Got there early for cocktails at the bar. Ended up seated over against the far wall so I could people watch. After the amuse, and some fresh bread, we started with the smoked salmon, smoked in-house over applewood with goat and cream cheese spread, red...onions and capers with house made sesame crackers and a salad with smoked duck, sun dried tomatoes and cherries - loved it. He had the fresh local cod, pan seared with a triple citrus beurre, I had the rack of lamb, cocoa rub with a cider mint sauce - not minty at all, which was good. For dessert, creme brule and a pot de creme. You will need reservations ahead of time. They do have indoor and outdoor seating.More

We wanted to like this place. It took at least 15 minutes for us to be acknowledged by our server once we were seated. I ordered the lobster bisque which was terrible. It was watery and it barely had any lobster in it. Our entrees...were mediocre at best. I had the cod and my hubby had the lobster risotto. There seems to be one waitress who was also delivering the food to tables and bussing them. There was a help wanted sign out front and they clearly aren’t able to find any help. Service is very slow and the food wasn’t great. I don’t recommend this restaurant. We won’t be going back.More

High quality food and service. Not large but very nice ambience with a small bar. My wife had a lobster with risotto stuffing, asparagus and roasted potatoes. A little different presentation than she would normally get but she said it was excellent. I never order...chicken out but I just had this desire for chicken that night (fished out). Got the roasted half chicken. Unbelievable, taste and texture was great. Chef explained to us they were fresh from a farm in Jackman, no preservatives. We shared a gingerbread desert. It was also great but I think we were already to stuffed to appreciate it. Staff was friendly, working very hard. Manager's kept on top of things while helping to keep the service timely.More

We went to rhe lighthouse for sunset our first night in Bar Harbor. We were hungry when we were done, but many places were closing. We got to Red Star about 15 minutes before closing and they were so friendly and happy to accommodate us....The service was friendly, warm and professional. The food was outstanding. We heard a table of guests who stated they go every yewr for their anniversaryand a few others who seemed more like locals. This is a quality place with great variety and fresh food. I definitely recommend!More

It pains me to write this review because I had such high hopes for this place! We had a 6:30 reservation and were greeted by a nice gentleman host outside that walked us to our table. The interior is quaint and charming, kind of like...the rest of Southwest Harbor. Our waitress appeared after a few minutes to take our drink order and also brought a smoked salmon dip with toasted bread to nibble on. It was pretty good, even though I’m not a fan of smoked salmon dip. We started with the mussels which were brought out promptly and were quite good and the broth was delicious. It made us excited for our meals! Then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. We were checked on once. My husband had to go to the bar to request more drinks. 8:20pm, almost two hours after we had been seated, our entrees came out. My husband got the lamb, which was served with carrots and potatoes. I got the half chicken - also served with carrots and potatoes with a cranberry sauce. The lamb was supposed to come with a mint sauce - but there was none on the plate. Presentation was also poor with the lamb lollipops haphazardly thrown on the plate. My husband is not a cook but mentioned he’s cooked better food at home. My chicken was over cooked and dry with no seasoning and the skin was burnt. The carrots were cut longways but were uneven in size and had no seasoning at all. The best thing on my plate was the fingerling potatoes, which sadly, I had only received two halves (equaling one little fingerling potato) which left me sad and disappointed. The cranberry sauce was quite acidic but I used it anyways to add moisture to my chicken. These times are so trying for business owners in the service industry. Struggling to find staff along with additional Covid protocol makes running a business so challenging. They did try to make things right for our long wait with a complimentary round of drinks and a scoop of delicious vanilla ice cream at the end of our meal. But unfortunately our experience left us questioning their “fine dining” description and with a very expensive bill for subpar food. There aren’t many fine dining options in Southwest Harbor, but if you’re going to spend that kind of money, you might as well just go to one of the lobster places in the area instead. I sadly cannot recommend Red Sky.More

My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner. We were thankful to get a last minute cancelation reservation! Our cocktails were wonderful but the young food runner spilt my husband's cocktail (a dark berry) and hardly cleaned it up and had a little bit of...an attitude. Our actual server was excellent and very knowledgeable about the menu. I had the scallops and he had the burger. Both very very good. It is more on the expensive side but we really enjoyed our experience (minus the spill). We would go back.More

I've read mixed reviews, so we held our breath. Service was excellent and friendly (Jeannie), the food and wine (K. Goldschmidt Cabernet) really good. Potato leak soup was not as thick as we expected, but tasted really good. My wife had shrimp tacos; I has...seared scallops and both were excellent. Our 16 year old vegetarian had the potato soup (a double potion) as her entree. All were filled by the main courses - no dessert! We'd definitely go back again. Even thought the price was very reasonable. $130 including 3 glasses of wine.More

Having made a reservation 10 days ago before we left home for our week on Mt. Desert Island, I was apprehensive about dropping $$$ after reading some recent TA reviews of Red Sky, but this turned out to be one of the best dinner experiences...we've had in years. Quality and presentation of our appetizer, entrees and dessert was excellent; portions were unexpectedly generous. We shared the polenta/chard/mushroom appetizer; I had the lobster and risotto entre and my wife had seared maple-glazed scallops with citrus slaw. We shared the house signature gingerbread dessert. Everything exceeded expectations. The wait staff was attentive and the pace of service was perfect. This is a white-tablecloth restaurant but the ambiance is comfortably casual. Many of the patrons were "locals", most of whom were dressed in jeans and t-shirts, but we were comfortably dressed up a bit. Tables are spaced and you can actually hold a conversation without yelling at each other. We had a wonderful experience and will add this to our "Must Do" list of Acadia activities.More

Sorry to read recent reviews of poor service, as we had attentive and prompt service along with delicious meals at Red Sky. We sat in their outdoor space which is beautifully designed and spaced for quiet dining. There are plenty of heaters, used if necessary,...and the atmosphere is calm and romantic. Our dishes were excellent, including the risotto with lobster as well as the grey sole. ‘Both fresh and tasty. The featured red wine, a bold Spanish vintage, was exceptional. I’m happy to say that among our dinners on Mt. Desert Island, this one (so far) is the best.More

Two things: first other guests told us that they felt uncomfortable with the staff who were brusque and did not make they feel comfortable, like it was a "favor" that they were allowed in. And they reported the food was just ok. second, we after...having made a reservation a week earlier arrived to our 5:30 reservations. Had to wait several minutes while host chatted on phone. Then, with tables empty, on a day it was pouring rain, and windy and cold, the host begins to take us to eat outside. Even though there were heaters, I can imagine how long the food and we were going to stay warm or dry. When I asked to be accomodated inside, again, tables empty, the host said all he had were bar seats. We refused and left. We will never go again to this high-handed place again. Eat at Sips, two doors down, where the food is terrific and gourmet & they treat people well.More

We had a wonderful experience at Red Sky last year and hoped to repeat it this year. We know that there are staff shortages and supply chain problems, but last night’s experience at Red Sky was notable for the disappointments from start to finish. We...sat with menus for roughly 30 minutes before anyone took our order. The house salad was good, but not remarkable, and the potato leek soup was remarkable only in its mediocrity. It was two hours from the time we sat down until the time that dinner arrived, and when it did, only four of our five meals were delivered. My son’s meal was … forgotten? It was another 10-15 minutes before his food was delivered, and what he was served was not worth $30: a small portion of noodles with a thin cacio e pepe sauce (my 17-year-old son makes it better) with a few steamed spears of asparagus draped over it. No one offered to comp his meal, or make any other accommodation. The other meals were good. The sole and cod were fine, the scallops and duck were very good, but all in all, the food quality was not a match for the price and we were very disappointed in the evening. We will not be returning.More
