This place has been a stalwart along Rockville Pike/355 for decades it seems but I’ve never tried it until yesterday. I’m sure glad I did. The interior decor isn’t fancy but it gets the job done. The food is really tasty there. The menu is...extensive and easy to read. Service is fine and efficient. We came at a busy time so they offered us a tiny table for 2 near the back. But being more interested in the food and hungry, my companion and I did not mind at all bc we especially enjoyed the sesame noodle (hot), the shrimp and scallop in black bean sauce, and the fried tofu with mixed vegetables. The flounder with peppercorn and udon was also not bad. Will visit again. ParkMobile parking is available around the restaurant but if a little further away you can park in Garage A for two hours free.More

For many years, SJR was one of my “go to” Asian restaurants. Last week, something went kaflooey. The hot and sour soup was peppery and had little taste. The spring roles were bland. My twice cook port was almost all fatty pork with little meat....It was spicy hot, very oily, and devoid of flavor. I ended up throwing it away. The triple delight was spiced for no reason at all, and we asked that it be mild anyway. It was better the second night. The beef with vegetables, same thing, spicy for no reason, lacking in flavor. The hit of the night was my wife’s Mu Shu Chicken. However, I was surprised when the manager did not want to give me a second container of plum sauce. Not an option to upgrade from white rice to brown/fried. No fortune cookies either. I doubt that I will return. This was my second disappointment in the past month. There are too many better options within a mile of the restaurant. 2 large soups, 4 dishes, 1 order of fried wonton and spring rolls came to $100.More

Taste ***** Service ***** Originality ***** Price $$+++ I created my own gluten free dish by ordered this dish with no noodle and served with rice instead. Unfortunately, the Restaurant doesn't have brown rice. I would recommend this restaurant for both local and tourist. They...have various menu for your selection.More

I’ve eaten here a few times. Always delicious proper Chinese cooking, not the American variety of Chinese. Excellent menu and fair prices. Good service.

I marvel at how some people come to a Sichuan restaurant and order lo mein and egg drop soup. Saw another table with what I think was Orange Chicken. I mean, I guess the restaurant has to serve all kinds of people but they are...totally missing out on one of the world's most amazing, spicy, flavorful and creative dishes. How sad. We travel out of state to eat here and the server/owner recognizes us each time. I think it's because we order so much, they're happy with our selections and appetites. This visit we had sliced beef and tendon in chili sauce, Youngchou Fried rice, Sauteed Snow Pea tips, Spicy beef with Sichaun peppers, Fish fillet in Mala Sauce and shrimp lo mein (for the non-Asian in the group...). The best part of all of this food is that we get to enjoy if for a a couple of days with all of the leftovers and it just extends the bliss. This place is in an old office building, tacky furnishings, surrounded by all new shops, restaurants, condos and stuff but stubbornly staying old school. It's great food, a very homey atmosphere, don't expect the Ritz, just good eats.More

We lived for three years in Sichuan and if you want typical dishes that taste authentic, this is the place. We order simple simple basic dishes such as wontons with hot sauce, dan dan noodles, eggplant in garlic sauce, sliced beef and vegetable in fiery...soup, fried tofu with vegetables, and smoked duck. These are all staples in Sichuan and this restaurant has been doing them right for several years. There are always specials available and a variety of green vegetables not always on the menu. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. Many of the wait staff has been there since this place opened and will be glad to give you a good recommendation. The "fiery soup" dishes can be almost as hot and spicy as in Sichuan with lots of chili oil in the soup and a coating of crushed Sichuan pepper.More

Popular Sichuan restaurant in town. Special lunch menu offers good selections at very reasonable price - dine in or take out. Dinner menu has a longer list of good Sichuan cuisine. This is real good Sichuan peppercorn and hot pepper place for your palate.

One of our group of 9 ordered for us all. Dishes were served family style on a lazy susan (is that PC?) and the food just kept coming. Excellent food and friendly service. Reasonable price at the end of the evening.

We spotted Jin River after another mediocre meal at another nearby restaurant. We were happily surprised by the unusual items on the menu. Service was exquisite, as was the food. While this was our first, it will certainly not be our last. Be aware, the...'medium' is really rather 'hot' according to American tastes. However, if you wish a dish to be mild, don't worry: they will prepare it the way that you like it.More

I’ve tried food in a lot of Chinese restaurants in DC, so far this one is my favourite. Dan Dan noodles are an amazing spicy dish, dumplings usually better than anywhere else, duck and lotus salad are my favourite here.

Folks who enjoy spicy Sichuan dishes will not go wrong paying a visit to the Sichuan Jin River Restaurant located in 410 Hungerford Drive, Rockville. We're happy to report that the 2 appetizers and the 2 dishes we ordered were all quite tasty, and we...were impressed with the portion size. The Scallion Pancake was crispy and the cold Spicy Bean Jelly Salad lived up to their "appetizer" billing. The Sichuan Bean Curd was one of the most delicious we have ordered in area restaurants. The only thing is the limited number of vegetarian offerings in the menu; granted, we can always specify "no meat" when ordering, which we did with our bean curd dish, but it would be nice to have more truly vegetarian dishes from which to choose. When we walked into this restaurant yesterday, we couldn’t be more delighted with the reception from the friendly hostess who apologized profusely that she could not offer us their usual lunch specials because it was Chinese New Year’s Eve. Every host/receptionist should take a lesson from this welcoming lady.More

Stopped by for weekday lunch. Ordered off the regular menu, not the lunch specials. There was a decent crowd, but no need to wait for a table. Scallion pancakes: didn't taste fresh Hot Fresh Pepper with Flounder in Black Bean Sauce: very good, with a...good kick. Fish tasted fresh. Stir Fried Minced Chicken with "ya-cai": tasted kind of dry. Stir Fried String Beans with "ya-cai": good A good lunch spot if you're in the area, but not a place I'd go out of my way to visit. It is a bit hard to locate, especially with all the construction around it.More

Went for a huge family gathering and went to Sichuan Jin River. Parking is free outside the place but they are building a new complex next to it so there are a lot of construction trucks. The food is quite good and tasty! Try the...XLB(soup dumpling) and also they their seafood dishes!More

The food IS very good, the service is fast, the pricing is reasonable, the portions are large. The ambiance is - - - ok. This location is not visible from Hungerford Drive, as it is part of an old retail complex with some businesses (like...this one) on tjhe back side of the building. New construction (retail & residential) is going in behind, and there are parking lots available in the back. Hopefully this VG restaurant will survive until all the new development is finished. As for now - yes, go and try it. There are lots of regular dishes, and a whole bunch of more traditional and exotic ones to try.More

My family frequents here often and Sichuan Jin River is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Rockville. The restaurant specializes in hot and tasty Sichuan dishes where the portions and generous and the prices are very reasonable. Our family loves ordering the Sliced Beef...& Vegetables in Fiery Soup and Hot Fresh Pepper with Flounder in Black Bean Sauce - both are a must try if you love spicy food. I now live in New York and still have not found a restaurant in the city that serves as good of the spicy beef and flounder dishes as Sichuan Jin River! They also have great watercress, beef, tendon, tripe in spicy sauce, Chicken vegetables and buns dish, and spicy wontons. Everything I've had here is delicious! Portions are plenty - and we always have leftovers to bring home. Delicious and authentic Sichuan food. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough!More
