I admit it: I’m a pizza lover. I travel far to try new pizza and love it when I find a place I can count on for great pizza; Slater’s is my go-to place for a delicious wood-fired pizza in central Massachusetts.
Some say the...sauce makes the pizza, and if that’s the case Slater’s sauce is certainly one of the reasons their pizza is so popular. Try the Tuscan for a delicious mix of meatballs with ricotta, mozzarella and Romano cheeses.
Crust enjoyment varies widely among foodies. I generally don’t eat the crust because it’s usually doughy, or salty and huge so I just end up filling up on the crust if I force myself to eat it. Slater’s crust is thin and crispy and delicious to the last bite so it’s one of those rare pizzas where I eat the whole slice every time. The pepperoni in particular on Slater’s pizza is a huge, delicious, thinly-sliced treat. If you just can’t order a pizza without pepperoni, you’ll love the Slater’s pepperoni.
Beer on tap and in bottles is available, and a perfect compliment for the pizza, if you enjoy beer.
Slater’s has other delicious meals, in particular their BBQ sauce is terrific. The 495 Southbound and 495 Northbound pizzas feature this tasty sauce as a base. The sound bound is pulled pork, the Northbound is pulled chicken. I think the pulled pork is the better of the two.
There is live music on some nights including an open mic night so it can get loud and quite crowded, especially on weekends.
Slater’s has ample parking and I’ve never seen every spot taken so don’t worry about finding a spot.
In summer they’ve opened up a charming lawn area for dining outside. If you can handle the occasional yellow jacket lurking around outside it’s a great way to enjoy a tasty lunch with a scenic forest view.
Vegetarians, you may have a tough time here. Yes, there are salads and vegetarian pizza available and they are good, but nothing on the menu seems specifically crafted for the vegetarian palette, and no vegan meat alternatives are available to my knowledge. It would be great if they offered some Gardein meatless pizza options like The Yardhouse does because the Slater’s sauce would make it spectacular. You may wish to try Rail Trail in nearby Hudson if you find yourself wanting for vegetarian options at Slater’s.
The bottom line here is the Bolton doesn’t have a lot of dining options and has no proper pubs so Slater’s is about as close as you can get and I highly recommend Slater’s for pizza lovers and fans of Bar-BQ food.More
