GOODBYE BROOKLYN'S DELI... I SUPPORT MY LOCAL RESTAURANTS BUT ENOUGH - I WAS DISMISSED, DISGUSTED, DISILLUSIONED…and now DONE. To give you an idea of how long I have patronized this establishment, I have its creator and owner, Guy Brandt, since he worked out at Celebrity...Deli in Rockville, a place I still wax nostalgic about. But when he opened this present location, it didn't take much...I followed him, even if it meant ten extra minutes of commuting. I loved his staff, most of which went with him, and we all loved their latkes and knishes, and what the family, and all the countless kids I've taken there over the years loved most of all: those perfectly crispy, and huge portions of hashed browned potatoes! In other words, I am not a drive-by customer came in off the highway for a pit stop, this is home. What happened to me today at the hands of a man I have never seen there, is inexcusable, unforgivable, and most likely illegal. Today I came in truly hankering for my classic comfort food: A Cohen Club, on tasted rye, extra mayo, and a my Jewish pickles. I came in this very rainy day, concerned that I wouldn't be able to sit at my customary outdoor table, but it looked as if they were not completely full, and tables were spaced according to CDC and county and state Covid-19 guidelines. So I sat down, and was immediately taken care of by two wonderful ladies, both masked and courteous. I myself was wearing a mask, and was seated at a socially-distanced table in the center of the room. I advised the older of the two ladies that I knew what I wanted to order, and the younger came over and took the order. ALL of which I delivered through my mask. All employees on the floor were masked. As I waited, I was taking in the room, remembering innumerable weekends I have spent seated there. I was looking over all the fun old Brooklyn Dodgers memorabilia, the family portraits, the smiles, and at other patrons. From where I sat I faced the kitchen window directly ( a large opening where all meals alight from the cooks’ hands) and I saw a man in the back with his mask completely riding his neck, his entire face exposed over the hot cooktops, and food. His other other cook only had his nose exposed, but also not fully protected and covered. I was concerned about it and I asked for the manager on duty; a very friendly, professional gentleman came, listened, and immediately went to convey the message to the kitchen, as I overheard him say to them, “put on your masks” which they did. However, the main cook, seemed to think I deserved being stared down for having told the manager. He GLARED at me as I took my first bite of my sandwich, staring at me unflinchingly. Feeling totally put off and uncomfortable, I again asked for the manager. This time a different man approached, and I explained that I was being gaped at by the employee who had been redressed for, get this... BREAKING THE LAW. I asked for a to go container, and the so called “manager” said I did not require one, which I mistakenly took it to mean, he would address his employee, and that I should remain and enjoy my meal. I was sadly mistaken, he was inviting me to leave! Apparently, my asking him and his employees to abide by the county and state mandates, made me somehow unworthy of eating my meal in a safe, and controlled environment. If the management team at Brooklyn’s Deli needs someone to help them review the state and county mandates REQUIRED BY LAW to run their food preparation business, I invite them to review the materials here: Do employees need to wear a mask at work in offices and restaurants and shops? LAW CLEARLY STATED AT THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD WEB PAGE: ALL workers in shops and restaurants are required to wear masks when serving customers and when preparing food.I was instead made to feel unwelcome, and the bad actor in this obvious flouting of the law, and an insult to my numerous years fo patronizing this restaurant. I told the manager that I knew the owner, Guy Brandt, his response was, “ I don’t give a @#$ you don’t need a to go container, because you “upset” my staff, and patrons and YOU need to go!” I asked him, “Which patrons are you referring to? The ones whose health you choose to jeopardize because your cooks don't feel mask regulations apply to them? The elderly patrons that have been coming here for years?” I got up indignantly, and left. I will never set foot inside that place again. It isn't half of what it once was. Besides the vile and criminal manner in which I was treated, I have to honestly say, out of the two bites I did get into my FOURTEEN DOLLAR CLUB SANDWICH, the bacon is pre-made and stiff, and the meat of the turkey is far from warm, and hand carved - It is refrigerator COLD. All of this made for a highly undeserved dining experience. And I won't be back. Come late November, December, or January, I am certain, I will not be the one who will be left out in the cold. Your manager will be forced to accept reality, as all of sane, courteous, and civil Europe is doing this very day, shutting down once more, to protect its people. Here, we never got a break, thanks to arrogant, ignorant and ill-mannered masses of those who categorically refuse to accept empirical science, and prefer to be intimidating rather than obliging. I won’t be the one with shuttered doors, and our of work employees who felt above any COVID-19 restrictions. I will be waiting, and it won’t be long, before your doors close, as they rightfully should, if your modus operandi is to shrug off the public good, and the health of your vast senior citizen dining population.More

For many years, this has been the go-to place in the DMV for anyone who wants authentic NY-style deli. Fabulous sandwiches, especially corned beef. Creative, tasty omelets. And so much more, including service, selection, and atmosphere. Even during Covid! If you need catering, they're terrific,...too. The only thing missing - that I DON'T miss: waitstaff with attitude. ;-) But if you want delicious, authentic deli - and more - you shouldn't miss Brookluyn's Deli.More

I used Brooklyn's Deli's online ordering option and paid for the items and was given a specific time to pick up the food. When I went to pick up the food the Deli was CLOSED! The next day I contacted the Manager to request a...refund and the manager informed me that it wasn't their responsibility and I would have to contact the company that they use to take their online orders. After I complained that it was their responsibility the MANAGER HUNG UP ON ME! This is no way to treat a customer.More

Complete menu, good service, and excellent food. I like the chicken soup and Charles' low carb scoopers. The sandwiches are really good; however, the prices are a bit high.

Roast beef with coleslaw and Russian dressing was ordinary and not tasty. The coleslaw was meh. Also, the sandwiches are expensive, like $15 per!

I met a friend for a delightful breakfast and long conversation. We arrived at 8:00am, and within a couple of minutes we were enjoying our first cup of coffee in a booth. The dining room is decorated like a New York Deli restaurant, but the...high ceilings help keep down the noise level. Very pleasant. My friend ordered an omelet with spinach, ham, and mushrooms. I ordered the Bob Milloy Omellete (sauteed onions, sweet peppers, tomatoes & muenster cheese). Both were excellent. Our server kept our cup filled, but otherwise gave us plenty of time to catch up. She was efficient, friendly, and could read her customers perfectly. All in all, it was a great breakfast.More

We needed a place to eat before going to the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center, and we were lucky to find this place. The corned beef sandwich was everything advertised — huge, tender, well flavored — and the fresh rye bread was outstanding. My wife’s...chicken salad on a bagel was also great, and our son enjoyed the blueberry pancake and sausage. Staff was very friendly, and everything was served extremely fast. Would highly recommend.More
