I was attracted to Cactus Silvestre after reading their online menu and seeing Sopas. Having never heard of these before, I was intrigued. I learned that these small corn "Tortilla bowls" could be filled with a variety of delicious items, so I got one each of shrimp, chicken and pork. Very much enjoyed. Parking is convenient at the municipal lot next door. The staff were friendly and cheerful in explaining the menu choices and upcoming events like Taco Tuesdays. Already looking forward to another visit.

My wife and I have been eating here regularly (carry out and eat-in) for the past year or so. I would eat there every week, but we've got to vary a little. :-) The atmosphere is great. The family that runs it is a hard-working, friendly bunch of people with good hearts. We support the restaurant as a great local option for great food. Our favorites are the Chicken Fajitas and the Veggie Burrito. And I'm stopping by on the way home tonight.

First of all we have only had delivery. Our food over the past few months has been very good. My favorite item is the Rotisserie chicken tacos. My colleagues had various offerings from quesadillas, burritos and tacos. We do sometimes run into the problem of no Rotisserie chicken for days? Go figure, but I would surely recommend the Nachos. Never been to the actual restaurant though and not sure I will.

We ordered 2 chimichangas, one shrimp and one chicken along with a side of chips and queso. There were way too many chips for the amount of queso but the queso tasted good. The chimis were good but a little drier than I'm used to. The other places I've had chimis either put a sauce on top or the chimi is sitting on top of queso so there is additional moisture. Maybe I should have asked for more lettuce and sour cream. Before we left I went into the restroom but turned around and came back out after I had to step on a roach. I would have given them an average rating if I hadn't seen the roach.

The good side first. I placed an order for delivery. Order came extremely fast. Ordered half of chicken combo which was nice, tender and flavorful. Fajita was tender and flavorful. Sides of fries and rice was average. Plantain was sweet and delicious. The next week, I took advantage of taco tuesdays. The tacos were $1.25 each and they tasted like it. I ordered 7 hard and 3 soft. The meat was dry and unflavorful. None of my children liked them or my adult daughter. Eating them was a push. Sour cream was a dollar extra (way too much). Never again for taco tuesday.

When we pulled up to eat here, I was not expecting much. The menu reminded me of a touristy Cancun style hole-in-the-wall with lots of pictures of food in the plate glass front. Being from Texas, I expect a lot from Tex-Mex so I went in expecting to be let down...boy could it not be a different story! The actual restaurant felt like you were eating at a roadside café somewhere on the Federal 307 by Tulum. Plastic tablecloths, little plastic flowers on the tables. Order at the counter then they bring to the table. My friend ordered a half chicken with a few sides & I ordered chicken enchiladas with an extra side of fried plantains & a side salad. YUM!!! The food taste was amazing, ingredients were fresh, my chicken was all white meat (if it were Mexico there would have been more dark in there but not in Texas so there's the Tex-Mex!). Also true to a Mexicafe, no fountain drinks. Everything sold is in bottles or cans. Less than $3 for a huge pile of plantains that were delicious. I'm drooling thinking about them now! And the menu was pretty large-lots of offerings to match the tastes of everyone in the family. The bathroom was the only weird thing-I went to wash my hands before I ate & it was a cigarette smokefest in there even with a non-smoking sign on the wall which was a funny ironic picture! I thought this place was great, my friend (who is an executive chef) also approved of his food. We would definitely go back.

Love the food, the prices, and the owner. Young female manager however, needs to be forced to sit down and watch a few episodes of "Restaurant Impossible", or "Kitchen Nightmares", or "Restaurant Undercover"......... 'cause she THINKS she is God's Gift To Restaurant Managers, but she doesn't have a clue about customer service.

We moved into the neighborhood and grabbed a take-out lunch here to eat on our porch while waiting for the moving truck to arrive. We loved it so much that we insisted on feeding dinner to the movers and handed them the Cactus Silvestre menu. I see many more take-out orders in our future.

Now called Cactus Silvestre Tex Mex (same location). This place is really busy now because word has gotten around how delicious their mexican food is even though they don't advertise much. They have very reasonable prices and some great specials. The food tastes fresh and healthy, much more like a Chipolte rather than a Taco Bell. We always do carryout, but they do have a small sit down area the UMBC students like. The also have a friendly guy that seems to be the owner.
