Operated by staff and guests of Gould Farm, this small breakfast and lunch spot provides excellent breakfasts and lunches. Many of the ingredients are from the farm or sourced locally - like Rawson Farm goat cheese. It is a popular place with locals and visitors alike. Service is friendly - but be prepared to wait a while as everything is made from scratch. There is outside seating in the summer.
