Been several times and it's always great. Don't be deceived by the small bowls. They pile on the clams. One large bowl is more than enough for two people. Cole slaw is fabulous if you prefer less mayo. FF are very hot and crisp. This...is a regular stop for us whenever we're up that way.More

Ordered a large clam and scallop plate and a small scallop plate and when they came out they looked delicious. Light batter and not greasy but the problem was there was absolutely no flavor at all, I was amazed and bummed out. Must be using...frozen products in winter.More

Extremely expensive and vastly overrated. Lobster roll had absolutely no flavor, no seasoning. Meat was dry and there was more lettuce than lobster. Suspect use of frozen lobster meat. Very overpriced for what you get. Bag of chips, which came with the overpriced roll, was...actually better tasting than the roll itself. Fried clam plate, same story. Frozen french fries, frozen onion rings from a giant plastic bag and a fairly good sized portion of fried clams that had absolutely no flavor. None. Staff is indifferent and condescending. This place is focused on one thing and one thing only, and that is extracting your money from your pocket. There are so many better seafood spots in Ipswich. Do yourself a favor, save some money and search them out.More

After hearing so much about the Clam Box I have now gone there twice and was diappointed both times. First it has to be the worst managed clam shack in the area. After being in business for so long it is incredible how long it...takes to place an order, even if the line is not long. They are also on the high priced side compared to some of the shops next door in Essex. However, most importantly I just did not find their food as good as places like Farnham's and Woodman's. Whether it was their chowder or their fried clams, you can do better.More

My wife and I enjoyed lunch at the Clam Box in Ipswich. A true classic dating back to 1935. The 1950s music playing in the restaurant was terrific. I had the mini-meal of fried native clams, coleslaw, and an order of clam chowder. My wife...had the mini-meal of haddock. We arrived at 1145 - perfect timing, as the place was extremely busy by the time we departed at 1245. It was easy to see that this is a mainstay in the area, loved by locals and visitors alike.More

This was on our list seafood shacks to visit on a journey through New England. It was number six. The clam chowder was the best we've had yet. Fried "native clams" (wholebelly) were perfect (note they change the oil twice daily and had just finished...changing it). The lobster roll (cold) was scrumptious and the cole slaw top notch A wonderful experience..More

I was looking forward to coming here as I had not been all summer. I ordered the mini fried oyster plate. The portion size was very good for the price. However, I was extremely disappointed with the flavorless breading on the oysters. I kept trying...one after the other thinking it was me... but sadly is wasn't. I don't know if this was an off batch, but the blandness and flavorlessness of the breading made for a highly disappointing experience. The oysters themselves were good, many I ate taking the breading off. I hope Clambox reviews this and considers making a change to the batter recipe as it really needs some help.More

We came here for dinner. Customers were steady but they seemed to keep up the pace very well. Not too long wait time at 5pm. We ate outdoors on tables we cleaned ourselves. They had paper towels and cleaning spray available. Indoors was an option....Portions were large! I got a mini-meal of chicken fingers (5) and onion rings, and I was quite satisfied. My husbands haddock plate had a pile of food on it!More

Every afternoon - about 2:30 - they change the oil after the lunch rush. Would have too, I guess, because the line was pretty long at about 2:00 on a gloomy Thursday. Order at the window, find a table - inside room and an outside...open "tent." Huge plate of clam strips, rings and fries - fed three of us. Very tasty. Good slaw. This place makes all the "lists" and seems deserving of them off my one time visit.More

This unassuming clam shack pumps out incredible fried clams. There are other items on the menu too. Everything was perfect. The cole slaw was the best I've ever had. This place is no frills. There is indoor seating and plenty of picnic tables outside. Never...mind the lines. The wait is well worth it!More

I will live and die on this hill that the Clam Box has THE BEST clam strips around. For this area that really means something. Their seafood is great quality, they change their oil regularly, their staff is friendly and the food comes out quick...especially considering how many orders they process a day. The prices are not cheap but that’s because top notch seafood costs a pretty penny. That being said their prices are on par with other local counterparts and it’s 100% worth it. We have a bit of a rift in the family where some are team Woodmans but I’m firmly in the Clam Box Camp and strongly recommend you give them a try! It also helps that their onion rings and thin cut French fries are super tasty in their own right and not just filler. I’ve been going here my whole life and it’s always as delicious as I remember.More

Wow! I had a lot of anticipation before coming here, and these guys did not disappoint. Amazing, perfect fried clams, great fried haddock, best clam chowder I've had (and I've had a lot), and best cole slaw I've had. Even the tartar sauce was awesome....They obviously take pride and great care in what they do. Long live Clam Box of Ipswich. Beautiful experience.More
