Baxter’s is the best! I went to dinner solo and had some fantastic fish and chips at their outdoor seating. By the end of the evening, I had made some new friends and had some great conversations. Really fun place!

I grew up bringing my boat to Baxter's for lunch and dinner and remember always liking it. However after moving off Cape and not having been for a long time, I was quite disappointed in my recent visit. My stuffed quahog was devoid of flavor...and lukewarm. The seafood bisque was just okay, and the salad looked and tasted like it came out of a bag. On the plus side, the fried seafood platter was pretty good, the waitress was friendly, and we were able to get seated quickly when many other places were impossible to get into (which I now understand why). The location on the water is great but seems to be the only selling point.More

Have enjoyed dining at Baxters several times. Our favorite menu item is the seafood bisque. Took a large group of family there Friday June 17. Entered the restaurant at 4:45PM. The eight of us placed our orders with the waitress “Sam”, including 3 cups and...3 bowls of seafood bisque. She came back a few minutes later and informed us there were only two cups of seafood bisque left in the kitchen. REALLY - the dinner hour was just getting started and the restaurant only has 2 cups of one their featured menu items. That set the tone for the meal. We ordered several Mudslide drinks. These are alcoholic drinks. They turned not nearly as good as the ones we ordered the night before. Bartender must have forgot to add the alcohol. Will think twice before going back to Baxters.More

Had a table outside on small deck overlooking harbor. Good swordfish sandwich - La Crema Chardonnay, my favorite. Hosetesses were wonderful to try and get us a good table. Our server was not so good, had to ask for silverware, napkin, put in grilled swordfish...instead of what we asked blackened, had to ask for sauces, had to ask for check - she never checked in on us if we needed anything. I had to keep getting up to ask for what we needed.More

We ate at Baxter's Boathouse, which is adjacent to Baxter's Fish N Chips, and I assume they are both owned by the same company. The tables were WAY TOO CLOSE to each other. We felt really cramped. The food was OK, but our salad was...served in a plastic takeout container and our dinners were on dry, recycled paper plates. Not what we expect for a $100 dinner for 2 (actually 1 dinner, 1 salad, and 1 sandwich).More

We were in town to visit JFK Museum @ Main Street, Hyannis MA. The museum curator recommended us to have lunch at Baxter’s Fish-N-Chips. While the food was good, with nice ambience on the waters, I was surprised that our lunch was plated on paper...products. WHAT!!! This eatery is a restaurant on the water; we did not get our lunch from a food truck or take out or a mall food court! The appetizer, a small plastic dish of calamari rings, is definitely overpriced at $19. Picture speaks a thousand words. Small appetizer circled in blue. My lobster roll lunch on a small roll @ $35. See the paper plates and black plastic bowl. You be the judge! Looks like this place may be good only for a one-time off visiting patrons from out of town, not a good restaurant for long term community patronage.More

Well it has a nice location on the water, but food could be better. Had the blackened Swordfish sandwich, wish I would have had something else. Wife did say the clam strips were good but lack of attention from our waitress made things worse and...they weren't busy - too many other places to go in the vicinity, ship this place.More

Friends recommended this place. On the water, hostess was great and they enough staff despite the shortage of help. Sat outside. Knowing it's tourist central we expected to get screwed. I had oyster plate with Cole slaw and rice instead of fries, wife had baked...scrod with light crumbs came as requested. Rice barely warm, oysters were great but should have been $23 instead of $28 unless 4 or 5 more oysters were included. They were wonderful. Wife loved scrod, not overcooked and Cole slaw was great. A thimble of wine that I had was fine, $10?? May go back, especially for the cozy bar. Kinda pricey, but again, tourist central. I actually wanted a lobster but it appears they only sell 2 pounders at $56!! I would have paid 30 for pound and a quarter.More

Stopped here for dinner based upon reviews and was sadly disappointed. Sat outside which was very nice until a boat came and parked and left its has fumes over our table. The prices are high for the quantity and quality. Ordered scrod which was watery...and the baked potato was old and probably leftover from the previous night. The fried shrimp were mealy and not crunchy at all. The chowder was ok but lacked seasoning. All in all not a good experience and would not go back or recommend.More

Nice setting but very expensive, unimaginative and bland food served with no flourish - small portions on paper plates and bowls - quite disappointing after reading reviews - there has to be better local options - we will not be back

Lucky enough to get a table with a view of the marina activity. That 'is' the entertainment... The place seemed very busy although lots of empty tables... wait staff literally running, red faced, to get around. I had the fish sandwich... hmm... the bun was...cold and seemed either stale or had been previously frozen and thawed. Very dry. It was hard to get the attention of the waitress again...I had to get up and find the waitress to get tartar sauce (the only thing 'juicy' about the sandwich.) Lobster roll was good and meaty. Cocktails are 'sturdy.' I was hungry ... so ate the fish sandwich without bringing any attention to the staff... however, when I did, they seemed nonplussed by my comment. It was nice.. the harbor activity was great to watch from a perspective that you might otherwise not get. The fish sandwich at Kreme N Kone was FAR BETTER!!More

The website states seating is first come first served. Ample seating, reservation are not needed. We arrived on Tuesday evening at 6:30 and was told 45 minutes wait. After 45 min was told it would be another 20-25 minutes. We did get seated outside. The...service was fast and friendly. The hamburger was dry. The rest of the party had fish or shrimp and said was good. The cape cod beer was good. The view was very nice.More

The location of this restaurant is it’s only redeeming quality. The restaurant has too many tables crammed into a small space. We could barely get into our chairs with how they have the tables set up and when another party came in we were bumped...and jabbed as they tried to sit -- wasnt their fault just too many tables. Height of the chairs in relation to the tables was also low which felt awkward -- i needed a phone book to sit on. Noisy too. Lets talk food. The clam chowder was Ok but nothing special. My $32 broiled seafood platter was plunked down in front of me on a paper plate. Tiny portions and it looked like it was reheated from frozen. It was also completely tasteless. The scallops, the fish, and the shrimp ALL tasted the same and as bland as tofu. I sent that plate back because I wasn’t paying that much for awful food. I asked for fried fish dinner instead -- heck the name of the place is “fish-n-chips” so it was guaranteed to be spectacular right? No! Unfortunately it was just as bland as my first plate (thank god for tartar sauce and salt).Probably the biggest disappointment was EVERYTHING is served on paper plates, disposable cups, and plastic utensils. Seriously... my “silverware” came in a baggie. Entrees costing this much should taste a whole lot better and should not be served on paper -- give me a break!. During our stay we also ate at a restaurant across the street -- similar prices BUT totally worth it! – superb food, real dinnerware, great ambiance and live piano music. If it wasn’t for unsuspecting tourists Baxters would (and should) go under.More

While the decor is certainly not fancy, the views definitely make up for it. This is the kind of low-key harbor front eatery that you must partake of on any trip to the Cape. I didn't have high expectations, but I was truly impressed with...their fish and chips. The haddock was wonderfully flakey and delicious. Breading light. It was really worth ordering and one of the cheaper seafood items on the menu. I also ordered the crab cakes and I would not recommend those. I probably should have known that they would be quite small, so I was disappointed. The cakes did taste good though, nice and moist with good flavor. They seemed a bit disorganized as far as seating people went, but I think this might be a pandemic problem (and was not a big deal). The servers we had both times were very, very pleasant and efficient too. We managed to get a seat on the deck by the water on our second night there and we highly recommend it if you can get it! Would definitely, definitely go back again (might even drive out of our way to get some good fish and chips).More

There are so many negatives about this restaurant. Noise level is so loud you cannot hear the people at your table talk. The menu on line does not show food prices. The food is very mediocre, waitress never returns after ordering because the food is...delivered to your table (1/2 hr later) by someone from the kitchen. The only good thing about Baxters is the view. Very disappointed and will never go back. There are so many good restaurants on the Cape and this is NOT one of them.More

No - Baxster's NEVER take reservations! Although you may wait to place an order, there's almost always plenty of space on the cafeteria side. If there's a wait on the bar/sit down side (21+ at ALL times) it won't be too... More
