Chercher is a small, family style Ethiopian restaurant. It has all the usual Ethiopian dishes. It is about average, but the service is quite nice and the decor is appealing for such a small restaurant. I said I didn't want it too spicy, and they...made it not spicy enough, so be forewarned. Prices are very reasonable, especially for Bethesda. Even though it's a small space, it is not noisy. I recommend it.More

We frequent Ethiopian restaurants and find the quality of food & service at Cher Cher continue to decline. We specifically requested Gored Gored be cooked medium well, but it came raw covered with seasoning. It was impossible to eat raw meat so we took it...home & refried it for brunch next day. Instead of typically serving in a round tray lined with injera, our food (2 mains) came in an oval plate with a small salad greens without the usual veggie sides of red & yellow lentils, cabbage & kale .. so disappointing! Service was slow with only 2 waitresses trying to keep up with many tables, tending bar & also handling carry out orders. While Cher Cher is convenient in Bethesda, there are many other Ethiopian restaurants in Georgia Ave, SS and in Adams Morgan. Alexandria & Arlington also has options. Cher Cher gotta improve to stay in business.More

Quaint setting, friendly atmosphere and staff but the standout is the food. The kitchen is a tad slow but trust me, it’s worth the wait, all the meats and stews are succulent and delicious. Even if you are with strangers, let them serve the food...traditionally and share. Combo plates are a good idea. They even have Ethiopian beers which are lite and crisp. Plan a little extra time for this meal but you won’t be sorry. The food also holds up to take out and a lot of TO containers we’re going out while we sat there. The only challenge at Chercher is parkingMore

Whenever I fly out to the East Coast, I make it a point to dine at Chercher, either their Bethesda or DC location. The Bethesda location is less crowded and reservations are easy to be made and scheduled. In addition, there is ample street parking....Ordered the lentil sambosa, vegan and meat sampler, Chercher house special tibs, avocado and tomato salad, geba weta tibs, and some Ethiopian beer and red wine. Berbere spices were offered for additional heat and spice. Every menu item ordered was absolutely delicious and service was exceptional!More

This was our first time at an Ethiopian restaurant and it was a great experience. The owner was very personable and explained to us about the food. She was extremely warm and kind and made it a great experience for our 5 boys as well....And, of course, the food was delicious! We tried many dishes. Highly recommended!More

Every so often I get this unexplainable appetite for the undefined. Undefined because I only know what I do not want , yet the urge is rather specific and urgent. Well it happed again and I mentally flipped through the possible offering and inventory of...past food items that have worked in the past , but nothing worked. Since I was in Bethesda , I decided to visit a nice little restaurant that I could vaguely remember , that was located across the street from Euro Motors, and I would hopefully surprise myself. Yes , a surprise it was. Gone is the spot that I was trying to remember , but in its place is this glorious Ethiopian restaurant. Wow, I did not even need to see the menu. It was Lamb Tibs that I was craving. And ..my.., what Tibs the concoct at this establishment . Just the best ever, for me.The juicy lamb pieces are soaked in this generous viscous spicy sauce of amazing yumminess. The onions and peppers are well cooked and well integrated into the sauce and only serve to complement and do not stick out visually or from the taste perspective. The injera is fresh and the dish is counter weighted by a fresh Ethiopian salad. I really thanked Lidya and the team profusely for making my tummy’s dream come true. The fish really hit the spot beyond my wildest imagination. I am so happy I found this spot , I will be back. They feature a great wine selection , liquor and espresso station. Try the Ethiopian beer selection too.More

What an incredible meal! The service was perfect and the vegan sampler was amazing. So nice that their menu is so specific for those that are vegan! Bravo! We drove from Germantown and will definitely make the trek again since there is nothing like this...experience by us. We are all still dreaming of those flavors from the food- absolutely addicting- especially their injera!More

We had noticed Chercher driving home from the more busy block of Bethesda Ave a couple of months ago, and decided to give it a try last night--and were so glad that we did! The food was absolutely delicious, and we are a family that...had many many years of experience eating Ethiopian food, including through travels to Ethiopia. There were three of us, and we had the beef awaze tips, the lamb tibs, the chicken doro wat, and two vegetable sides--the gomen greens and red lentils. Everything was amazingly flavorful, well seasoned, and well prepared. The mains were generously portioned so that despite our filling ourselves to the gills, we still had left overs. The service was also excellent. Our request to taste the chosen wine and beer before ordering graciously dealt with and small tastings brought to us cute little glasses. The food came within a reasonable time, and the servers were attentive. Highly highly recommended!More

Had a really good meal at Chercher. Really good, authentic Ethiopian food, very good portions. The large vegan and meat sampler ($45) plus a salad was easily enough to feed five people. Excellent service, we wouldn't hesitate to return.

We had an amazing visit at Chercher. We ordered the vegan platter for two, delicious curries and literally every single one tasted amazing. Servers were very friendly, and although it was pretty busy we got the food very quickly. But for the same reason we...had to sit downstairs, the nicer upstairs seating was full. All in all an extremely enjoyable experience I would definitely consider doing again!More

I usually dine Chercher at the DC Michelin star location, but decided to try the new location in Bethesda. Happy to review that this location is great! Great service, great food and plentiful parking! We ordered the Ethiopian beer - Habesha, Ethiopian red wine, vegan...deluxe combo, rib and special chercher tibs, avocado salad and original and gluten-free injera! This will be my choice for Chercher restaurant location from now on!More

Stopped in for lunch and tried the vegan sampler. Everything was very tasty. Only five stars because the price point is a little high (they have the same menu for lunch and dinner). Lucy’s on Cordell and places in Silver Spring are also tasty and...have better prices for lunch. I would definitely return to try some meat dishes. The portions are a good size and great for sharing.More

Hard to find small cozy place in Bethesda offering great food. Our party of 4 consisted of two kids and two adults (one vegetarian and one meat lover). We all ended up happy which is a big task for any establishment. Price was also reasonable...for Bethesda.More
