Great little sandwich shop in downtown Bel Air, Md

Want a great bowl of cream of crab soup and a yummy crab melt sandwich? Look no further than the Vagabond Sandwich Company in downtown Bel Air. With close to 50 sandwiches on the menu and 3 soups daily, you can’t go wrong. Sandwiches come with fresh, store made chips or a small wild greens salad. Choices include several different “egg sammies”, a Cubano, the rockfish po’ boy, a mushroom cheese steak , or the 3 little piggies (with 3 kinds of pork to get your ‘cue on). Portions are very generous. And if you don’t see a sandwich on the menu that floats your boat, you can opt for the “build your own” option.

Delicious scallop sliders

Vagabond Sandwich Company has a varied menu of sandwiches, melts, salads, burgers, and more. I had initially planned to try the Three Little Pigs pork sandwich, but as I approached the counter to order. I looked up and saw a sign for Slippery Scallop Sliders. I can't resist scallops and loved these mini sandwiches. The three sliders had artfully arranged seared driver scallops on brioche slider buns with letuce, tomato, bacon, and a tasty Sriracha aioli The side if home made fries was good. I also ordered the V.B.L.T. salad with greens, tomato, avocado, bacon, shredded cheddar, house croutons, and a Clchipotle ranch dressing. Freshly made iced tea was available. This was a most enjoyable lunch.

Worth a stop!

We stopped in one evening and this place is so cute. The tater tots are awesome. I had the hot ham and cheese sandwich, which was really good. My hubs had a turkey and cheese and he liked it. The kids enjoyed their meals, too. The staff was friendly and helpful. We will def be going back.

Not so good

This was our first time here. Immediately when you walked in it felt warm. Fans were on, but I’m not sure the air conditioner was. The staff was absolutely wonderful, but the two dishes we picked were not that great. My husband and I picked the chicken and crab dip wrap and the steak and crab dip sandwich. I’m not sure if they use real crab meat. You couldn’t really taste it. The chicken tasted like it was from a can/puréed. The steak was tough and the bread was ok. The sweet potatoe fries were ok and the onion rings had no flavor. They gave you a dipping sauce with them and I didn’t really care for it. It didn’t seem like a good combo. Overall, I wouldn’t go back.

Howdy, and thanks for reaching out. Sorry you didn't care for it! Our air is on, in fact we have 3 units, but with an internal kitchen, the 2 outside doors being opened constantly, and the temperatures in the 90s, they can't keep up. One of the downfalls of being in an old building. As for the food, our bread comes from Cunninghams Bakery every day, and the beef and chicken are from local purveyors also delivered daily. We have no storage, so everything comes in daily, and gets served . Honestly, I'm not sure what was off with your visit as the items you described are some of the most loved here. In fact, we often get comments stating that the onion rings have too much seasoning. No matter, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, and I hope it was just a miss on our part!

What to say? Very pleasant staff. Delicious food. Overstuffed sandwiches. Loved all the memorabilia decorating the place. Fast service. Now this might sound odd, for a restaurant review, but I was totally impressed with the cleanliness of the restrooms! Totally spotless, tastefully decorated. It was just like home! Would we come here again? Most definitely!

Top knotch lunch in Bel Air

Unreal how good everything was. The vibe was killer, the menu was killer, the beer selection s killer and the seating arrangements outside are top. I was here with my three kids (8,3,2) my wife and mother. I would highly recommend this spot to locals and visitors alike. IT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.

Vagabond is really consistent in the quality and portions they serve. No matter what we order from Vagabond's it is fresh and good. By far, they provide the most onion rings as a side compared to nearby places.

Howdy, and I'm sorry you feel this way. Ironically, every single item you mentioned is exactly opposite of what the general consensus is for our product. Most feedback indicates that we have high quality, presentation is nothing special, but it is a burger joint, large portions, and creative exciting food. I'm sorry that you feel differently! Vagabond - always a great sandwich

We have been to the Vagabond on several occasions. The sandwiches are always great, large and tasty. The staff is polite, personable and prompt. Tables and dining area was very clean and maintained.

I received a reply to the following review from a 'manager' named Ben.. Who mentioned bread crumbs in a burger for some reason... When I never mentioned a burger AT ALL in my review. The chips I got were cold horrible and soggy. The self righteous attempt by him comes across as pathetic arrogance and instead of trying to ensure quality he depends on untruths to defend a problem instead of fix it... Anyway I stand by my opinion. Happily! Ben thinks his soggy cold chips should be 'double fried'.. They are chips... Never double fry them and don't use peanut or canola to do it. Smh. This illustrates the amateur attitude. Had a chicken pesto sandwich. The pesto didn't taste like pesto at all. The bread roll it came with was flat lifeless and fell apart before I could eat the sandwich. Chicken tasted OK but overall not at all a good experience. But those home made 'chips' were horrible. First of all they are sliced too thick and fried too long. They were cold and chewy and over salted. Disgusting. Another business I_ know that is bigger than this one stopped making their own chips, which were just like these because people hated them. A good move in my opinion. These are bad. I wasn't impressed at all with this and being asked if I want a bag or napkins...uh.. I'm all about conserving for the environment but are bags and napkins not kind of essential for carrying and eating a LUNCH??? SERIOUSLY? Im not a fan and other dishes on tables looked very average at best. A few smiles behind the counter might help too...I felt like they were doing me the favor. No thanks

I'm very sorry that you're so upset. I am Ben, and by no means arrogant, just a hard worker who tries to do right by his customers, the majority of which enjoy what we do. We take criticism well, and use it to change for the better as we grow, however snarky personal comments go largely ignored. We live in a "telephone tough guy" time what with social media now, so we can't be bogged down by the haters, rather focus on quality and service. With regards to the bread crumbs, this was in response to a yelp review you left over a year ago, also ripping us apart. I again tried to correct some misconceptions, one of which was bread crumbs in a burger. This review however has been removed, and replaced with the soggy chips, and bad pesto review. Not sure what happened there, but I want to be clear that I wasn't being "self righteous , pathetic or arrogant"! I appreciate your comments, and will consider them going forward...I just wish you could have been a bit nicer. It's just a sandwich...
