An eclectic breakfast and lunch cafe located in the heart of the Berkshires, On a Roll Cafe has been serving fresh and exciting menu items for over 18 years. Chef and Owner David Barile has been cooking since he was in High School, and puts his passion into every dish that leaves the kitchen. We offer a variety of Breakfast and Lunch items that meet the needs of many dietary restrictions. On Roll Cafe was opened first in Pittsfield before moving to our new location.

We recently went to On a Roll for breakfast - after having gone there many, many times for lunch which is also excellent. The breakfast was extraordinary. The waiter advised us to make reservations for breakfast next time because they really do fill up. During the pandemic, they are serving on their deck as always, but they have set up tables all over the yard as well. The setting is just beautiful!

A short distance from the Marriott Courtyard hotel is the ideal place for breakfast. We visited twice during our stay in Lenox. Arrived after 11am one day when breakfast menu had finished but staff accommodated our needs for breakfast. Clean and nice friendly staff.

The food was delicious and we had quite a variety - lemon ricotta pancakes, sweet potato hash, toasted pecan and coconut french toast along with the usual eggs and bacon. The staff was very attentive and they have set up really nice outdoor seating. We way over ordered, as the portions are good sized.

Stopped here for lunch. Nearly empty restaurant. Dry pot roast “special”, buttermilk chicken BLT (they forgot the bacon) accompanied by some very tired looking sweet potato wedges. Wife had hot tea. Bill was $32 before tip. Glad that others seem to have had better experiences.

We came to the cafe in high anticipation of a good espresso and cappuccino. The chef(?) pointed rather rudely to a table, which we then went to. The waitress came quite quickly and took our drink order. We told her that we didn't want anything to eat. 5 minutes later she came and wanted to take our food order. We said again that we didn't want anything to eat and she pulled a face. Then we waited. After 20 minutes we asked when the espresso and cappuccino would arrive and were told that the machine was going through a cleaning process. Very questionable when the cafe is in operation. Another 5 minutes later our drinks arrived and what we got was a disgrace. The cappuccino came in a large portion, even though that wasn't what we ordered, and tasted like watered-down milk, nothing more. The espresso was undrinkable, it tasted as if they had forgotten to put coffee powder in the machine and it looked like it too...slightly colored water. When our bill came ($14) we paid $20 and the waitress, who had become quite rude by now, asked in all seriousness if we wanted the change. There was no tip and we will definitely not be coming back here.

We have had breakfast here for the past several years and always very pleased with the food. Although the servers , while friendly, often feel like they get caught up chatting amongst themselves and with regulars We were disappointed with the food this year. My omelet was over cooked and dry, the English muffin was chewy and the fruit less than ripe. My husband gets the lemon ricotta pancakes & chicken sausage every year. The pancakes were not tender & light like lemon ricotta usually is and the sausage, too, was dry. Overall for both of us overcooked food lacking in flavors. Decent coffee which was replenished regularly

Great service. Easy access.
We came for breakfast. Ordered eggs and a meat side. Everything was fine - warm, tasty - but eggs had an abundance of salt. Over easy didn't need any seasoning and I didn't think I would need to say that. Oh well. Nixo for the bathroom. Apparently someone forgot to check the towels lately.
Plus is that they're open.

We arrived without a reservation, but we were provided a seat outdoors, which was beside a small stream. We ordered the fruit plate, which was huge, with all kids of fresh fruit. We also shared lemon ricotta pancakes and toasted coconut and pecan french toast which were both yummy. I know some people on this site have had bad experiences here, but this is our second time at this restaurant (also one year ago) and the food and service, in my humble opinion, are both above average.

As noted by another review, they may not seat you immediately even if there are many open tables. The food was fine, not great. Small complaint in that the $2.50 upcharge to oatmeal for blueberries yielded about 6 small blueberries.

Enjoyed the best breakfast sandwich I have had in years. Hard to choose between pancakes or eggs but so happy I picked the egg sandwich because it was delicious. The outdoor seating is lovely overlooking small pond. Staff was very pleasant.

This was a casual breakfast place located near our hotel. We went on a beautiful day and sat outside to enjoy the weather. The menu items were usual breakfast items of eggs and pancakes. I enjoyed a very scrumptious omelette.

Too many resturants in the area are closed due to lack of help or lack of business. Fortunately On A Roll was open and we 4 settled in for a late lunch just before the 2:00 closing (they open later for dinner).
We were all pleasantly surprised with the combination of service, selections, speed and quality. I had the salmon entree while my wife enjoyed a grilled veggie panini. Our friends had salmon or chicken over salad. All were pleased with the portions and freshness. Give it a try.

This past May we wrote a 3 star review of the restaurant titled "Not" On A Roll which clearly got the attention of the owner. More about that later.
Recently, we ate breakfast there again and the place we have enjoyed for many years was back in stride. We were seated promptly, the service was attentive, our breakfasts excellent and David checked in to make sure everything was as it should be. Kudos to all.
Now back to our review which clearly bothered the owner. First, he pointed out that we had never posted a positive review following our many earlier visits. He is correct. Clearly, an oversight on our part . His comments that we had no oncept of what was going on behind the scenes to effect their performance on the day in question is also correct; however, the answer that day was not to ignore us but rather, greet us at the door, explain to us that things are backed up, let us know it will take them additional time to get to us and we would, of course, understand. A simple straightforward and timely explanation would have been all that was necessary. Hopefully, faced with a similar situation in the future, management will remember that we might not be aware of what is happening out back but up front we are your customers and we should never be taken for granted, particularly when it takes but a minute to explain whatever is going so that we know the situation

Not like it used to be. Service was not good. We had to ask several times for water and my friend asked for lemon, which never came.
I ordered curried chicken salad sandwich,one of my favorites. I was offered a sourdough roll or multi grain bread. I opted for the latter, which must have been stale to start, because it was toasted to death. The sandwich was dry beyond belief and the chicken salad filling was meager. I did not attempt to return it because the server was nowhere to be found. My friend had a wrap, which she said was good.

Eggs not cooked as asked, toast came out with butter when asked to have butter on the side. Well done home fries I asked for came out not crisp at all. Slooooooow service. And the "home made hash" was from a can and NOT fresh. Owners a moron likes to argue with customers. Go back to school son.

We will make sure everything is perfect! I'm not sure what is with the name calling. Not very adult. Also, as always, the corned beef hash is 100% made in house, no cans here!!!
