Don't let its simple outside look deter you. This is the my favorite restaurant in all Silver Spring, hands down. Food is consistently great, service is friendly. You will not go wrong with any dish. Go for it, enjoy some delicious food, and learn a bit about Myanmar while you are at it.

The uniqueness of the menu --with the tea leaf salad, mixed rice salads, lentils and curries, plus the coconut (vegan) ice for dessert make this one of my favorite DC stops--just over the DC line in Silver Spring. Family run,

Along Bonifant St., closer to Fenton than to Georgia, Mandalay is by now an established institution among families in/near downtown Silver Spring. The food is always decent without being terrific. Prices are moderate (certainly not cheap: our takeout of two main courses with no tip and no drinks was over $30). We used to favor N1 (first cold noodle dish... More

I visited this restaurant on a not-busy weekday evening, about half an hour before the dinnertime flow of patrons. I enjoyed the Ginger Salad, the KyarZan Hingar (Soup #01), and particularly the ShweJi (cream of wheat) dessert. One person in my group seemed to like the MoHingar soup (Soup #02). I tasted the spicy NanJee Thoke (thick noodles), and they... More

Food was okay, but the quantity was very small. The food was very overpriced. Will not go again. They charge an extra 0.49 cents just for a small container of hot sauce.

My party was five people so we got to taste several dishes. My mixed noodle dish was ok but didn't contain many ingredients other than noodles. Two thick noodle dishes were better but not memorable. All were $12.49. My wife's fish soup had noodles but not fish and was nondescript. It was supposed to have lemongrass flavor but it did... More

It was my first time to try Burmese food! It was a great experience! We had the Squid with Cabbage and nuts fir appetizer, it was delicious! You wouldn't even notice that it has fish sauce! My entree is the shrimp with sour onions and fresh cilantro, it was good! The serving is not generous though, recommend one order for... More

Our first visit several years ago was our first introduction to Burmese food - it was a big thrill to taste classics with such unique flavors such as fermented tea leaf salad and yellow beans. Since then, I have been spoiled by multiple visits to Burma Superstar in San Francisco but this place was still fun. Service seemed a bit... More

We've enjoyed the food at Mandalay since they were located in College Park, MD. And we've visited more regularly since they moved to Silver Spring, MD many years ago. Good food (mild to spicy!), thoughtful owners, attentive staff. Give them a try!

A couple of friends and I had lunch here on a Friday. We tried the chicken lunch specials and a dessert. Try the spicy version with coconut milk - it's not that spicy and tastier than the non spicy one. One friend who knows Burmese food said both chicken and dessert both taste as Authentic Burmese. Place is clean and... More
