One of my all time nostalgic favorites when in Lawrence is to stop by the Italian Kitchen run by the Messina family. There is no better and no other place within New England to get crispellis. Crispellis are a fried dough filled with either ricotta cheese or anchovies. I am an anchovie fan and don't miss an opportunity to grab... More

The Italian Kitchen offers catering services, but I go for the amazing arancini (rice balls). They are gently fried and stuffed with creamy rice. They are bathed in smooth sauce and they re-heat well if you order them to go. Be sure to order some crispelli for dessert. They are a small fried dough type dessert stuffed with ricotta or... More

This small Kitchen incorporates history, culture and the best crispelli's and rice balls known to mankind. It probably (and sadly) won't be around all that much longer, but while it is, enjoy a trip back in time.

Visiting The Italian Kitchen takes me back. My family is from Sicily and Naples, so crispelli's were a staple. Not only will you get wonderful food, but a history lesson if you ask. It's sad that places like this are disappearing, let's keep them alive!

One of the only places I know of where you can get crispellis, both ricotta and anchovy are excellent! On top of that, you will be hard pressed to find a better rice ball anywhere. I've been living in Lawrence 45 yrs, and I still love to regularly head down to the Italian Kitchen for a bag of crispellis.

You can take the boy out of Lawrence, but you can't take Lawrence outta the man! The Italian Kitchen is on the short list when I go home. Meat pie at Pizza King. Subs at Jim's. Chicken barbs at Norms. And rice balls and crispellis at the Italian Kitchen!! There is nothing like a cheese or anchovie crispelli from the... More

I do not visit Lawrence often but when I do I have to stop here and buy a bag of crispellis. Probably not very healthy for you but very tasty especially with anchovies. Metered parking is available curbside but you can park directly around the corner for free.
