We had driven to Smithsburg from Thurmont to try a different restaurant and they were closed for annual vacation. Found China 88, and due to the good ratings, gave it a try. The food was fresh and well prepared. I would go back for the food, but would likely get "take-out" instead. There are only a couple of tables there, and frankly, ours felt kind of sticky. Yeah ... it did. And, the place was blazing hot. They must have been running the AC at 80 degrees plus. But....., I would go back for the food on a take-out basis. They do have lunch specials!

It's about what you might hope for in a Chinese takeout joint. It's a little greasy, the meat is a cheaper cut, but while it might not exceed expectations it also doesn't disappoint. I usually get beef and broccoli, and the broccoli always seems very fresh with no filler vegetables. The sauce has depth of flavor, not just salty brown blah like some places, and they don't seem too heavy handed with MSG because I never get a reaction. There are cheaper Chinese places, but I think they're worth the money. Sometimes I need Chinese food when they're closed on Monday and I try other places, but I haven't found one as good in the area yet. They're friendly too.

Filthy interior and the food had zero flavor. No idea how this place can possibly stay open. Do yourself a favor and eat elsewhere.

Definitely stop at this place for quick and inexpensive Chinese food. The staff and owners are particularly friendly.

Went on a Friday for carryout. Place was busy and needed help. Took over an hour to get the food. Obviously no plan for Friday night business.
Seated at a table was a black man and what appeared to be his mother. Customer after customer came and went with their orders while this gentleman waited. When they called my name he was still waiting. I asked for a refund if they didn't give his food promptly.
Some Chinese restaurants use lean cuts of white meat chicken and make good dishes. Others use fatty cuts and trim poorly. Their food is greasy and fatty and if it is busy they are unbelievably slow.
Better to go next door to the grocery store and buy a random selection of Asian "inspired" frozen food.

AMAZING FOOD. You get some much food for a reasonable food. The food is always hot and very well prepared. There have been times when I have watched them cook my food while I waited. The staff is very friendly. My family and I dine there about twice a month or on many Fridays. The owner always know my order when I walk in. The Crab rangoons are the best.

You feel like Family when you order from China 88. The food is excellent and the owner and workers are very kind. The Owner's Kid even helps some nights instead of doing his homework.

We frequent China88, almost weekly, and have to say I've never had a bad meal. The folks here are so helpful and kind and they work their tails off to keep the customers happy. Some days we may wait 20 minutes after arrival time, other times it's ready to go. Always hot, always good food.

I have ordered from here several times - it is the only Chinese restaurant for several miles. I've never had a bad meal from them. The food is always hot and fresh. Since they are the only one around, they're usually pretty busy. The "10-15 minutes" in which I've been promised my food has often turned into 30-45 minutes of waiting. Still, that doesn't deter me. The food is worth the wait.

Used to be a good place to eat when it first opened. Now prices seem higher, portions are smaller and quality of the food is not that good.
We now go to Hong Express on the dual highway. Much better food and prices for what you get.
