If you know what home cooking is (i.e. a dollop of bacon fat every now and then) then you will love this place. The food, is exactly what Grandma Bessie used to make. Pinto beans, turnip green, fried okra, cornbread, fried and baked chicken, livers,...ets.... you know the fair, all prepared wonderfully and tasting great. The portions are generous and the leftovers last for a couple of days. Though I love a little bacon fat every now and then, they also have healthier dishes. We've ordered food to go several times, but have never visited the restaurant itself.More

We googled to see what good seafood places were near us after arriving to DC and being beyond hungry after a long flight ! The food was fresh we had a variety of items from the menu Catfish 🔥Mac & Cheese 🔥Crab legs🔥 the deserts...🔥. It was clean and food is was very fresh. The staff was polite and although they were busy which they should be it moved fast sad we could not in eat due to COVID it was so fresh it was still warm after a 15 minute ride to Airbnb. Price was perfect for the great quality!More

I ordered through Uber eats paid $36.00 like 5 went to Uber for delivery fee. But for the price this definitely wasn’t worth the price. One crab cake, okra and sweet corn and a dry piece of cornbread. So with the crab cake dinner you...get the crab cake corn bread and corn they charged 2.99 for okra and 3 bucks apiece for a bottle drink. The only thing that was edible was the okra. The crab cake was horrible all you could taste is like the mayonnaise. The sweet corn seemed like it was under a heat lamp for hours it was dry and not sweet at all. The cornbread was a dry square piece of junk very tasteless. I don’t how the other food from this place is but my order didn’t belong in a restaurant tasting like that.More

Mid-Atlantic Seafood hits a home run every time! It has a very extensive menu and it's sides are a southern cook's dream. It offers every variety of fish--croakers, whiting, trout--plus shrimp, etc. They cook it to your specifications. I've never seen the restaurant empty, and...sometimes the line is out the door on weekends. They also have cakes galore for sale by the slice. I just learned they also offer breakfast, so I can't wait to try it. They do not offer table service, and the restaurant was once a Roy Rogers, so you may prefer to take your food home and eat it there.More

Whenever I’m in this area, I make it a point to stop by. It’s hard to find decent restaurant southern/soul food but this spot really holds up. Obviously everything isn’t going to take just like granny’s but it’s a pretty close second. The only thing...that I don’t really enjoy is their cornbread, but that’s because I like sweet, cakes cornbread and theirs happens to be on the drier corn side. If you like soul food I would strongly recommend it. It’s a little pricey but the portions are HUGE. I always take a to go contained.More

We stumbled across this place from a GPS search. We lucked up! The food was really good - especially the sides! My wife says the yams are "to die for" and the black eyed peas were just right! The Broccoli was cooked just right as...well. The fish was hard fried, just as it should be - as my wife says. My shrimp was fine, and the crab cake was decent. Not the best - but not bad. The only drawback was the smell of chitterlings that invaded my nose when we walked through the door. Unfortunately, the eating area in back was not insulated from that awful smell.More

If you love fried fish, or ribs, with collards or kale and sweet potatoes, this is the place for you. Freshly cooked fish of many types, bone in or fillets. Steam table vegetables mostly, but frequently refilled since there is usually a land-office business going...on. We are regulars, and can say the food is consistently good. The portions are HUGE. Most meals will easily feed two, or provide leftovers for another day. Mostly carry-out business, but there are tables if you want to sit & eat. I don't like eating from plastic containers with plastic flatware, so we mostly go home to eat. The only negative is that you may encounter long lines on evenings & Saturdays - they are closed on Sundays.More

Mid Atlantic Seafood is a local favorite among residents of the DC/MD/VA area. There are several locations but I went to the Takoma Park location because of convenience. All of the food at the restaurant is GOOD. They just know how to cook. I had...my usual favorite, baked salmon, and once again, I was pleased with the portion size and the taste. The salmon is expertly cooked. The salmon is moist without being oily. My two sides dishes, mashed potatoes and teriyaki string beans with mushrooms were a perfect complement. Mid Atlantic also has a wide variety of desserts and beverages. I just can't say enough good things about this place. If you like beef, pork, seafood, or even just vegetables, there is so much to choose from. You just can't go wrong. Important thing to remember is that this place can get crowded especially around dinner time. Therefore, it is good to call ahead and place your order. That way you will minimize your wait time.More

I recently used Mid Atlantic Seafood Takoma Park for a catered brunch event. The menu choices they provide are awesome! The manager worked me and I was able to provide a very diverse menu for the occasion. There was an abundance of food to feed...the guests and the seasonings were appropriate, not too much and not too little but just right. There are several Mid Atlantic Seafood restaurant locations in the Maryland; however the best one by far is the location at Takoma Park. Try it you won't be disappointed.More

This no nonsense restaurant serves exceptional quality seafood in a very simple yet pleasant and clean setting at remarkably low prices. A typical dinner includes a main course and two sides and the sides are also delicious. I'd characterize the sides as Southern (kale, collards,...sweet potatoes) or Chinese (sauteed green beans with mushrooms, lo mein, etc). I'm astounded how good my fried fish was. And the portions are enormous. Next time my wife and I will split a single dinner. Plenty of parking too.More

Four of us ordered takeout so there’ll be lots of information in this review. We shared one appetizer and we all ordered main dishes, which come with two side dishes. So here goes. The corn nuggets appetizer contained identifiable kernels of corn and were sweet...but not too sweet, with a nice texture. The main dishes were tilapia, catfish, sea scallops, and fried clams. All were really good. Although all were fried, Mid Atlantic’s method of frying does not produce greasy seafood -- it was actually fairly light. The catfish and tilapia breading was crunchy and tasty and the fish was moist. The tilapia was regarded as a bit “fishy” by some of us; if we had to vote between the two we’d vote for the catfish. The sea scallops were very good, big; the breading didn’t stick to them – overall good but not exceptional. The fried clams were great and overall the lack of greasiness made the main dishes much, much lighter than we’d expected. Now for the side dishes: potato salad very good; steamed broccoli was fine; collards good; sweet potato fries were okay but a little soggy by the time we got back to the house. If we’d eaten at the restaurant they’d have been fine. Plantains were better than average – tender without being mushy. The hush puppies were basic hush puppies. Green bean side dish was good but just what you’d expect. However, we found out the hard way that there are two types of “butter beans” – lima beans and Sieva beans. One person in our group is from Virginia and for him butter beans are Sieva beans. In Washington DC however, butter beans are lima beans. An unfortunate disconnect! For dessert, the red velvet cake was very good. We also ordered banana pudding for dessert. Our Virginia comrade, who, it must be said, makes his own banana pudding, pronounced it as not the real deal. His criticisms were: there are supposed to be bananas throughout, there should be more bananas in general, there should be more vanilla wafers on top, and there should be whipped cream on top. But all in all a very good feast – especially for $67 for four of us! We will definitely return.More
