Treated my partner to a dinner out - and drove to La Plata to support a local business. Service was professional and pleasant - a little slow out of the gate, but we understand staffing issues, and we arrived at the tail end of "rush...hour" - about 6:30. Food was served in an orderly manner - I enjoyed the crab dip and Nashville chicken. While the crab dip was pedestrian, the Nashville chicken lived up to its spicy reputation - without being over the top. We also tried the salmon dinner - crunchy skin and moist fish - kudos to the chef. All in all a solid choice. Nice staff, good food, and an environment reflective of southern Maryland charm.More

I had the lip-smacking tender ribs, delicious potato salad, and baked beans for Memorial Day Weekend mean and I was not disappointed. Everything was delicious and I will be returning until I have tried everything on the menu. I had a garden salad previously with...grilled shrimp that was perfect and just enough. The vinegarette dressing was lite with a great summer taste and I don't usually like vinegarette dressing, this dressing was really good. Chef Joe's skills in the kitchen are on point, well seasoned and perfectly cooked food.More

The Charles is right in the revived area of town where the old train station is located. It is supposed to be an old historic area of town but most of things in the area are new due to tornados came to town a few...years ago. Most of the eating places are in the Mall on the highway, The Charles is only "downtown" descent with class that you can enjoy the food and the atmosphere. It is also located across the street from the Train Museum. The attached market is a great addition to to the restaurants. One can go in the market before and after eating. The bar room seems to be the best area if you could request. Staff are wonderful, helpful and good decent food. Worth stop by here for better atmosphere than the Mall.More

That is my third review for The Charles. I Don know why I keep going back. I guess I just really want to like and support this restaurant. Had dinner there and this time I promise it will be my last. The best part of...the experience is the hostess. She is a doll. The bartenders are understaffed and not friendly at all. Kept having to call them over for another drink. Thanks for doing me a favor. We had the ribeye steak and seafood pasta. The seafood pasta was good. The steak was not. It’s a farm to table restaurant with local meats. I have no doubt it was a delicious steak. The part of the steak that was not drowned in bbq sauce was delish. Unfortunately, not much of the steak was edible due to the bbq sauce. Both dishes were way over salted and way too much garlic. And were garlic people. This overload made the veggies inedible. Three strikes I’m out.More

Went on a Friday night. There was no line but waited a long time to get seated but a lot of tables were open for seating. Then they needed to find us a server. Finally got seated and never got served. Left after being seated...with no service after about 20 minutes.More

Went here for our 30th wedding anniversary. Service was slow and after ordering GF labeled items from the menu we found out after asking further questions that they were not actually "Gluten Free". The manager nonchalantly said it's just a little mistake on their menu...so we had no faith in them worth risking my health. I have Ciliacs disease so it would not have been a little issue for me if we had not asked more questions. We left and will not ever be returning. If you have Ciliacs or are gluten intolerant don't eat here, ever!More

Covid situation so we made a reservation to be sure to get a table. Drove by a few hours beforehand and the place was hopping. It was a Thursday night before the 4th of July and we were a 4 top and were seated a...little earlier than expected without issue. Our server Simone took great care of us and help us decide on apps and dinners. Full bar and menu specials available. Started with margaritas.. We then had the crab cakes and brussel sprouts appetizers which were outstanding. Dinner entrees were their classic meatloaf with mashed potatoes, sirloin with mashed and green beans and the chicken palliard. Each were presented well, hot and delicious. So glad we found The Charles and were able to get in. Hope to dine there again when in town. Enjoy!More
