If you love adventurous Chinese eating, trying new dishes, flavors, preparations, this restaurant is a MUST go!! Its cuisine is all northwest and is fantastic. I go all over for exiting Chinese cooking and this place rocked my boat. It’s super fun to order tapas...style and try lots of dishes. Must tries: The black vinegar peanuts (trust me!) The lamb mo (like a bun) Hot seared noodles with pork The red oil sesame dumplings are good but not a standout. This is a tiny place, nothing fancy, but so worth your visit!More

I had not found many good Chinese restaurants nearby and had just about given up until this place came along. The knife cut noodles are amazing. My only complaint as a vegetarian is that they don't have many veggies in their meatless offerings. But the...noodles...!!!More

Outstanding and seemingly authentic Chinese food! We started w Cumin Lamb Homemade Bread/Rou Jia Mo. the lamb was simply delicious, loved this dish. The Black Vinegar Peanuts were good not great. Tough to finish many w just chopsticks… Then we split the Red Oil Sesame...Dumplings, these were outstanding! Finally I had the Oil Seared Knife Cut Noodles w tomato and egg. Very good! Will try it w minced pork next time, that looked good as well! My brother had the Spicy Beef Knife Cut Noodle soup which was mildly spicy and totally delicious. Excellent meal! Service was friendly and fast. Small place, maybe 10 or 11 tables. I would try to arrive before or after the 12 noon rush.More

Some Chinese friends of ours found this place after hearing it was very authentic for the region in China, and we were all not disappointed. Everything we ordered was very delicious. Many things are quite spicy, but I was able to also find some thing...non-spicy on the menu. I would return!More

It was nice to see more variety in dining experiences along Route 1, the main drag in College Park, home base of the University of Maryland, aside from the typical fast food joints that dot It. This particular Chinese restaurant's cuisine is based on the...northwest region of China. It is spicier, involving the use of cumin especially. I wasn't that impressed with the cuisine. Had the cold noodle salad called liang pi cold skin noodles on the menu. It is supposedly the most popular item on the menu. Thought it was so-so. Also had two skewers: the cumin lamb skewer and the fish skewer. The lamb one was dry and tough, and the fish skewer was on the bland side. The service was excellent, however. The young man who served me was knowledgeable, helpful, and accommodating.More

People often don't realize "Chinese food" is like "European food"--it's a vast, varied place with many different cuisines. Shaanxi food is one dear to my heart, after a short and lovely trip to Xian in college. The food here is mostly right, especially the skewers...and the noodles. Highly recommend it. Wish they had Lamb Pao Mo, but nothing can be perfect.More

I did not know what to expect but the signs were good: menu mainly in Chinese and a large Asian clientele. The menu is more pictures than words and they give you a felt-tip pen to mark it up with your choice(s). Some of the...food people were being served looked excellent. I ordered 2 dishes: fish skewers and a noodle dish. The fish skewers consisted of 4 pieces of fish coated with a cumin rub - a spice I associate with India more than China. They were OK. The noodle dish, however, was appalling ... it was more like a Spaghetti Arrabiata served in a low-quality Italian restaurant and left a serious film of orange grease all over the plate. Not good.More

We ordered take out for six people. Very tasty and creatively spiced noodle dishes. Not ideal for anyone suffering from peanut allergies since they can’t guarantee that the non peanut dishes don’t have traces of peanuts.

You know the kind of Chinese restaurant where most of the tables are filled by Chinese? This is one of those. Place your order by marking a laminated copy of the menu and wait patiently for deliciousness. Service is slow, there's no alcohol, and yet...we had no complaints. The "lamb burger," cumin-spiced sliced lamb in a pocket, was yummy. The hot oil seared noodles benefited from the addition of a mountain of minced pork for an extra $1.50. So much food--we had enough for lunch another day. We also tried the black vinegar peanuts, and brought most of them home to snack on.More

If you look at my other reviews, you know I don't give many 5 star ratings. This place was amazing. Don't be put off by the simple dining room. The food is great and totally different than any Chinese food I've had before. It's mostly...based on noodles- there are soups, cold dishes, and pancakes. It's medium spicy. Servings were large and prices were very reasonable. Try it before everyone else discovers it.More

Dumplings in broth tasted exactly like street food in Xi'an some years ago. Don't miss the spicy peanuts in vinegar.

Northwest Chinese Food has become one of the most exciting discoveries for me on this gastronomic journey. Partly it is because this is newfound territory, and also because this regional food is exciting and downright delicious. This excitement was found in the flavors in nearly...all the dishes especially the peanut dish, shredded potato salad, the lamb burger, and both beef soup and sesame sauce noodle dishes. In addition, the wheat and the rice noodles that I savored had a texture that I have never tasted in other Chinese establishments due to their hand-made quality and perfect cooking treatment. Yes, the place is small and quite crowded on certain days, and I was even scolded by a waitress for holding a table while I waited for my party – typically Chinese. But with food this exciting and quite mind-blowing, such inconveniences can be tolerated or even overlooked. This is definitely my latest gastronomic find, and it quickly ranks high on my personal list.More

Don't expect typical Chinese food. Cuisine from Northwest China has different flavors and spices, is noodle-y and not rice-based. We were looking for something interesting and unusual and found it here. Eat in or take out, small artsy place, seats approx. 20-24, students in groups,...families or couples. We shared several dishes, liked them all! Try the sour soup dumplings, black vinegar peanuts and burgers. Several types of noodle dishes are available, ask the staff for a recommendation. Prepare to share!More
