Fun place with great food. Our favorite dining experience along the C&O Canal.
The Margaritas live up to the hype. The truffle fries were great for sharing.
My wife had the Strawberry Spinach Salad with chicken, I was surprised by how hearty that salad was and would have ordered it had I known. I had the hamburger and it was great.
Also, I enjoyed the apple crisp with ice cream. Excellent.
But, the best part was the service. Christina was terrific and made us feel welcome.
Will make this a permanent stop for any future trips down the C&O canal

Very eclectic menu. Meals were well prepared and served by a staff who made first time customers feel welcome. Unique decor as well. Worth a detour from hie highway, if you’re passing by. Worth seeking out if you’re not

A friend and I stopped after reviewing that this was a pet friendly restaurant. That's putting it mildly!!! This is "over the top" for bringing your dog. They even have special meals to order made just for them, then of course a doggy dish of ice cream to top it off. I forgot to mention that a bowl of water was brought out first thing. LOL Our meals were ok for burgers and I had one of the ice cream drinks and that was delicious. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the antiques added to the ambiance. The place has bikes that you can rent or a just walk along the Potomac afterwards is a nice touch to a wonderful afternoon.

We were looking for a place to eat off the highway and did not want fast food for lunch. We came upon BuddyLou's by happenstance and were glad that we did. I must say the owners were very creative with the decor and it is much a local joint. The menu was very eclectic (fried chicken livers @ lunch, fried pork belly sandwhich) but the food serving was generous and the food was very satisfying. If you are going to do the C&O canal path, I would definitely reccomend stopping if not for breakfast or lunch but for the Ice cream and snacks - they bottle their own soda's as well.

We stopped here on the way back from a long way away in West Virginia, hoping to get off of the road for an hour and have a very late lunch. The place is interesting enough but getting to be seated was something else that day. There were plenty of open tables but we had to wait to be seated...so once seated, we ordered a two crab cake platter and salmon with potatoes and three strands of asparagus. These portions were not anywhere near huge, in fact, I looked at mine when I got it, thinking it must be a kid's meal. Anyway, I ate it and it did the job. Hubby ate his crab cakes and liked them. Luckily, we were able to get the bill quickly and leave.

Our family has gone camping in the area several times and it's always a treat to head to Buddylou's on our way back home. Super cute atmosphere, with all kinds of tasteful antiques decorating walls, surfaces, the tables and chairs are all different, the curtains are made of sleeves off of mens' plaid flannel shirts, etc. There's an antique store in the basement and attic, restaurant on main floor with lots of outdoor seating. They have 'pup platters' that serve salmon, rice, veggies, etc. for dogs! A lot of people come off of the canal trail on bikes and stop there to eat.
Our waitress was lovely; we sat in the bar area and she took great care of us (we had several dietary issues to navigate with her help). Everything tasted great, and my fav was the cream of crab soup – delicious!

Drove thru the small town of Hancock without expectations of finding a good place to eat. However, hunger pangs inspired us to stop in at BuddLous in spite of not seeing any other patrons in the area.. It was mid-afternoon so we took a gamble that paid off really well. This unique little restaurant sits beside the entrance to the C&O canal & you can have your choice of dining inside or out. We had an efficient & sweet young waitress & my Strawberry Spinach was wonderful & my husband was well pleased with his burger. I wish we had the time to stay around for dinner!

The hostess forgot to activate our pager after waiting over 45 minutes. The food was fair as some entree's ingredients did not match the menu description. Our waitress was however very good and her service was prompt and courteous.

An interesting place with two small antique shop area above and below the restaurant, the food was good enough, but a little stiff for what you received (15 bucks for burger and small amount of fries).
Still it was good and the wait staff was very attentive.
I enjoyed it, but it is not a cheap meal for the on the go person.

What an amazing place we found thanks to asking a sweet lady at the Sheetz (who happened to work at Buddylou’s just down the street) for a recommendation for a place to eat with outdoor seating that is dog friendly. Cheri, from Sheetz and the best waitress we’ve had, was truly wonderful. She gave us great recommendations…crab fries are a must—phenomenal service and a truly wonderful experience that we would have missed had I not thought to ask for a place to eat. Atmosphere is really cute. They have a lot of outdoor seating to include a deck off the back. They offer puppy plates which kept our dog satisfied (who wouldn’t like salmon with rice and peas??). Please be sure to stop in when passing through town and ask for Cheri!

From Michigan to Virginia for spring break, BuddyLou's was the perfect lunch stop.
Gorgeous weather for eating on the large deck. Immediate greeting by Carol (who later brought a historical and game brochure so we could learn about the area). And our waitress, Hannah could not have been more attentive.
We were able to order carefully as to not have leftovers 😉. Food arrived quickly and everything was excellent!
Split the cherry pulled pork on brioche ( comes with slaw, baked beans and Mac and cheese) and a side of slaw (outstanding!). Brioche bun was toasted perfectly on the grill.
Our son ordered the Mac and cheese appetizer as his meal. Mac was so cheesy and flavorful.
The entire experience was delightful, with seating by the darling garden. It is truly one stop with all meals, cocktails, beer, antique shop, artisan market and desserts. We agreed it was worth a few extra minutes versus a drive through (and our bodies are much happier!).
If you find yourself nearby, stop in.

Note: We actually were there in July 2022 but Trip Advisor won't let you go back that far. Wanted to be honest.
We stopped at Buddylou's on the way through Hancock MD on the way home to Silver Spring from Pittsburgh. Everything in town was kind of closed, including most of Buddylou, but the downstairs/down back was open. there was a food truck that we ate from, and had drinks and respite. We want to go back but I do want to encourage people to stop in.
the antiques section in the basement is darling, the dog-themed decor and decorations are delightful. And the ice cream, my favorite soft serve, was fantastic. The flower pots were all full of happiness, and we enjoyed watching the caretaker water everything in the late afternoon, early evening as the temps started to fall.
Can't speak to the menu options but everything did look great. I was just so happy to be there, out of the car, in a little oasis in Maryland's Waist.
Stop by if you can. And save some time to walk on the C & O canal pathway. Flat, long, stretch your legs, breathe.

We worried about food options on a Monday afternoon as we traveled along Rt 40 from Uniontown, PA to Frederick, MD but we were so pleasantly surprised by this lovely little gem! Excellent service, wonderful outdoor seating, quaint indoor shop and seating and delicious food! Our hostess, Carol, heard us talking about the calamari and said it was wonderful! She was right! But, everything was wonderful. We enjoyed a lovely early fall lunch outdoors before it’s back to work we go tomorrow. We will be back with our whole clan! Thank you, Carol, we really enjoyed your service!

Buddy Lou’s was a breath of fresh air on our bicycle trip from Pittsburgh to DC on the GAP and the C&O towpath. While some say it’s the only restaurant in town, they still made us some delicious burgers and margs. Our waitress Cheri was so friendly and made us feel right at home while waiting for our food. Would certainly recommend!

McKenzie, thank you for the fine service. Biking the C&O towpath, we rolled into Hancock hungry. The guy at the bike shop said we couldn’t go wrong at BuddyLou’s and made a recommendation. We were thrilled to see we couldn’t go wrong after looking at the menu. Hubby had cherry pulled pork which came with side of beans and skillet of mac cheese. I ordered the charred bologna with roasted pineapples, came with side of fries. We also thought it was a good idea to start with tomato basil soup made in house. ALL of it was wonderful. We figured out a way to take the left overs on the bikes. They kindly split up everything when we said we were sharing! So note photo, that was two orders!
