Ate lunch outside with their Summer 2020 menu-Superb!!! The staff is amazing , this was a surprise as it was recommended by a local we met in the street- it was the best meal we had in Maine. My son in law ate 2 lobster rolls. The Haddock fish and chips were also the best in Maine!!

We just arrived at out b&b and were looking for a place to eat. Our host suggested we try this place out and since it was before six we might be able to get into the dining area without reservations. We walked over (there is plenty of parking ) and were able to get a table. The interior was historic but the view outside the window was the harbor going out to the ocean. Need I say more? Our waiter did a wonderful job explaining the specials. I went with the lobster linguini appetizer as my meal and my wife ordered the seafood ravioli which was on the main menu. Several other tables around us went with the lobster special. I can’t comment on the taste but the presentation was spot on. The meals came quickly. My lobster pieces were plentiful and the linguini just right. My first bite was sheer heaven. The slightly salty but juicy sweet lobster pieces were the best I’ve ever had. My wife loved said the lobster and scallops were divine. We saved some room for desert. We asked the waiter her recommendation and without hesitation sold us on the gingerbread pudding with homemade Carmel sauce. Well, I could have had a bowl of that Carmel sauce and would have said that was a fantastic desert. But the gingerbread pudding (more like an extremely moist cake) made my taste buds dance for joy. But don’t take my word for it. They have a table waiting for you.

we had dinner here two nights in a row, it was that good! the food was amazing!!! my husband had the pork and I had fish. both nights the dinner was fabulous. service was good. breakfast left a lot to be desired. they only served scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, cake and blueberry muffins. no bread due to cover??? you can touch a muffin/cake, but you couldn't touch bread? They could have done more for breakfast, but dinner was unbelievable!!!

This was our first experience at the 1673. Overall the service was prompt and courteous. On balance the food was average. I had the broiled scallops, which were tender and served with a bread crumb topping/butter sauce. My wife ordered the roast beet app with grilled shrimp. When it arrived they forgot to add the beets (kind of odd for a beet salad?), eventually the beets arrived. We had a table by the window, the view over the harbor is somewhat limited/distant. The wine list is sufficient with some enjoyable selections, the price is a bit high relative to similar establishments in the area & beyond.

We planned an anniversary dinner at the 1637. When we arrived and went through the hotel and were directed to go through a doorway to the restaurant, where we were told to step back and wait for the hostess in a very directive tone. Our table was not ready and we waited. A complementary glass of champagne was provided. We had a wonderful view from our seat. The server was friendly, but not expert. Our first courses were superb, crab cakes and then a beet, blueberry, and goat cheese salad. However the entrée, chicken stuffed with lobster and Boursin cheese was dry, overcooked, and the taste of the Boursin was missing. The menu is quite traditional fare. It was OK, on the pricy side for quality of service. I am in no hurry to go back.

For the record, I had dinner at this restaurant 2 years ago and it was phenomenal. From the drinks to the service to the food, I loved it so much I convinced my husband to take me there for our anniversary. Sadly, that was a big mistake. I can’t stop apologizing for suggesting we go there. The food was “meh” at best. The service… was like every person had no idea what they were doing. Spilling glasses, bringing our food to another table, luke warm soup. I could go on. We waited for quite a while and then all our food from the drinks to the bread basket to the appetizers to our main entree all came out at us at once. I feel bad for these restaurants being understaffed but I feel worse that we wasted so much money on one of the worst meals we’ve had in years.

They promised us a cake for the birthday event we were having, but they gave it to someone else. So they gave us a gluten free cake that was maybe one of the worst gluten free cakes there is. Essentially bad fudge. The other food was okay. Seriously disappointing. And pricey for the quality of their food.

Our dinners were outside looking out at the harbor and enjoying the ocean view. Even though it was hot we got a comfortable ocean breeze. We spent two evenings enjoying some great seafood dinners and drinks. The staff was amazing to watch bringing dinners and drinks up and down the cliff side lawn and not missing a step. Due to a thunderstorm, we had a delicious lobster roll for lunch inside the upstairs inside dining room. There was very well planned distancing for this also. There was window looking out towards the ocean with the magnificent gardens in view across the street. We meet several area people having birthday celebrations or just stopped in for drinks and view.

The Inn's Thanksgiving buffet was disappointing -- food would have been good were it hot, but almost everything my wife and I had was stone cold, even items newly brought out from the kitchen. Also, the atmosphere was lacking for that price range: no tablecloths; air handling system blowing cold air on a 42-degree day; loud pop music instead of something quiet and appropriate to the occasion over the "muzak." We would not return.

We were visiting York for the weekend and booked this place based on the reviews. After dining here I have no clue if the other reviewers at this same restaurant. Based on the price point we would have expected way better food and nice presentation. We started with two cocktails - one was recommended as the signature cocktail (the swizzle?) and the other was a basic old fashioned. Both were horrible. The cocktail was orange and pineapple juice mixed with rum and the old fashioned was more sugar water and maraschino cherry than anything else. We could barely drink them. My husband got the chefs recommendation which was seared scallops served in a bowl of brown unrecognizable slop. The scallops were barely seared and tasted mushy and neither of us could identify what the brown lumpy sauce was. I got the lobster which was served with two sides. I chose the rice and summer squash which amounted to a plate of plain white rice and a mound of mushy blanched flavorless squash. There was zero attempt at presentation and the slides were just spooned onto a plate. My husband and I were so shocked by the sloppy and tasteless food that it was almost amusing. It would have been a generally funny experience if it were not for the sky high bill!! Finally this isn’t a criticism of the restaurant per se but everyone there was in the 75-80 year old range so perhaps not the best ambience for a younger couple.

Small, nice place to eat. Food was good when it came but there wasn't enough people working to attend to the small number in there. The owner was the chef, waiter and dishwasher. Needed to employ someone else to help out on a Saturday night. I realize covid is taking it's toll.

This was anything but a fine dining experience. Shabby, outdated dining room - quite frankly ugly. We went for an anniversary and let them know ahead of time. We were sat in a dining room that should have been embarrassing to the owners. Our waitress forgot to tell us that they were out of the soup after waiting a half hour for it as an appetizer. The substituted one was undercooked because it was rushed out. Extremely overpriced. Will never recommend or return.

Thanksgiving buffet was just not at all as in times past- even from last year. We were behind crammed in the main tavern/ and sure enough, 50% of our party came home w covid for the first time. We understand it’s not preventable, but cramming parties in so tightly that the thinnest of us couldn’t even get up without asking 2 tables to move for us to make our way to the buffet is a sure sign that the Inn was not following any safety protocols. The choices were lacking , the appetizers non existent, and the pleasant carving station attendees couldn’t make up for the awful and expensive experience. For a $100 a head all-in, you could be a little more Conscious of the crammed situation for the safety of all involved. We won’t be back, after a long tradition of dining here.

Unfortunately the standards at the YHI have declined. Service was friendly, but terribly slow. Our meals were cold and not presented as ordered or presented well. Additionally, we had another table near us whose guest felt that it was okay to sit in shorts (yes, in January in Maine) with his legs in a bent position so that we could all see his crotch. When the hostess and waitress were made aware that it bothered us, we were told “yeah, he does that”. The stuffed haddock was just okay. Probably would have been better if served hot. The burger, which had to be sent back to cook as ordered, was okay. Will absolutely think twice about going back.

Great service and ambiance. We were staying at the hotel, which we really like. I ordered the broiled scallops—was served a huge portion—which were tender but gritty. Sides were a very small serving of green beans and a small serving of slightly cold, extremely salty mashed potatoes. My husband had the pork chop, which he said was tender but somewhat dry. It was served with mushroom gravy, which would have helped the dryness, but it was so salty he couldn’t finish it. For the price, we expected better quality food.
