While not the cheapest breakfast spot pricewise ($55 + tip for 5 of us), the breakfast was excellent! Upon entering the Goldenrod, you are greeted by the sweet shop at the front of the restaurant. They had lots of tasty looking treats and even some knick knacks for purchase. We were seated within a few minutes and our order was taken shortly thereafter. My kids ordered the chocolate chip griddle cakes (pancakes) which were nearly the size of the plate. I finished what they couldn't and I'm so glad I did. They were delicious! My daughter ordered the waffle with strawberry and whipped cream and a side of fresh blueberries. The waffle, like the pancakes, was plate sized and she did a great job eating most of it. She and my husband shared the fresh blueberries. Maine blueberries are the best! My husband and I ordered the eggs, meat (me - bacon, he - ham) and toast platter. It's a very standard breakfast platter and still it tasted better than other restaurants. The orange juice we ordered was fresh squeezed and it was really refreshing! Overall, we were very pleased with the food and the service at the Goldenrod. We were seated quickly, served quickly and had a fantastic meal. I would definitely go back. And quite likely order those chocolate chip griddlecakes.

Goldenrod Restaurant feels like the setting of a children's fairytale. There's a charming candy counter with loads of chocolates and taffy, an old fashioned style counter for dining and a charming dining room with classic decor. The building is lovely, I couldn't resist taking photos of the inside and outside. Although I didn't dine here I did try the famous taffy which I found to be too sticky and too sweet. A visit to Goldenrod Restaurant is a must when in York, Maine. The staff is awesome and the setting a dream come true.

Had a really good lunch with my family today. We all enjoyed our food, the service is really good and they have Excellent Fresh Squeezed Lemonade. Clam chowder was really good and loaded with clam pieces. I had the seafood salad sandwich - tasty but a little small for the price. Great selections of candy and treats also in the store.

Stopped in at Goldenrod to get ice cream while walking around downtown. The selection is very good and the staff is very friendly. My wife got hers on a waffle cone and I had mine in a cup. The coffee Oreo ice cream was smooth and creamy and my wife loved her waffle cone. This place is a staple of York Beach and we recommend this place to all visitors.

Let me just say we didn't eat here. This is purely based on customer experience. I read lots of material before making our trip and this seemed like an absolute must. We planned to have lunch here but ate too big of a breakfast elsewhere and ended up not visiting this establishment until the evening. We went in as a family 2 adults one child age 9. The store was busy with people/customers the restaurant appeared dead but open. I was instantly put off by the cashiers behind the counter. They lacked basic people skills, like communication, staring blankly at the customers and others just simply staring. The environment wasn't at all welcoming. The selection of candies were overrated and can easily be found elsewhere. All you need to see here is the candy being spun, and you can see that best from outside the window on the street.

I gave it 3 stars because the waitress was very nice and the clam chowder was good. But this place needs a serious update the decor looks like someones grandmother decorated it (no offense). Also the ceiling dripped on my leg while I was sitting (not sure what the leak was). We got a hamburger club sandwich which was more bread and lettuce than anything and the tomato made the bread soggy, a tuna sandwich which was bland and the bread tasted old and clam chowder. We all ate the bowl of clam chowder at the table and ditched the rest. Not really our style of dining we are foodies so we probably won't be back.

The Goldenrod has been around since 1896. They're famous for their sea salt taffy and homemade ice cream. I like their old-school ice cream/soda bar, and their restaurant has a real nice ambiance. They also make their own chocolate and fudge and they sell vintage candy, like colored 'dots' and satellite wafers (some of you will remember those). They don't have tons of taffy flavors like some other places do, but the dozen or so that they do have are top quality and delicious. I got a pound box of assorted taffy to bring to family members that I was meeting for dinner, and it was much appreciated.

Clam chowder is still one of the best in the York area. But, a bowl of chowder with a grilled cheese and iced tea was $26. Throw in a tip for the world’s most in a hurry waitress, and it’s $32 with 40 minutes still left on the hour parking meter…bottom line, it’s just not worth it anymore…

On July 3 at 9 am we had the worst breakfast. The food was cold and home fries not cooked. We look forward to our yearly visit for a meal but it was our last one there. The French toast was 2 slices of thin bread that looked lost on the plate. Please know we understand staffing issues but this was just very unprofessional and sad.

Fast, efficient, clean, friendly, great wholesome food. You get seated quickly and they give you the place setting and water. How many places do that anymore? I've had everything here from breakfast, lunch to supper and ice cream at the soda fountain. The Peppermint Stick Frappe is unbelievable. All their ice cream they make themselves, as well as taffy, chocolates and fudge. It's worth a visit just to watch them making taffy. Their cheese omelette is fantastic, blueberry strudel goes great with it. Cream cheese and olive sandwich with potato chips is a great lunch. A family style early supper is good value. The setting can't be beat as it's in the most beautiful town in Maine. The Goldenrod has been around for over 100 years and any trip to York Beach is not complete with a visit there.

We went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the lobster bisque, which was very good, but I was disappointed that it was not served with oyster crackers, just regular crackers. My friend ordered a sandwich and we both enjoyed our meals. Our server was friendly and attentive. We didn't get any taffy, but will next time!

Once again I took my grandsons to the Golden Rod Restaurant in York Beach for ice cream. We weren't disappointed. Our server Jackson was polite, efficient and friendly to my grandsons and my grandsons fell in love with the Checkerberry Ice cream. We are going back again tonight. Fantastic atmosphere, reasonable in price, the place to be if your going to York Beach.

We return every year and are relieved to find that the service, food, and atmosphere are what we fondly remember from when our kids were here in strollers. Especially good clam chowder and lobster rolls. Note that the bathrooms are up a steep, narrow stairway.

We visit here every year and always look forward to it. They have a fun menu that reminds us of childhood. Fountain favorites like homemade lemonade, ice cream soda and banana splits. The lobster roll is delicious! And they have the best soft serve ice cream around - very creamy! Save room for their taffy - peanut butter and maple are our favorites! Don't miss this gem!
