3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Visited buoyed by the reviews of the 'best clams in New England'. I'm afraid it really didn't live up to expectations. The service was reasonable and friendly enough (it's self service) but the wait was quite long. The food was really not that great. It was pretty greasy, bland, and the batter wasn't very good. A defect with the huge... More

Stopped in for lunch with my husband. The place was pretty busy but the lines moved quickly. You can eat in the dining room or at the picnic tables. The clam chowder was very yummy lots of clams and nice and thick. Had some clam cakes which were also very good. My husband had a generous plate of chicken tenders... More

Ipswhich is the home of the fried clam not Howard Johnson's like some would belevie. Clam Box is a roadside dinner that specializes in fried clams. You can not go wrong going to the clam box. Thre may be a fewe better the locals can tell you about but there is nothing wrong with the fresh fried clams at Clam... More

Yes, it was crowded( a good sign to me!) but in my opinion, it was worth the wait. I got the fried clams and they were JUST the way I like them! The batter was light and the bellies not too big. Oh.my. Glorious! I look forward to my once-a-year treat while visiting home and I was not disappointed. This... More

Having good memories of a fried clam meal 20 years ago at the Clam Box my husband and I made a detour on a road trip heading north to eat lunch there. We arrived about 1:30 pm and were 12th in line outside. The line did not appear to be moving and when I used the restroom shortly after 2... More

The Clam Box of Ipswich is an iconic clam shack. It's been in its present location on Route 133 (sometimes known as the clam highway) since the 1930s, serving up fried clams along with French fries, onion rings and various other delights to hungry tourists and natives alike. Built to look like the boxes clams used to be served in,... More

We waited 25 minutes to place our order. I noticed a sign that said they were changing their cooking oil at approximately 2:30 and there would be a subsequent 15 minute wait. I knew we were in jeopardy of being subjected to that wait as we arrived in line at 2:00. We went in the restaurant and there was only... More

The "mini-meal" of native fried clams and onion rings included generous portions and was so filling. The fried whole clams tasted fresh and were so flavorful I barely used the tartar sauce. The cole slaw was fresh and tasty.

Great roadside spot with a variety of tasty fried things. Had the clams and the shrimp. Both were excellent. Seemed to be made to order. Really enjoyed the meal and the old-timey setting.
